Don’t saddle her with the responsibility of testing random ideas
Tigers aren’t exactly built to carry humans anyway, they’re just not big enough, they’re built lower to the ground than horses (shorter legs) so there’s that whole ground clearance issue. The in game models would need to be upscaled as well. I’d prefer rideable camels and elephants to go with the horses and chubby unicorns we have currently.
Man the idea is great even better with some platform you can put archers on (since they’re kinda useless atm anyway):
Next to Elk Mount, greater Wolf has been fave since it popped up in ESO.
Just because Howard never mentioned that someone mounted a tiger or lion into battle doesn’t mean is isn’t possible.
I understand the reasoning and desire to stay true to lore but after all, the Hyborian age is set before recorded ancient history, so animals were bigger back then.
Still, rideable tigers and wolves are too exotic for Conan in my opinion. If I want rideable tigers, I’d play WoW or ESO or some other high fantasy game. I’d prefer sticking close to the lore because the moment you add highly exotic mounts, people will start asking for more high fantasy crap like playable elves, the ability to cast chain lightning or fireballs. The game is based around Conan and the Hyborian Age, not Masters of the Universe.
People have asked for elves and few things and were told the game is staying Lore Friendly.
Elk, Wolves and Tiger Mounts…arent really off table. There off table…but not in trash can. XD
If we can put Mask and Other oddites on Pets… we can turn Elk etc into a Mount for fun. There a line… thats not really crossing it like Fly Rhinos or anything is. XD
The most exotic and easiest to develop mounts I can think of that wouldn’t be too lore breaking would be an undead or corrupted horse or chubby unicorn. The game has necromancy, demonic summoning and corruption, as well as both models being used as mounts already.
Taming a Tiger
”Do you think that these beasts simply roll over and let you scratch them on the belly? This isn’t like riding horse – that is unless you’ve ever heard of a horse with claws as long as your forearm and teeth that would give a dragon nightmares.” - Tamarin’s Tigers Mercenary
Riding a Wolf
”They say that dogs are man’s best friend, but wolves? Wolves are stand-offish and they don’t like humans much. We smell.” - Wolves of the Steppes Raider
→ Rise of the Godslayer
Yes they are exotic …
but the tigers are so amazing find a baby, raise them, teach them hunting… and finally you can ride them ( or a hunting pet)
i miss it
AoC’s Rise of the God Slayer expansiion rideable tigers and wolves were all Funcom. There’s zero mention of either animal being used as mounts by Robert E. Howard. There’s plenty of posts with far more detailed explainations on AoC when that expansion was released complaining about the exact same thing this thread is.
i see no problem on using tigers as a mount with the * right* story background… or a mammoth…or painted horses…
rideable snakes for sethites… why not…
at least it is a game …
There are reasons why people don’t ride lions or tigers in real life. There’s a rather famous limerick explaining one of those reasons.
Also, the Hyborian Age is set in a fictional past. There’s no indication that animals in this fictional past were bigger than ours.
Hrm, can’t imagine that being very …um…immersive.
As big as the big cats are, it sounds a bit unwieldy to me , especially considering how buff some of you lot running around on CE are…
Maybe on a Sabre-tooth, that could work.
You said it yourself, the Hyborian age is set on a fictional time not real life. Having a conservative mindset only limits the game’s potential.
Yes, but the fiction was written by Robert E. Howard. Respecting his vision of the Hyborian Age is not being conservative - it’s what many of us want out of the game.
Not wanting elves, vampires or airships in the game limits the game’s potential, of course - but this is Conan Exiles the game, not Generic High Fantasy the game.
The biggest of the sabre tooth species had a shoulder height of around 120cm. Big cats also don’t have the right spine / leg setup to carry a human the same way as a horse. So, as much as I love Battle Cat, I’ll stick to my tiger being a furry chainsaw and keep using my horse to get me from point a to b whilst I wait for camels and elephants to be added to the mount list.
Ever heard of princess Akivasha, Stygian vampire, she appears in The Hour of the Dragon, written by Howard. Trust me I dont want the game to have orcs or airships or anything too high fantasy. But i read the stories Howard wrote. Necromancy, Shapeshifting, vampires, giant creatures, demon sorcerers, aliens. No one is asking to turn the game into LOTR or Warcraft, its a human mounting a tiger or saber tooth nothing more.
Yeah one, yet she exists in the lore. Only God knows what else would’ve Howard added to the lore if he lived longer.
Played by Tia Carrere in that godawful Kull the Conquerer movie.
