Bug Description:

Inventory Glitch | Dregs Post Boss | 2 Skeleton Keys Vanished from Inventory: One I had gotten from the giant lizard mini-boss in the first chamber, the other had been in my inventory for some time. After harvesting the main boss’s corpse, I went to open the chest which required the key and got a ‘you need a key for this’ message. I figured I just needed to equip it, but neither skeleton key was in my inventory. The vat filled back up with acid while I was looking, so I climbed out to look more. I tried waiting and reorganizing my inventory by weight and searching for the word ‘key’ cause maybe I just overlooked them. Nope, both keys gone. So, I logged out and back in and it restarted me at the beginning of the dungeon, but the keys were still gone. I had other things in my inventory from the mini-boss and the main boss, but not the keys. It was the first chest I had gotten to that required a skeleton key so I was really excited! They had just been there when I went to repair my armor & set my quick keys before the battle. I’m not sure if there’s other inventory missing. There have been other less heartbreaking glitches with inventory earlier today while crafting. At the time, it didn’t seem worth reporting. I gathered a bunch of desert berries from right in front of my camp but when I went to go dry them, they weren’t in my inventory immediately after gathering them. When I gathered more, the number of available seeds in the parenthesis that pops up as available was several dozen (I think maybe even a couple hundred) but my inventory only showed a couple. Not even the 15 I needed to make 3 feasts. I appreciate you reading my complaint. I’m sure it gets really exhausting reading angry messages so thank you for the work you do! I hope you have a great week and something cool happens for you!

Bug Reproduction:

I don’t think I did anything to cause it. I don’t play with the mods or anything. I’m fairly new to the game but have gone pretty hard for the past week or so.

I hopped back on the game booted into the dungeon, left, died, and spawned back at the basecamp. It says my followers are still “Following” (not “Guarding”) and they are in the dungeon on the map. I dunno if they’ll respawn at the basecamp after a bit, but it seems wonky.

Greetings @ScrappyLipstick ,

Is it possible to share the save files where you had the keys and the one after you lost the keys?

Did you open any other chests in that boss room before you came to the one that told you ‘you need a skeleton key’? When you have the required key, it doesn’t tell you, it just uses it automatically, so you only get the message when you’ve run out. (If you have a couple of new legendary weapons in your inventory, then you ‘spent’ the keys. If you didn’t open any chests/haven’t received any new weapons then that does sound like a bug.

The follower situation sounds a bit odd as well - they should have switched to ‘Scouting’ when you died. They would then (after a bit of time) switch to ‘Returning Home’ and eventually show up at whatever spot you last placed them (or told them to ‘Stand Guard’). Hopefully they will just show up in due course, but it does sound strange.

It might be worth Verifying your game files via Steam, just to be sure.

Edit: Or just follow directions from ZahMaiatt - guess they were typing at the same time I was, lol.

I opened one, but not both. Do the chests use more than 1 key? I’m not really sure how to share the save files.

My followers are still stuck as following. I’ve died several times and reloaded. I also played for a few hours and I may just need to try to retrieve them but I’m not sure they’re in the boss room because they weren’t when I loaded back in. Thanks for the help!

I went in and verified the integrity, and it said 2 files failed to validate. After it said it would require them, I loaded back in. Followers are still stuck so I went to verify again just to see if maybe they hadn’t downloaded well or something, and it didn’t give me another failure notification.

As for the keys, it’s definitely possible I used them (which I feel a lot better about lol). Is there a way to know which chests will use a key that I just completely missed? Also, is there a way to load a prior save? If I can load the save just after the boss died then that would be awesome. I’d like to be a little more intentional about which chests I open and get my followers back.

The chests do look a bit different from general loot chests - all of the ones under the acid should be skeleton key chests if memory serves, so there would be nothing to distinguish between them (and, as far as I know, they all draw from the same loot table, so opening any of them should make the same difference).

You can indeed switch to an earlier save point (one of the advantages of being on PC) -
the default save folder should be c:/Program Files(x86)/Steam/steamapps/common/Conan Exiles/ConanSandbox/Saved (I wound up having to type that manually, so you may have to follow it manually  ). In that folder you should find ‘game.db’ - that’ll be your latest save - and should also find a series of ‘game_backup_x’ files. Hopefully there should be one with a timestamp somewhere around the point you died. (I’d recommend backing up a whole group of the files initially - copy to a desktop folder or wherever - just so you’ve got the ability to go back to whichever of them you choose - that way you can home in closer to the exact time you want and get the last save before you died. Then rename whichever file you want to try as ‘game.db’ and you should be set to go.)

OMG thank you so much! I found the backup files and an earlier one to try and load but didn’t know how to actually implement one. I also looked through the logs. When it comes to programming languages, I know enough to read it (at least a bit) but don’t really trust myself to write it without guidance.

Thank you so much for teaching me how to do that! You have no idea! My followers are here! I have the keys! I’ll run back through the dungeon. That’s AMAZING! :raised_hands: :heartpulse:

That’s great  I’m glad it worked out.
