Yeah thats clearly understandable and i think most of us wanna have fun and play pvp in our own way.but if you wanna be successful you need to use the strongest build.
I mean if you are good perhaps you can play whatever you want.but you’ll handicap yourself against players who are “abusing” the meta.
In fact, to have a horse ready trained to stay cool in battle mideaval knights and/or their loyalty had to invest years, and not “just a little”. This is the problem when trying to argue with “realism” arguments here: You are applying them in the minimal section you consider them adequate, but there is such a big part of the game where you don´t.
Just to give you an example: There are dragons in the game, right? In reality, don´t dragons have to poo-poo from time to time?
Entirely agree
There may be some counters to horses, yes. But for reasons that have been named over and over in these discussions, all those counters are far from effective right now. This is why everybody not starting out is using the horse, spear and kitty meta. And the question is not: “should fighting from horseback be superior?” but HOW superior.
People on PvP servers are using only one setup, and I cannot imagine that the game has reached its final status this way.
Uh huh. So your counterarguments to a reason why a person on horseback might do more damage than a person on foot is to say we should have to spend years training the horse from the ground up?
Where exactly do you draw the line here? Should we have to groom it as well? Clean it’s hooves? Muck out the stables? Are you going to start demanding that we have to worry about things like dental hygiene and bladder control as well?
All because you can’t adapt to a change that also applied to PvP?
Mas… U must be kidding…
We all adapted to this new meta, but it’s not a fun or balanced meta.
Me and my clan managed to wipe 2 servers using this, but it’s not fun. I like the challenge, the skillplay, the diversity, the strategies and the rewards that come from this.
You need no skill to play on this meta. You Just need leveled horses and kitties to spare and some luck.
Imagine if you play a game like dota or lol and only one hero/champion is Worth playing. Becoz he grants you 80-90% chances to win no matter what.
Is it right from a game design perspective? Of course no.
The example that’s always brought up is always a variant of “I was out alone using my stone hatchet to chop trees in my coarse tunic the other day when these twelve guys on horseback wearing flawless epic heavy armor and with a whole pack of tigers behind them ran me over and killed me. Obviously horses are OP and must be nerfed.”
Exactly what is it about that situation that says it should be anywhere close to an even fight? And I say this as someone who is not even a PvPer. It’s just blatantly obvious who should be likely to win regardless of any potential balance issues that may or may not exist.
Amazing, truly amazing
“We had horses and killed 4 people. Then they got horses and killed us!”
Conan: Horses I see. But it’s okay, nothing wrong with that I guess.
if you are a homeless, just buy you a house !
As I think, in this game there will always be a meta that far exceeds everything else. They nerfed the bows, and people adapted, they nerfied the oneshot thralls, and people adapted, they will nerf the horses and people will adapt, they will use another combination that will be the winner and those who do not use it will cry.
That’s not the example. The example is, the clan that has more people on ground than the other clan, usually loses a fight nowadays.
And wtf you don’t even play PvP. Why participate in this discussion with your limited knowledge!?
Because you don’t have to play PvP to recognize a faulty argument. A noob on foot with basic gear just shouldn’t be able to take a full cavalry charge. Period. Even a vet with decent gear should get hurt pretty darn bad when he takes a lance to the face. Why shouldn’t he? That’s kinda the whole point of the charge. And the tiger escort? Yeah, it’s a friken tiger. It’s not gonna tickle when it claws at you. Maybe you should have given the situation a little more thought before you decided to run through an open field all alone knowing full well what you might run into.
When it comes to something like maces v.s. swords, sure. Not when it comes to well equipped mounted cavalry with escort v.s. some poor sap with basic equipment collecting rocks out in the open. Why on earth would that ever be an even fight?
I’m not the one asking to be able to take on heavily armed cavalry and their tigers with a stone club. That BS wouldn’t fly in any game. And if they did nerf horses like that you’d just be crying about horses being totally useless. And you’d be right. Horses aren’t as maneuverable as someone on foot. They have to be powerful to balance that. Otherwise they are just a liability. You don’t need 3000000 hours of PvP experience to see that much.
I would like to see who asked for this, so you can directly reply to them, not to everyone making a reasonable discussion on this thread.
What reasonable discussion? There were like, five posts that were reasonable, including mine, and then you guys started ranting about “simulators” and complaining about meta. Not to mention mocking anyone who doesn’t agree that horses are mega OP.
Thats exactly the point, YOU dont know if they are or not, since YOU self admittedly have never played PVP. As I said, you are out of your depth.
You might notice that I never said I did. But I can make a few judgements based on what I’ve seen in PvE, among them the rather simple and straightforward conclusion that a charging horse and a tiger can and should really friken hurt when it hits you. Not only from a “realism” standpoint, but also from a game balance standpoint.
I always play in PVP server and at first i hated horses, but But I thought: this is the meta now, I have two options, complain, die and be looted or adapt, learn to use the horse and kill and loot others. now i love horses and i never play on private servers where they forbid using them.
On the other hand, I think I should go back to the old roll/dodge system to balance a fighter on foot with one on horseback.
You speak as if you are thoughtful and knowledgeable…
But then, in another topic, you were the first to attack someone, in this case me.
Since you have demonstrated neither knowing the mathematics behind the game, nor the strategies, and what happens in practice.
if you log into any official pvp server, you will see that the dominant clans and the ALL challengers are using the same strategy because it is the only valid one.
Horse + Tiger + spear / lance + heavy armor.
If you don’t have this setup and don’t have more players, you will eventually lose.
And that’s what everyone except you has been saying on the forum … we want DIVERSITY in pvp.
We all adapted to that meta, but it’s not fun, it’s not balanced, and it’s not good for beginners or veterans.
btw. why did you flag this post?
So why the hell are you flagging people who comes with facts against your opinion?
If you think Horses and tigers are not OP.
i can bring some data table rows from devkit for you to understand.
besides this, i can make a challenge.
You go on foot against my girlfriend who never played this game before. She will have a horse and a leveled tiger. both of you with same equipment setup.
If you think it’s going to be too hard, you can have a horse too, but not a tiger.
what do you think?
When only one Strategy is viable, the game is in fact unbalanced.
I said it a million times and i’m going keep saying it.
This game has at least 13 types of weapons, 3 armor types, a lot of pets, a lot of thralls and the only valid strategy is a horse + tiger + lance/spear and heavy armor.
so the rest are data thrash.
Beside this, this horse + tiger fight doesn’t need any skillplay. You can give this setup to any noob, even the ones who played less than a hour and he is going to kill people with high end equipments and thousands of hours of experience.
It doesn’t make any sense. It’s an old game design, when mmorpgs were solely based on equipment power and level.
Every game is now trying to reward skillplay because of e-sports and the culture the came with it.
Before the Horse update, this game was near a good balance, we were using almost any weapon with some success, even when the bow was overpowered.
But then came mounts.
Mounts should stay, they are a nice mechanic and it’s really nice to play with, but Funcom should balance the game, it’s all that i’m asking…
Do you understand this? Please read this at least 5 times, slowly and try to understand.
Do not flag this without any reason. I’m talking about facts.
