So not long ago we got the option to turn health bars on.
In any other game health bars through walls, objects etc would be considered a ESP cheat/hack.
Why did funcom add this feature? Why is it showing through anything.
Back in the days, if you got attacked by 5 players at once, you could get away. Especially when it would been dark in the game.
Now you cant, people will just follow your healthbar.
Why dont we make it like that if you got hit, your health bar stays visible for just like 2-3 seconds.
Comparable with when someone hits you out of health bar render with a gas arrow. Than then person sees your health bar because you took damage.
As a pvper, i think most people would agree that it kinda ruined the pvp aspect in some situations.
Before this feature, we could sneak in to people their bases.
Before this, we could climb up to a ceilings base while raiding it and wait till the enemy jumped out and we could get in through a open door.
Why did Funcom make the decision to add this feature in this kind of way.
Search for āwhat is ESP hackingā any website will basically tell you that the way Funcom invented this feature, would have been a bannable thing on other games.
Yeah, I canāt think of another MMO / PVP game that has health-bars which show through solid structures. Iām trying to remember how Valhymen has itā¦ Hmmmā¦
Also thereās usually some mechanism where the health-bar disappears. In ESO PVP for example your health-bar can be disappeared by crouching. We can see our own teammates through the landscape and solid structures but not enemies.
My guess is that FC codded it in such a way that they canāt change the layer priorities without messing up something else - likely even more drastic.
Iāve noticed that at least some of the coders are not very careful with the changes they make. Like theyāll change something, test it in only one of 20+ obvious possible scenarios, and then throw it out for players to debug. That would be pretty normal actually if they also fixed stuff that players reported in a timely manner but they more often than not donāt. So it could also be something like that. They made the change (gawd know what they were trying to accomplish), tested in only one scenario, briefly, and then handed it to us. Itās been reported about 6 times that Iāve seen and I donāt even work there. So weāre likely stuck with it till 3.0 and even then itās not certain theyāll address it.
Exactly. This feature changed so much in a bad way.
It destroyed content for some youtubers that did ninja raids.
No chance on getting inside a base now without them seeying it, besides if this clan is new and never watched a video about that update.
Im totally fine with seeying my teams healthbar. But the enemy health bar is just nuts.
Not even complained yet about the fact that those stupid āorangeā team health bars 9 out of 10 times appear on the enemies and those āredā enemy health bars apply to my teams health bars.
Iām also kind of wondering if itās not on purpose too tho. I mean, they have made a few other changes in the last 6 to 8 months which force a playstyle of easy raiding and easier off-line raiding. No more fence stacking, banning people for certain types of building technique, etcā¦ Some major change-ups for PVPers. So it could also be that allowing the attackers to have something pretty close to a wall-hack was intentional. Even though defenders get to use it too - as an anti-sneak mechanic? Right? with it like it is now you can set off a bomb or shoot some poison arrows and see about how many thralls and pets youāll need to contend with before you go in.
I think itās a larger issue of how the system works. Effects ignore building and terrain. Light bleed is a thing even if you completely wall it off, poison gas affects you while you think you are safe in your baseā¦and healthbar visibility goes beyond the terrain. For whatever reason, they wanted healthbars visible and the general coding ignores terrain. Me personally, I donāt think any of it should go through wallls and only windows should be able to pass through but that isnāt reality and I doubt it can be fixed simply so it is what it is.
Iām fine with turning the healthbar visibility off but they changed it for a reason so I doubt that it will be turned off.
Seriously, health bar is part of the HUD/GUI, unlike the other things you mentioned. Thereās no good technical reason for why they couldnāt fix it. Iām guessing itās either very low priority (everything else is on fire), or they want it that way. My money would be on the former.
And what reason would that be? Do you know? In five years of playing PVP, PVE, and PVE-C, I do not recall any outcry to have healthbars visible to the world. As soon as they were implemented, I turned them off in my settings.
I HAVE seen them implement things that nobody asked for such as elevators. One of the Devs actually developed them at home, brought the idea to work, and Joel gave it a green light.
The next thing you knew, everyone in PVP was running horizontal elevators to other peoples bases and raiding them. It created quite a disturbance in the force, and they had to remove them and fix that issue quickly.
I guess we are off topic but I just wanted to say: If youāre experiencing lag 90% of the time something is wrong in your specific case. Server too far (high ping), ISP is incompetent, your machine is borked, I dunno, something. Even if itās 10% of the time.
I get lag maybe not even 1% of the time. And that 1% is when the server is full 30~40 players and Iām connecting to a server thatās typically 180 ping already anyway.
Implement a horizontal one that reaches so far that you can basically create a monorail into a dudeās base. āIāll just reach OVER his claim!ā Great idea, bad implementation, wouldāve gotten me fired. But I live in the real world.
Den said he turned them on, took credit, apologized. I believe that was three months ago.
I donāt need to talk about my PC, since I have a i9 9900k + Asus RTX 3090 Rog Strix + 32GB RAM.
THE PROBLEM
As soon as multiple players spam inputs in the same region, and/or raids happening, the ping jumps up to 120-200 or even higher, because the server FPS goes down. THIS is lag for me.
I like horizontal elevators. They work great in Siptah treehouse builds.
You got me. I am assuming there is a reason since it was an active change and they wouldnāt bother with doing it without a reason for it. It could very easily be āthis will be kewlā but that is where management needs to step in and say stop working on stuff that isnāt moving the game forward or a concern of the player base.
Yeah, thatās what kills it for me tooā¦ Get more than about 20 players on a server and things start degrading. At 30, PVP usually isnāt possible. And with 40 people on itās a slideshow of hiccups, lag, and stutters. My solution is just to log off and play on one of the other servers Iām on. Arenāt there any servers in your area which ping at under 100 though? Like, maybe 30 or something?
ā I personally have no issue admitting when I make a mistake Exiles is a complex game with a hugely wide variety of players that all play the game in different ways. We do our best to keep in mind every kind of player when we make changes, but as you guys know we do sometimes fail to predict the outcome of any given change correctly. That being said, when we do make these mistakes weāre always going to do our best to rectify them.
I totally agree. The health bar indicators are not up to snuff in their current implementation. Iām working on a plan to try to address them in a way that keeps everyone happy without fully pulling the option out. I canāt say exactly when that update will happen because we canāt schedule the work until we have the plan, but more than anything I just want you guys to know I hear you I understand the problems the bars have created, and Iām sorry we let you down on this one.ā
The worst thing about health bars and something I actively exploit is that you can edit the range beyond its setting limits.
I see people miles away, if I am on a high up base I could see someone approaching from the bottom, I can track players miles away, this doesnt just kill stealth, to anyone who is even slightly savvy this kills open world pvp.
Once I see your healthcare I know more or less your build, your buffs, everything I need to, I can track you from render range away when you are but a pixel, and get away from you or fight you depending on if I have the advantage or disadvantage.
Other things it does is make t4 thralls super easy to find, I really wish they would stop the healthbars altogether, it has added nothing positive to the game that I have seen.
