Some bugs/issues I came across while testing this:

Thrall placement in doorways: Half the time I’ll click a thrall to place it down and it doesn’t work, nor give any indication that it’s not working. I also noticed that the door guard spot will highlight when my placement of that thrall is nowhere near it, causing confusion.

Rescued caged thralls from the purge: I will free them, and get the message “You don’t have permission to interact with this.” when I try to interact with them.

Getting stuck: Lots of thralls, both enemies and friendly seem to get stuck in the foundations, walls, or stairways when they are being attacked. This usually happens when there are big clusters of thralls fighting near walls.

Archers on 1-high foundations: I have archers posted 1 foundation higher than the doorway. When enemies get near them, they switch to their sword and lunge-attack off their platform into the purge sword-blender. Archer smoothies do not taste good.

(I realize this post is probably better suited in this official thread).

With how finicky the purge system has always been, I’m concerned about a LOT of areas that will suffer from not being reachable. It’s not really a coincidence that the stream build was built where it was.

  • Jungle: lots of passes and narrow spaces, not a lot of flat area for a FOB
  • Tundra: rolling hills everywhere, few flat spaces
  • Highlands: seems okay but having had my base there, I have doubts
  • Volcano: not a chance
  • Noob River: maybe

Basically, build desert base or build fake desert purge trap. But maybe I’ll be pleasantly surprised.

I’m concerned about the ability to shift attacks once started. Not for the player, but in regards to NPCs. They already don’t have attack commitment so mace wielders spin mid-attack if you dodge behind them as they swing. Dennis specifically said they’d be better able to target you now so, um, yeah. That’ll be interesting.

Also, this might be me but I’m a little disappointed in the way they chose to implement Esoteric Library changes. Not getting duplicates is great, but the predetermined order is disappointing. It means you get things when they decided so if tablet of power is seen as most desirable (or bindings of the dead or what have you) you get it last, regardless. Everyone else on the server gets it in the same order too so you can’t even trade for the page or finished product unless someone else has already made it through the whole list. I’d prefer it to be somewhat random, just taking into account what you already know to remove duplicates and still have some variety in the order.

There didn’t seem to be any catapults in the video. They won’t? Only rams in the hands of attackers?

As one who plays PvP solo…
The loss of the bubble will hurt.
Hurt this one’s enemies quite a bit.

Mind you, there will also be fewer altars, which means this one doesn’t get the pleasure of erasing a base with an avatar from it’s own altar as often.

Seems like they will find a way. The jungle FOB was pretty far away, and the volcano FOB was…well…it was there.

Soooo devious PVP thing. Can I make a coffer with the intent of call the purge and have an enemy base in between the forward base and the coffer?

The Stream looked good.

The content in the BP and bazaar is definitely enticing.

I’m not sure if the purge is going to do much for me but I wasn’t a big purge guy anyways. They definitely run faster so the amount of damage the palisades do may be reduced.

All in all, with the chapter 1, it’s ok. Looking foward to snakes and formal pyramids.

As I see it there is nothing much going on in this chapter except the purge. Everything else is gated behind a paywall again. Nothing that is surprising at this point.

Purge looks very boring and is easily abuseable. Free explosives for literally no commitment. I have not seen one T4 in the Stream purge or any other usefull thrall that isn´t a demolisher. Clothing the same, behavior still stupid. Gates hold off nothing. Pouring out tar via thrall not possible. Purge is konga lining, which makes it easy to cheese. Chests hanging in air, half open. Purge officially ended but still thralls come and go, destroy foundations an steal treasures.

What I miss are real improvements or at least some rewards that are worth getting from this new purges. Like they could have made a complete new building set and armor, weapons, decorations you won´t get otherwhise and make them buyable at those purge traders at different levels. Those purges would then at least provide something you do not get otherwhise in the game.

That banner with the 4 thralls on it will be abused in pve and pvp. Mark my words!

From what this one has seen, more keys drop than there are currently cages/chests.

One very underhanded PvP technique may be to go loot a FOB that another clan summoned while they fight it off.

Also, the scorpion king and several other world bosses will be happy to kill the purge for you.

Oh snap! I didn’t even think about stealing from the purge. Are these things actually accessible while the purge is going on or only “open” to access after the purge boss is killed and therefore a race to the loot ensues?

Probably. It would be like real life of an enemy of yours planting misinformation about you to one of your other rivals to get them to do your dirty work for you.

On that note, you could also set up a purge to attack someone as a distraction, and while they defend the front door (or near to it), sneak in the back and loot the place. There are many PvP applications for this new purge mechanic that can make for some rather interesting scenarios.

On a lighter note, if you don’t want someone to build too close to you, keep a perptu-purge, the purge FOB could effectively prevent a player controlled siege FOB from being built.

Was liken this till the server got unplayable. Lagged down to the point I couldn’t do anything, was getting beat on by nothing take a bunch of damage then the NPCs poped in, I attack, missed them all because they only look like they are standing there.

More bugs I’ve come across:

When your coffers no longer have enough treasure to interest your attackers, those carrying loot vanish and drop anything they were carrying, allowing you to reclaim your treasure.

Mercenaries placed via the new banner do not acknowledge purge thralls as enemies, but your own thralls deem the mercenaries as enemies.

On occasion, simply having a treasure coffer on foundations with stairs leading up to it seems to reduce the possibility of successfully starting a purge. Placing a treasure coffer on the ground in the same spot has been much more successful. This only happens occasionally and I can’t make rhyme or reason what makes a successful purge-able base.

Only accessible once the purge boss is killed and in my 5 or so purges the purge boss waits at the entrance of the camp. In theory someone could wait for them to spawn and quickly kill them (480ish hp) and move into the chests…however all the enemies are still spawning from the center of camp so they would need to time it very well to not have a full wave of enemies stun locking them.
