I made 25 of these potions. Real easy to make. Took them to Sepermeru and in a matter of a few minutes had knocked out the majority of the population. Pretty sure I can take down new asagarth just as fast. But been busy in the volcano. And drawing agro just makes it easier.
Just feels bad man, like an exploit.
Note: I grow Irises. My black Iris is just very, very dark purple. So getting a purple potion from a black flower is no surprise; have you tried putting them in a lotus burner dro… golem? None the less the name is a bit of a misnomer. Maybe call it friendship potion? I thought potion of Roofie would be a bit much.
It’s a bit gimmicky and kindof a double-edged sword..
Funcom didn’t supply your character as being the initiator of that attack.. presumably so you don’t gain all the authority, concussion damage and other perk bonuses on top of an already potent orb (since then it would be way too OP for authority builds and way too weak for the rest)..
Doing so however also does not cause any threat with these NPCs.. so you can throw them around at your pleasure and the NPCs keep on cheering and not attack you, while also losing consciousness without actively being engaged in a fight… completely defeating the anti-cheese mechanic Funcom introduced with 3.0 that resets their bar when they leave combat..
Just make it count as a hostile action (or whatever the proper tech term would be) so that if you lob an orb at NPCs they’ll react the way they should and attack you.
Yeah, it’s not super OP when in areas with hostile enemies as they’ll engage with you regardless. If you can get them to stand in the cloud (which has a similar radius than I expected), they will go down quicker but it does take quite a few orbs if you’re not also using a truncheon with higher tier thralls, especially tier IV. You’re going to take a bit of damage with 5+ NPCs on you, trying to keep them in the cloud (especially because, afaik, there’s no point to throwing more than one at once).
I agree that if throwing the orb resulted in NPCs who either are in its vicinity or witness the throw turning hostile, it would probably feel more balanced.
Having a lotus smoke that gets those inhaling it high and eventually passed out is good.
The popping noise might draw attention, but that’s hardly more worth noticing than a person with an unsheathed blade.
Also, they are slow.
Very slow.
Especially if trying to acquire a worthwhile thrall.
In PvP they are barely faster (when combined with Truncheon) than just beating the foes into submission. Which makes them a non issue.
The AoE may be irksome as it leaves unconscious trash thralls, rather than open slots for respawn, but again, that’s a valid (if scummy) PvP tactic.
In PvE… Who cares?
If tier 1-3 thralls mattered, they might be more impactful, but even then, we can only haul one body back at a time and the Sepermeru exclusion zone is vast.
And Sepermeru is the only place they can be used to any real affect.
Hostile zones will eventually spot you, and the clouds are near useless against mobile enemies, unless one is using leash mastery that would just as easily allow one to blunt arrow the situation.
Edit: Mea Culpa
If one needs sacrifice blood and bottled souls they are useful as a trash collector to bring a batch of victims back for several altars. So, there is a corner case?
I also disagree! I’ve been wanting a knock out gas or sleep spell in the game for ages. Catching thralls is a massive boring chore personally. My least favourite part of the game loop. I really appreciate being able to knock them out with minimal effort. And yes, I’m aware I sound like a PvE player telling people not to nerf some weapon that’s unbalancing PVP
It’s a game with multiple ways to play it. The casual options are there for people to play casual, or to ignore if they want to play hardcore. I struggle to see options as a bad thing in a game. And let’s face it, it’s always required lots of tweaking and community-imposed limits to make this even vaguely resemble a competitive PVP or hardcore survival game.
