Purge camps need more leniency

So I have been trying to get a purge going and every single spot I am picking for a purge location is running into this failed to locate purge camp error and I am having to rethink my entire base building due to this. Can we get this to be less stringent (maybe make the footprint less or something) because it’s just getting obnoxious now that I can enjoy content because I apparently haven’t built in the zones where the purges can be placed.

It would be real nice if content providers or someone could highlight the areas where purges can be called and where they can’t be.

Also it would be nice for FC to have a zone where you can build a purgeable structure and just set it to be able to decay within 10 minutes after you leave so that these zones can be used by all players on the server to get the purges.

I suggest as flat a spot as possible with enough space for at least a couple spaces to place the camp. Also, if you find a beach with decent space, you can build into the water. I had to do this on siptah. The camp spawns somewhere on the beach and the npcs run up the path I set forth over the water.

Though I digress, it is annoyingly particular… and even more so if someone builds nearby. Try to avoid building a purge base on noob river. New players won’t know to keep their distance.

That’s a serious problem. So far the only work around is to have a moving treasury that’s completely away from your house base, you name it. I truly want to build a facility that i can have everything but so far this effort didn’t work :confused:. So i have to keep a mobile treasury and a house treasury. Hopefully tp stones makes this easier, but it’s not pleasant and no workaround can be solution. The solution is to allow to players to build wherever they wish and have a purge!

The other problem that someone can find in official servers is that someone can easily build something small really close to your treasury and destroy your so far successful purge summons. That means that you have to move it again, because some people just do it on purpose :confused:. So treasury must give you instantly before you place it, information if it’s a purge able spot and at the same time not to allow other players builds for a great radius. But this might cause problems on pvp, people could use it to keep away trebs of opponents. Obstacles everywhere i guess.

The smaller footprint can also pose an issue with people that want to use the purge to grief others. It’s really “damned if you do, damned if you don’t” situation. :unamused:

There is a bug with “Gates”. Are you using gates? Try removing them.

@Wak4863 made a couple videos of a few spots.
There have been others.
But no deep dive on the apparently limited number of purgable build zones.

This one has yet to find a full rhyme or reason and can sometimes get a purge to spawn, and with no modifications to the base whatsoever, have subsequent attempts fail to find a spot.

Sympathies.

Allowing camp to spawn in shallow water would make it easier for the purge base to spawn in the swamp and many shoreline spots on Siptah. Shallow water didn’t stop the old purge. Likewise spawning on ice would open up more spots in the north.

Shrinking the size of the purge base by 1/3 would also help.

It was gates and apparently stairs that were the issues. I ran through 3 level 1’s and 2 level 2’s. Corrupted builds is and only having 1 level 20 t4 is making it a bit more difficult but it’s mostly fun. However once I tweak out the building and get more defenders I get the feeling it’s going to be as boring as the red mother when I industrialize the event.

Another feedback on this is a timer, like 10 minutes or so, on this because cranking these out without one is just grinding the loot with too much efficiency.

This purge system so far didn’t gave signs that’s going to be boring. Even in low lvls can create massive waves and give you a fight to remember.

I don’t think it is boring, but it is quite more narrow of an experience than having purges of any type of monster(s). There must be more planned.

Hmm. I’m going to wait for the next chapter to form more of an opinion.

I play on a modded map and finding a spot with enough space for the purge camp to spawn is not an issue. It spawns on a hilltop. All skewed. It spawns in shallow water. Looking like the tide washed it up. Gets crammed between an existing NPC Camp and my test base. Literally spawning on the no build zone of that camp. :laughing:

But the moment I close some gates, it suddenly can’t spawn.
Then the next big issue is, when the ultra smart purge minions bomb away the foundations on the way to the treasure, they can’t find the path anymore and the purge ends right in between. Everything despawns and you’re left with a tiny chest of loot where the camp has been. All the effort was for naught, your dead thralls, your broken equipment. Just because the purge only attacks doors.
Funcom should reprogram the A"I" to primarily attack doors and then, if no door is available in the path, attack other building pieces as well.

On a side note, I really liked the old purge system in regards of variety. I never knew from which side the purge would attack. Enemies sometimes came in from different directions every wave. Sometimes even from 2 or 3 in one wave. And it HAD waves and T4 crafter thralls.

I also used to think that the program chooses a more level place for the Stygian base. But after doing a lot of purges, I became convinced that this was not so. Stygian base appeared in seemingly the most inappropriate places for this, even very hilly and mountainous ones.
It’s all about the server. In a single player game, there are no problems with purge at all.

I’m leaning that way as well. Riddle me this. I did about 10 low level purges yesterday no problem and tried today and only got one to launch and it cancelled. Same base, same 3 doors (hell I tried to remove all the doors and it still said it was too difficult), the only variable that changed was amount of thralls present.v I had 1t4 archer on guard, 1 t4 fighter on guard, 1t4 fighter on follow, 1 bear on follow vs last night’s 1t4 thrall on follow.

I believe that this is the evolution of how purges will be. Eventually this will happen and since they have on plan crafters to be thralls too, then on purges we will have crafters again. Yet it’s scary for now. Even in the old purge system i was sacrificing a whole outpost just to knock out a specific crafter and the waves were easier. I cannot imagine how easily someone can loose the control of a purge right now just to knock out a crafter.
So if it is to have crafters on purges, for now, i prefer them to be in loot boxes.

That’s true, but I think the flatter areas allows for more flexibility. Mine is nearby the sand reapers by the galleon, tucked away into the rock face. The camp will often spawn right in front of the base, but will occasionally spawn out on the hill next to the nests.

What really amazes me is that you become a great fan of purges, it’s amazing :star_struck:. I had the privilege to meet you and play a bit with you my dear friend @jmk1999 and i remember how much you didn’t enjoy this mechanic. Your builds were always amazing and so carefully decorated from you and @Marylambs, so you had good reasons not to enjoy purges. In many purges of the past, the waves were really attracted by decorations, so you really had a point back then. I believe that devs did a really good start, because “peaceful” builders are enjoying purge today. They should be proud of it. It’s really amazing my friend we enjoy together now the same “madness”. I am really happy :blush:

Agreed… I can now build a base with the sole intent to purge. I just wish there was more variety in thralls and that crafters were present. For now they’re only available in camps or surges (on siptah). I really wish surges were available on EL. Those are pretty fun.

My son fixed a purge base when the update arrived. It was a pretty effort for him, something different. He loves the fighting aspect of the game, the building aspect not so. He always build a box, place everything inside, use dlcs to make the box, good looking box and take whatever weapon, no upgrades, no thralls and kill everything in the map alone :rofl::rofl::rofl:, apple that didn’t went far frim the tree i guess :blush:. His best armor maybe literally everything, from dlcs again, but not epic :laughing:. So you understand his profile more or less, let’s kill and who cares about grinding!
So i provided him materials to build whatever he thinks that would endure a “new purge”, he built a box with 2 doors, a great foundation wall around it and a gate. Nothing funcy and at the same time, nothing big for a purge to come in. I didn’t want to break his wings and tell him omg we are so dead :rofl:, so i said instead, Fantastic job, well done Ahilleas :+1:t6:. So far in this box i have made successfully purges until lvl 7. The only casualty i had was on a bugged purge that the stygian commander was invisible and the lvl6 purge lasted 40 min spawning endlessly Lemurian soldiers. I wouldn’t had a casualty, but i removed my bracelet in the effort to end this purge and tge whole thing went worst than expected.
But until lvl 7 i have taken thralls that i have forgotten that they existed in this map. Right now i have a huge variety of thralls that i cannot recall if i ever had them. Some of them are pure farts, some others unexpected fantastic. So this update took me totally out of my box. Since the age of war, my thralls were volcano, relics and berserkers, nothing else for many years. So i really love this “let’s get to know each other again” situation with thralls on exile lands.
After lvl 8 many good thralls are showing up, but i believe that in this server that i play with my son and me regularly, i have to fix a bit the box :laughing:.
After lvl 8 things can go really bad and i don’t want to fill berserkers in it. I have only 2 of them, a male and female, i named them Marcos and Kiki. From relic hunters again only 2, a male and a female, that’s it. The female is Talyna the male is still in the box, maybe today i will get him out and trained. I’ll name him John :wink:.

If Funcom phased purges so they could only be seen and interacted with by the clan that summoned them, it would stop dickheads from using the purge to troll other players
