Questions about the new purge for Dennis

I have some questions on the new purge of the next age:

  1. In chapter 2 when we can inflict the purge ourselves can we also select the purgetype? Is the thing of getting only certain purge on a certain location on the map gonna change?
  2. Is the purgefreezone of the exilelands map gonna stay or removed?
  3. Since the new purge is coming on chapter 2 and in chapter 1 we haul treasures and gold to our coffers, so at the start of chapter 2 everyones coffers are full and everyone starts purges so can the servers handle it? Has server performance been taken care of?

Thanks

Server performance will never be planned to be “taken care of”. If they could make them perfect they would. As long as everyone on a server doesnt summon a purge at exactly the same time, I dont see why it would be any different than today.

Difference is that you can inflict it yourself so theres gonna be a lot more purges than on this day on the servers. On PS even one purge inflicts on server performance, just hoping it will be more optimized than the old one :slightly_smiling_face:

I’m not sure there will be more purges. A lot of people avoid them and this way they can just not have them at all. If I were betting, I’d put money on less purges rather than more occurring. As to optimization, they are always trying to optimize the game. It’s true that performance on the funcom servers could be better, but with every patch, they try to make improvements. There is a bit of server to server variability thrown in there as well so it’s not always straightforward.

But since its new and main feature of chapter 2, I’d suspect a lot of people want to atleast try the new feature, and everyone can do it at the start of chapter 2 since coffers will be full.

Well that’s probably true. I guess it kind of depends on your first question. Is it just purges as normal or is it new stuff purging you in chapter 2? Chapter 3 with the repurges sounds like totally new, but some of this also depends on things regarding the number of things in a wave, whether there are new siege machines (Dennis did mention personal sized battering rams), etc. This will be important for the next beta client release before chapter 2 and 3. People will need to test how hard it stresses the system. They’ll streamline it the best they can, but the final proof is in the pudding of how it does on the g-portal open servers.

Hope you don’t mind if I spit some answers as I see them.

1: No, but… From my understanding the raid will depend on your total worth; treasures in your vault. So logically you could effect the scale of your raid.

2: Good question, waiting on an answer. Dennis?

3: Have fun with that. I have no doubt muggings will turn in to a regular thing on PVP. As well as ch1 will still have the old purges and it seems the gauge has a turbo now. I was hoping to have my small island keep set up to funnel to a kill box for ch2, but a fishman purge took down half my keep. The half with all my cooked T3 building mats :face_with_symbols_over_mouth: Back to flotsam.

If you don’t already know what my opinion is… Official serevrs should be an example of what the game should be. But what we have are public servers, which I have compared to bus station bathrooms before.

If the public servers are the face funcom wants to present to the public, that is on them.

Can’t say for PVP but of the opinion most; especially the ones the need it most, will not opt in to the new raider system.

Agree. I think most people PVE and PVP will try to beat the raiders at least once. I have no doubt people will be building raider traps.

Still waiting for Dennis to explain that off hand “other ways to trigger a purge” :face_with_raised_eyebrow:

One of the issues with seeing both sides of an argument is contradicting yourself :flushed:

And this is why I don’t call them “Official” anymore, because they are NOT intended to be the benchmark for the game. They are a shared space with restrictions. You simply cannot play as freely on funcom servers as you can on privates. You cannot use mods on pc on funcom servers the same as you can privates (and yes, mods are a part of the game experience which is why they spend a ton of resources on the devkit for us to use). They are only “official” because they are provided by Funcom; no other conclusion about play experience can be derived from that.

Main concern that I have is that the official servers will choke at the start of chapter 2, on people trying the new purges. Hoping Funcom has thought of it.

They do the best they can. They are aware that a significant chunk of players use them and their goal is to serve all players.
