Remove all banned words except racist +

Seriously I wanted to name my rhino stampede… yet this isn’t allowed. Just make it racism words only and biggoted stuff because stampede really?

Man I don’t get why it is so all encompassing.

If I place a Kushite thrall the system is already programmed to have that name right? If I go to change the name I get an error, still retains it of course because the name overrides the error.

But if I rename a thrall that isn’t Kushite, I can’t name it Kushite.

It’s just because shit is in there. Shit, probably one of the most tame swear words out there… in a game for adults?

Others have mentioned grape being a problem too. I get why that isn’t ok for the context word and it wouldn’t make me happy to see it without the g. But the whole word used?

Definitely needs work.

As long there are streams of blood, severed limbs, beheaded enemies, cannibalism and burned bodies all over the place, I can live quite good with a “word” filter…

What is best in life? Conan: “To crush your enemies, see them driven before you, and to hear the lamentations of their women” .

P.S.: Oh, I forgot the fatalities! You see, words are stronger than swords! Or something like that…

Up until (relatively) recently, only Xbox had strict censorship. I think Funcom might have just copied Microsoft’s banned word list to make it consistent across all platforms.

It is stupid though. If Microsoft demands stricter censorship, fine, it is their prerogative to make such dumb decisions, but those of us not under Microsoft’s (or Sony’s) thumb, should not have to deal with these kinds of restrictions.

Back when Xbox got restrictions and named some of my thralls with same name on Playstation. I think it had eyes in it.

I can’t speak to Microsoft censorship, but on PS, there have never been those heavy restrictions in other games. I’ve seen some odd ones in the past. I feel it may be a generic list used in whatever code they borrowed/bought to run it. Whether that’s a Microsoft code or some 3rd party? I can’t say. I just know my thrall “Sheila” is now “Sheelah.”

When soft people cry the loudest about how words online hurt them, this is the result. They look at it as “this is easier to do a broad sweeping ban on all bad looking words”.

Censored words but breasts, genitalia and ass is okay!

Has anybody considered using names that are relative to the era?
To the Environment?
To the Ethnic origin of the specific race?

A little enlightenment can go a very long way without ruffling feathers.
Try being more original.

I want to be toxic :white_medium_small_square: :white_medium_small_square: but the :white_medium_small_square: mother :white_medium_small_square: this :white_medium_small_square: :white_medium_small_square: word filter.

If I want to call you a :white_medium_small_square: :white_medium_small_square: I ought to be able to you :white_medium_small_square: :white_medium_small_square: I got first amendment rights you :white_medium_small_square: :white_medium_small_square: :white_medium_small_square:
I have every right to call a :white_medium_small_square: a :white_medium_small_square: and if you can’t handle it well :white_medium_small_square: :white_medium_small_square: :white_medium_small_square: :white_medium_small_square: :white_medium_small_square: and the horse you road in on.

Now I played the dozens as a kid. Know all about baseball chatter. But there is a difference between crap talk and being toxic. And if you don’t know the difference you are probably being toxic.

The issue is people trying desperately to sneak words past the word filter. But I don’t think a word that has a filtered word as a part should be on the list.

Why all but not racist?
Why do you want to legalize different groups of offenses but not racists?

Tell me I’m sweating with impatience.

Everyone is against slavery in the world, but yet here we are knocking people out, forcing them through hard work to break their spirits, to become mindless slaves we can use for whatever.

We could do down that road, but sooner or later people have to realize - its a game. Its online. Your playing with randoms from around the world. You will hear and see things you dont like.

No that is you detoxing
To this post,

I would pay good money to see your thought process in real time. I mean I can usually suss out why most normies think the way they do, and you’re not one of us. I mean your brain is wired up in some way I have yet to logasize.

It’s like you have this bad AI filter or translator or something.

Hearing things you don’t like isn’t the same as ToS violations or even the actual topic of this thread.

The topic of this thread is the word filter not allowing through words that a part of is a blocked word. We azzume there is some word list so people can’t name thralls after foot ball players like richard butkus.

I’m sorry, I love that name Dick Butt Kiss

You mean like… Kushite? Oh wait… :flushed:

Plus some words mean very different things in other languages or at the least could be taken to. My introduction to Portuguese initially had me thinking boa tarde meant something completely different than what it does.

I would assume that the game makers simply want as many people as possible to have a pleasant time so they continue to play and hopefully buy stuff. I’ve seen forums in the past that allowed anything and it just doesn’t work. Most people get enough of it very quickly and leave. Not a good business model.

On the mild side… A friend named their EverQuest bard Alanis Morrissette back in the day and a GM changed it. Friend waited a few months and changed it back and it remains to this day. I’d say isn’t it ironic but you ought to know.

Sure, it’s “just a game” …
I know and I see them all of the time, but I’m not going to push my personal views or moral standards upon the individual. All I can do is SMH and laugh even if their chosen names are ignorant, unoriginal, disgusting, inflammatory, racist or even some pathetic way of trying to garner attention.
But some of them have to be reported for official intervention.

I often wonder why people chose some of the names they have. I mean do you think some of these now in the spot light people would have picked the name they did if they knew it may end up being on the evening news with their face?

Sad part is, probably.

I may not say anything in chat, but I’m saying a lot setting here. Oh ya I’m judging you.

Deacon is a nick name from the 80’s and I have issues with depression, so Deacon Blue.

Deacon Elie is a dead frontier character of mine.

I don’t know how people get through life, but can’t handle words in a chat. Really…
I would do away with every word filter. People need to grow up and just learn how to ignore arseholes.

No reflection on you Deacon.
