I thought doors locked, but we have someone on the server coming into houses and killing folks while they are logged out. do doors unlock now during pvp hours or what?
No, only your clan has access to your doors and items. Doors never unlock at anytime on any Genre. Ways people kill you when your in your house and think your safe -
Shoot arrows through a window.
Kill you because your sticking out of the wall.
With the reach of spears, you need to log out in a room with no windows and in the middle of the room. Make sure the room is big enough so your not close to walls. Believe me, I see people sticking out of their bases all of the time on my PVE-C server.

@JJDancer is right, but also it is possible, if you logoff close to external walls, you could be killed by venomous gas (because the walls do not seem to block its area of effect).
Just wear a sandmask before to logoff to prevent this last problem.
i would say log out naked cos the chances are that you will die one way or another 
In fact I do it, but only when I know I can’t login for few days
