Between Exiles Kingdoms or Heirs to King Conan
Your argument is incredibly confusing.
So Siptah only failed due to lack of content and features? Therefore a new map alone is not what people want? Ok?
Siptah was quite popular when it released. I don’t know the metrics but for sure I can say, everyone I knew who played the game, purchased Siptah because we were all eager for new content and a new map. Siptah was both of these things.
The issue is both that the content on Siptah sucks AND the map sucks.
So yes, we want a new map. A map by definition is CONTENT and features are a given. You are portraying a new map as a flat empty square which makes no sense.
I want a new map that is at least similar in design philosophy as the original map. I don’t want a map with a 'battle royale" design philosophy. The world should be interesting and varied.
And paying $30-40 is not a concern for anyone still playing with the new monetization.
This is a dubious and controversial thesis.
Personally, I spent more game time on Siptah than on EL.
The problem here is, people have different opinions on what that philosophy is and how best to execute it. Its also a huge undertaking (we’re how many years in now?). I would guess what fits that mold best would end up being CE2 for Funcom given the amount of work it entails for a polished professional approach. Us amateur mapmakers attempt stabs at this because of course its what people want, but in execution nothing ever pleases everyone (and I dont expect it to). I take a “flood the zone” approach to this because I have the time and don’t have to answer for a business case. For Funcom, its probably a big risk to do a full story driven map like EL that would only be justified if people were buying the whole game again, a la CE2.

Please can we get a new map? - General Discussion / Feedback - Funcom Forums
Wouldn’t mind if the Exiled Lands had the same lighting as the Isle of Siptah.
What I’ve meant since the beginning is just that: simply by being a “new map” does not make in interesting. You said that the Siphah map and its contents suck, right? But it was a new map when it was released. So is that what we want, or is it not what we want? Or was it not a “new map”?
Now we’re at the very crux of the issue I’m trying to raise: people need to tell what kind of new map they want. If Siptah wasn’t good for them, then clearly there is something, content-wise, that makes or breaks a new map beyond just being new.
“Similar in design philosophy as the original” seems… redundant, in my opinion. If it’s just a remake of Exiled Lands, how long would it stay interesting?
I understand the “battle royale” criticism for Siptah, but it has an advantage over the Exiled Lands: it has less parts that become obsolete over time. The Exiled Lands are designed to progress from south to north, so as you advance, the southern parts of the map become useless and you have no reason to visit, except Sinner’s Refuge for some thralls.
Yes, the center area on Siptah is probably kinda unpleasant on official servers. On Single-Player I can build there and not lose my buildings, so the whole map is live for me, rather than just the outer regions. (And yes, it’s great fun during the Maelstrom.)
You don’t really know what you’re talking about. My head hurts just reading what you wrote.
How long would a new map similar in design philosophy stay interesting? Probably for years until they release a map after that. Exiled lands is the more popular map despite being around since the game released. Believe it or not, it could be possible to create a new and interesting map with some minor design tweaks. Use your imagination.
I think you’re a single player Andy, which is fine. And again, no problem with you liking Siptah. It’s just obvious that most people like Exiled Lands, and would like further development of maps in its spirit.
Really? What @Kapoteeni said was fairly clear.
Or perhaps…months? You have absolutely no way of knowing because, frankly, if it’s the same design philosophy as the Exiled Lands, and everyone already has their $h!t in the Exiled Lands, what is the incentive to move to this new map that is basically more of the same?

Have you considered why that is? Lets consider the possibilities then.
If you have 20% of the current players (yes these numbers are made up) who only started playing since Age of Sorcery or so, then they may not have gone out and bought the Isle of Siptah map because they are still exploring the Exiled Lands map which is relatively new to them. So you have a bunch of people who LITERALLY CANNOT PLAY ON SIPTAH because they do not own it.
Then you have, say, 20% of the previous players who were around from around the time of the Isle of SIptah launch but either could not afford it or simply did not want to pay for it and so again, they quite literally cannot play on that map. So maybe you have 40% of the players who cannot actually join that map even if they wanted to.
OK, so maybe those numbers are a little high, but maybe they aren’t. Neither of us know what the actual numbers are. But if you were a private server owner, would you chose to use the Isle of Siptah map (which some of your players may not own) or the Exiled Lands map which quite literally EVERYONE owns.
So yeah, it’s fairly obvious which of the two maps is going to be “more popular”.
Believe it or not, there are modders who have done just that.
IMAGINE THAT!!! New freakin maps already exist out there for you to use. Well, unless you are a console player. But this was put in general so there is no way to know that.
Conan is messed up more than enough as it is and that’s thanks to “players” wanting more, more, more, MORE.
FC is at fault for listening to them.
If this one may interject…
When this one long ago said more like EL than Siptah, this one one explicitly meant the following:
-
More deliberately placed recipes/learnables (esp: specialist cooking) as opposed to RNG gating.
-
A wider variety of NPC factions with more even representation.
-
Dungeons that tie to the Biome they are in/location on the map.
-
A wider diversity of biomes with different survival concerns.
-
More of the map buildable with fewer, and especially fewer arbitrary, no build zones.
-
Resource availability, or at least pervasity being related to Biome.
-
A clear end game for wrapping up if one has had enough, removing the bracelet successfully.
To note, Siptah does many things right, in the way that most of the map is viable for end game level play. Having all Dungeons and such being aimed at max level (or a brutal challenge at lower levels) is good. Vault recipes being extremely good and using a comparatively challenging material that can still be gained from more than just one source is also excellent. Clustering certain high value resources in these danger pockets is also grand. Thrall cages for rescues was magnificat.
But the majority of the buildable map is Craggy Woodlands, varying only in whether it is more rock or tree. The southern expanse teased some diversity, but the real question is whether it is sunny and filled with obsidian wielding giants, or dark and ashy (but with no real lava flows) and filled with the forge where those giant’s gear is made. It just feels somewhat slapdash, which is to be expected as an 11th hour ad on.
However, the official Exiled Lands servers always seem fuller than those of Siptah and for my part I am part of a fairly large group of players which has 4 servers (1 Exiled Land server, 1 Siptah server, 1 Savage World server and a server EL modded for construction). And our Exileds Land server is always on average during the week at 15 or 20 players/40 and on weekends it is very often full while the other 3 servers never exceed 10 players (weekends included)
I think it’s normal to listen to the players…otherwise the game risks not pleasing the players (of course you shouldn’t go to excess and follow all the ideas. But a new map is not not a bad idea when it comes to a survival game)
Id just be happy to see Savage Wilds come to Consoles.
I still cant get it to work on my PC.
Players who judge Siptah by the size of the map shouldn’t have an opinion on more maps.
There is more to a map than the size and it’s biomes.
Have you actually participated in all that Siptah has to offer?
Have you gone to the center of the map during a Maelstrom?
Have you summoned a Tier 4 Surge at a Leyshrine?
Have you summoned 3 skull Bosses at the summoning pools of the Grey Ones?
Have you killed the Headless Judge in New Luxor?
