Reminder re: malicious exploit

Well, if you say it’s 100% then I’m sure you have some extra good evidence to back that claim up
Other than “some random dude in a discord said it to be true”.

Otherwise I can present to you some other random dude who swears it isn’t a thing… and this other random dude has a Funcom badge next to their name and is one of the people doing the actual banning :stuck_out_tongue:

No, you’re just as incorrect about that as the above statement, but compared to me, you actually ARE new, so I’ll cut you some slack too

Not to take any sides here, but I’m wondering if the two of you are using the word “automatic” in different ways. Since I’m a programmer, I tend to see “automatic” and interpret it as “automated”, but those are two different concepts, and the former doesn’t always imply the latter.

Admittedly, the use of the word “triggers” seems to imply automation, but maybe the intended meaning was “if enough reports come in within a short period, a ban and devwipe will be enacted without any further investigation”?

It’s a lot more plausible if you take a broader look at the levels of support the players have been getting lately. When it takes almost two weeks to even get a cookie-cutter “we’re looking at it” answer to a thread that compiles a staggering number of reports from people unable to play single-player, when it takes 6 days to get the attention of a customer service representative on a question about BattlEye problems in the Game Pass edition and even then the reply is “hey, can you check this thing that someone already told you to check and you already confirmed wasn’t a solution”, is it such a reach to assume that the server admins might not bother actually investigating reports?

Well then it just has to be a fact.

Yes, I understood that as automated: Getting banned by a robot as a reaction to mass reporting without any human intervention, but you do raise a good point, I haven’t thought about the alternate meaning

I don’t necessarily think the two have to be related though  They can get poor service and it still be 100% manual lol (that sounds so much better when you don’t say it out loud)

But actually your points underline this as well. If any part of the support system is to be automated, then I would assume they would begin with better replies than straight up going for the nuclear option of making a wipe-bot.
Their timed responses are still somewhat automated, but those are just generic text - meaning that it doesn’t do so much as parse their actual report.

Not having any form of standardized report “form” where you can input direct coordinates with some form of validation of data makes it also highly unlikely that they could even so much as figure out what player the report is about without human intervention - not to mention go and adequately wipe and ban them on the correct server.

(Regarding this, I think it might actually be a useful thing if they implemented some form of AI parsing for their reports that has at least an approximate capacity to weed out all the garbage reports, so that they’re left with only the better quality ones.
This way perhaps they would finally catch up with the queue. I’m not well informed on the availability of such ready-made tools currently out there - but I also doubt they would go and develop their own just like that, these things take time.)

TLDR: I really don’t think any of it is automated beyond the automatic replies you get after a few weeks of nobody bothering with your report

Nah, that part is not a reach at all, I did mention several times in the past, that the quantity of reports they have and the amount of servers they’re running relative to the small CS staff they have would most likely lead to very rushed decisions in some cases, but that’s also not in any way evidence to the presence of a bot wiping people (I know you were not suggesting that it is, clarifying it for others)

that crazy, for now 5 years, each time i see a thread about malicious action, or critical gamebreaking bug, its hijacked or totally derailled from the original subject, but where this is crazy, this time, is to see it happening again on an official communication of funcom about malicious exploit…

You know what’s even crazier? When people complain about off-topic posts. You know why it’s crazy? I’ll let you in on a little secret: you can flag off-topic posts. Here’s how:

  1. Click on the ellipsis symbol below the post:
    image

  2. Click on the flag symbol:
    image

  3. Select “It’s off-topic”:

  4. Click on the “Flag Post” button:

If enough people do this, the post gets automatically hidden by the system and the author gets notified and given a chance to fix their post. If they decide to fix it by editing it, it gets reinstated and everyone who flagged it gets a notification, so they can go and look if it’s really fixed. If it isn’t, you can flag it a second time. If it gets hidden a second time, the author can’t reinstate it anymore. Only a forum moderator can override this and reinstate the post.

Maybe if more people flagged off-topic posts than complaining about them, we could get these forums cleaned up a bit, since we can’t rely on volunteer moderators anymore and Funcom’s internal moderators are… let’s call them “busy”.

An update and goodbye…

My friend made a character and logged in to go see whats happened… his wife video called the tv screen so I could direct and see, most of my base is gone, the one bit left has no door, another tribe has already put the same walls up I had and surrounded whats left of my place, I would not be able to play even if there was anything left when I got back in, which there won’t be as it will have been too long between renders by then. It very much does look like someone deliberately did this to get my lil patch of land. I have lost soo much to updates going wrong, log in loops blocking server access, mysterious items going missing etc etc, I am done now, totally done ( and feel conned as well) If I wanted the full-on experience of logging in to having nothing left I’d be playing Rust or simialr and NOT spending out on DLC for building pieces etc that then take an inordinate amount of grind. Merry Christmas everyone, and good luck

@AndyB @den @Community

The APATHY, the lack of COMMUNICATION, and the refusal to ENGAGE with this player community is DESTROYING the player community.

I implore you - get out here and tell us something. At least come and answer for the issues, and tell us what we can plan to expect.

If you have a more productive method for getting the Developers and the Community Team’s attention, I welcome it. Until that method is shared with me, I will continue to leverage the tools that I have.

I merely find it slightly amusing that every single post you make, you overutilize these tags to the point where most of those people probably blocked your account :stuck_out_tongue:

I always read these posts in like a panicked scarecrow / mad-prophet voice.

Take a look at this instance… The player in question derailed the thread by posting about their personal ban due to landclaim violations into an announcement thread about malicious hacks.

I think it was fine though as they initially didn’t realize why this happened, which is why me and others explained it to them. (still… as others pointed out, all of this was off-topic)
You know very well that bans from official servers are handled via Zendesk, so I really don’t understand why you felt the need to yet again tag some community managers who do NOT handle / issue bans instead of directing the user over to Zendesk should they wish to find out more info.

In any case, I’m not bothered or anything, it’s up to you what you do, but don’t be surprised that some might find it weird / amusing that you literally feel the need to tag an entire group of Funcom staff in every single post you make, it’s almost like you’re deliberately reaching and looking for things to tag them about… kinda comes across as if you believed they work for you or something and they need you to assign them tasks to look into otherwise they’re incapable of reading things.

Keep up the good work thou

I misunderstood. I thought that MibsXX was leaving the community and the game due to issues and lack of comms. I missed that it was because of a ban.

Regardless - I think my off topic point still stands. Community members are finding other things to play and spend their money on. Because we cannot get any answers about the current issues in this game.

i think they dont care, in fact, i htink they are doing all this on purpose.

YOU ARE Probably right my friend…
