PLEDGE: Give us a HARD Block limit/ Placement pieces on Official Servers

I’m one of these guys that “violated” ToS. I originally didn’t intend to come here and say anything. I think there is a fine line between being banned, accused of abuse and poor communication from Funcom.

My base had a lot of land claim, my land claim was to counter griefing from legitimate trolls on the server. It took months for funcom to do anything about them. I was on that server for over a year, but was by myself. So it was taking a long time to take down my land claim because the griefer had finally been banned like a month before.

The implication that it’s all abuse is absurd and Funcom needs to address it much further or at least have community mods that join different servers and talk to the community. Or at least like the post suggests and has hard block limits. The only other suggestion are server resets to clear servers.

I’ve been told several times that “YoU sHoUlDn’T hAvE hAd So MuCh LaNd ClAiM”. after discussing what happened w/ players on servers. I’ve put like 1000-1200 hours into the game, and on that server specifically. If my offenses were that serious then it would have been addressed sooner by funcom. I know a lot of good players that got hit. People like me who made discord communities, helped players, etc. The fault also is on Funcom for poor management. And would rather upset their longtime/loyal players I guess. A lot of players being hit in the ban wave aren’t bad people or people intentionally “abusing” land claim. The situation was handled poorly in general.

Edit: Personally it’s a little suspicious that server mergers were announced after the major ban waves. I feel as though the bans are a cop out to make server merges easier. It would have made more sense to just clear servers completely and merge them/reduce them. If it makes more sense to you that someone was banned after 1000 hrs of play time for “land claim abuse”. Yog help you.

It seems we will get a limit guys, Bless! - No! - deep within I would’nt want one, but ofc. - That’s why we have limits. As a guide.

Alright, that’s enough.

This echo chamber of toxicity needs to stop.
There’s some of you that seem to just come to the forums to engage in what is no longer a healthy conversation. No matter the context, no matter the conversation, it always boils down to the same dialogue.

Regarding the topic of buildings in official servers, it is a topic that has been widely discussed.
Ultimately, it’s understandable that the rules set in place in those servers are not to the liking of everyone, but remember once again that official servers are a free service provided to everyone. The game offers a wide array of settings customizable for those who want to create their own rules, their own style of play. But for official servers there is a limit. It may come as arbitrary especially to those affected by moderating action, but we are working towards making those limits more understandable and readable.

Ultimately, there will be rules that will limit the sandbox experience in order to keep the server resources available to other players who wish to join official servers. The same way that private servers, where the majority of our playerbase chooses to play, also have their own set of rules.

The feedback lines are open, and have been open. However some of you have been taking this as a free card for non stop non-constructive and hostile dialogue here in the forums. Towards us, towards other players, and sometimes towards the wind. Proper conversation and valid points are diluted and overtaken with a barrage of attacks and pointing fingers at every single direction.

This is unsustainable and it has to stop. It leads to absolute nowhere."

I know there’s a lot of toxicity, especially from trolls. I don’t even care that my base got wiped personally. But it does rub me the wrong way as someone who is very community minded that I got a ban for “abuse” like it was intentional. I think it’s understandable that people will be upset within reason over this. Blaming the player base has never won a gaming company over.

1000+ hrs, bought pretty much all the dlcs and was excited for Dune to come out. I feel like Funcom just spit on me, as a fan/consumer of their games. And it needs to especially be addressed, or at least an apology and admittance they might have screwed up how they went about it. A lot of people on my server got hit, they were good players and helped each other/new players.

I think server wipes are definitely the way to go without any hard caps.

I put myself in your sabatons and it’s an ugly feeling being accused of that. Plenty of people play the way you described. There’s no stigma from me, or any of my buds. If it weren’t for the fact I’m so outspoken, we would probably have had some Admin action on my server. I do try to get the message out, at risk of being called a carebear.

Speaking of QOL builds, they updated the rules about the walls and villages. I made a thread to discuss those updated rules, so I’ll hope y’all will join me there. And let’s try to keep this one open as long as we can.

I think “community minded” in Conan takes on two completely different meanings!

One meaning is being mindful of others and allowing them as close the same experience as one would have if they were playing in Single Player mode for the 1st time, as is possible of course. The other definition describes folks who think it’s a community service to go around enhancing the entire map - with bridges, map-rooms, stairs up cliff faces, and freeways running all over the place.

I’m not saying anyone is one or the other… Just that we should probably be mindful of the differences as when it comes to building they are at opposite ends of the spectrum - one being bannable and the other being ToS complaint.

I for one DO NOT feel spit on because Funcom is outlawing the former!!! I do however feel a bit let down at recent events where it appeared FC via @Umborls, was going to come in here and get verbose with us about what is and isn’t bannable when considering borderline or “edge” cases - but then kinda fell short (at least to my expectations).

And this NEEDS a higher degree of verbosity because there seems to have been a disconnect. Players actively asked FC to become MUCH more active concerning banning cheaters and removing massive land claims. But what FC did instead was to begin banning people for having 11 lights in their front yard or building three 7-block piers (docks) on the lakeside shores. etc.

11 Lights:

3 Short piers:

And so on. The typical End-Game player amasses considerable wealth and many of us would like to know where the limits are. Typical “community minded” players after a few months (ie. End Of Game Players) build no more than this highlighted base walkthrough (below). Some however build to twice that size and yet others half as much. All these are different from map-wide spam (maprooms, bridges, freeways, etc) and also very different from what players were asking FC to get active about and clean up - thus the disconnect and the need for clarification!

No spit required!!!

Woah, guess i better quit making free mods. I haven’t actively played beyond play testing since May of 2018. In that time I’ve put in well north of 10,000 + real mod dev hours into making my stuff.

But based on your logic, how could i possibly know what to do to create stuff for the literal thousands of people who use my stuff since i dont “play the game.”

This is very gamer based logic, but is not set in reality. If this is REALLY your demand, you should remove literally every game you own from your hard drives, and swear off all future video games. Why? Because the majority, not the minority, of devs who make games dont “play their own game.” Shockingly, few people want to do their job as a hobby too.

And finally, while you demand this, the topic has been covered well and beyond the necessary amount. Funcom devs have stated that some of them indeed play Conan Exiles. They have said it dozens, and dozens of times. Not that it matters in the least.

You need to clarify that.

Apparantly im talking about my server. How can you speak of others where you don’t play.

Noone needs to be away for 6 months to just refresh every sunday for 2 years.

Its selfish, and stupid to be so uptight to the castle you built on official servers.

What they could do is decay those but give u an option for offline storage say 200 slots.

I was once the same hoarder and refresher. Like ive said in other post i think i was the first to be wiped by this new TOS. And frankly i’m glad, start fresh is a wonderful feeling.

And now im here because the server got ping 9999, this should be dealt with with priority btw.

Yeah, that wasn’t clear… But I believe he is talking about verbosity - and maybe even forum thread participation.

As it is now we get some explanation but. Well maybe an example is better than speculation… So randomly poked my finger at the screen listing the announcements, and besides getting 3 more dead pixels and a sore finger this was picked:

Temporary increase in Character Transfer cooldown durations

“To allow anyone left behind to re-join their clan/friends, we have re-enabled character transfers.
However, the cooldown between transfers has been set to 30 days to avoid an issue with repeat transfers.
We aim to return the cooldown to normal values once the issue is fixed.
Thank you for your support and understanding.”

Great, communication, we love it!
Re-enabled transfers? Why were they disabled?
Cooldown is now 30 days? What was it before?
Normal values will resume once “the issue” is fixed? What normal values? What issue? What???
And WHY was this approach chosen over some other?

In other languages this kind of up-front-ness or divulgence is similar to the idea of “honesty” (AKA “full disclosure”).

Fine, for something like my finger-pecked example, it probably doesn’t matter that much (well unless to you it does :stuck_out_tongue: ), but when it’s about rules that can get you banned, well… And they’re doing the same with those. Vagueness may be beneficial for them (weather they play the game or not) but it’s causing too many problems for players - or so it would seem - especially for those being banned.

I’ve said it before (without getting banned) so, I’ll say it again. The guy or guys, writing these have a very “casual” style of writing and it is simply not well suited. Moreso now that people are upset and seeking critical information.

He does like any mod author. Whatever the hell they want to.

You might want to read up on the various roles in software development beforehand, and especially in game development. Unless we’re talking about a 3-man-gamestudio, the normal developer has relatively little say when it comes to the systems to be implemented. The developer is responsible for the HOW and less for the WHAT. The WHAT is defined by other roles. Therefore, it is relatively irrelevant whether the developer plays his game or not. It may help with one or the other question, but it is not essential.
It may also be helpful with the other roles, but even there it is not essential.

then he implements it or not… strange question…
apart from the fact that the mod author defines whether it works as intended or not and not the community

I can answer that, it depends on the request. If he receives a request that is interesting and fits his vision for the mod, he will consider it and get more details if needed. If it is not something that fits, he will say thanks for the suggestion and move on. If it is something he is interested in implementing but lacks the knowledge or skills to do he may seek help from others or gain knowledge on the subject.

If he receives a bug report, he relies on the user to describe as best as they could why they consider this a bug and how to reproduce it. Then we will proceed to attempt to verify it and if we can, he will fix it. If not, we will say sorry dude we can’t reproduce it, please provide more details or a better description how to reproduce it. Mod authors are not free tech support despite many users using them as such.

This is however not easy to be done with the base game due to the amount of suggestions and bug reports received from all platforms.
