unreal, merge a server is like a wipe for the players that get moved. just wipe the server and be done with it.
server Merge is for MMOs not small servers. just wipe all official servers to make this right. if funcom wants to continue to offer official servers then state up front the wipe date at server open…
just wondering if/when we get wiped spoils the game now. over and out.
Ya I saw this coming about 6 months ago. I noticed server population dropped drastically on almost all official servers. Sometimes I could see dozens and dozens of servers with just 1 player. It`s simply called losing money so down size. You got to do your customers right or your lose them simply stated. I still like Funcom and I hope they make it Conan is a great game.
Closing down inactive servers is not the same as wiping active servers. We are active because people enjoy our environment and we get along well. Asking for a complete wipe of all servers is really just a vindictive response IMO.
I think they should have wiped. Those databases are very old and still have data in them from before the changes that made them more efficient. You’d have a much smoother experience post wipe and could go a few days between restarts. It also would have driven hype and kind of equalized things across the board which would entice many to come back.
Overall the experience would be much better than the initial loss of some buildings and such. Though I wonder if they could have done a softwipe where they kept your characters (merging them with new servers to trim down as they are now) so you don’t lose recipes. That would cushion the blow quite a bit, especially those playing Siptah.
But as I’ve said in the past few years, you should only ever wipe when you need to. Not because of any sociable reason. The only exception to that is when you play private and the general population wants to do it (or the owner feels like it, its their server after all).
Wiping for ‘fairness’ is just an emotional thing, not anything of substance.
I absolutely agree, a complete wipe of all servers and then let people choose the server they want to play on themselves, and no I am not affected by this trimming, I play actively on 2 servers where my EL server is completely left out and my Siptah server is only a target server for people to be transfered to
However for not having people to start completely over there should have been a system in place where each player is offered a temporary vault they could upload their most precious stuff to, how big such a vault should be I don’t know, but it would remove the danger of having to wander around with everything on you and risk losing it all to either environmental danger or players that would try to ambush them once they set foot on a server.
Realistically this would probably take some time and resources to get in place, so right now it probably isn’t an option for Funcom and therefore this may be the best option they could offer within a given timeframe.
Wait… Do people lose all learned recipes during this server trimming transfer?
I mean this doesn’t even happen in normal server transfer!
The backflip here is astounding to watch over large amount of time.
Funcom would always position themselves as “we dont take ownership of the servers” due to by in large the excuse there were 1000’s of them and it was too much to ask to manage them.
Now to consolidate because lack of ownership and support on these servers has resulted in continuous exodus of the player base largely not due to limitations of features mainly nearly always down to “cheating wins every time” behaviors. Now they need to consolidate to reign in the costs
I cannot wait for what they do with DUNE and yield lessons from Conan Exiles as the real reason why player owned servers seem to popup and die is simply due to lack of responsibility over their servers. Now its consolidated will they take more ownership?
and the most evident and basic stuff to do, that every game like conan do when they close server
give ability to player to download the last backup of the server closed, so they can still enjoy their base in solo mode and think that they have won and not lost their time, because they can still load their base and enjoy their kingdom if they have will to do it
Server trimming does harm to active players on affected servers not to them who just built, conquered and left. This way FC punishes those who play on server. Is it fair to punish players about server inactivity if it doesn’t depend on active players? We are playing! We are adults and play in our free time which is not unending. Siptah server where I was playing starting from EA first days until now is in list and is going to shut down. That i am bitter about are my leveled thralls and bases not mats, armor, weapons etc. I’ve built and leveled slowly during these years learning and growing stronger and wiser about fight tactics, thrall skills, points of interest, best places for base etc. It took time and I developed things to level there i don’t need to grind to make things i need - i can just take them from chests and make them. I loved to level thralls and followers seeking for best and i had strong and good thrall and follower team. Now they are gone and i have lost motivation to move elswhere because it is not fun for me to repeat for repeating. P.S. My post doesn’t require any answer from anyone. It is my opinion and i have right to express it.
i understand and feel your pain, but don’t you think it is better to still have a copy of what you build and of your thrall on your personnal computer than nothing, because what is sure is that they will close server and erase it, so its choice betwen lost everything except what you can wear and transfer or still have on solo what you build (well if they consider to give backup), and the thralls you trained, knowing that you have been untill the end of server and survived, and then start new adventure on new server (realm) if you choose to do it.
If these server merges don’t bring our buildings, thralls, and all materials with us, it’s a huge slap in the face. It’s unfair to people who are active on unpopular servers! You put real time into this game and it isn’t right to have to start over even if you do get to keep your character. I refuse to start over! If my buildings, thralls, and all of my materials don’t transfer into the new server during this server merge, I will never play Conan Exiles ever again. It will be uninstalled immediately. I hope Funcom is thinking smart because by doing this they’re only going to lose even more casual players if they don’t get to keep all of their hard work! “Official Server #3533” great community! Leave us alone!
They are merging my server with another and this is it for me. I’ve been on this server for 3 yrs and weathered too many storms to count. I’ve been playing since it first dropped 6 yrs ago. One of the things that kept me coming back was being able to keep all my buildings all this time. Not anymore. It was fun while it lasted. Ciao.
The best way to deal with this is to not login on merge day. Your bodies do not show up until you login. You can effectively choose your time you wish to risk it and if you’re in a clan, you can go in at a time of your scheduling.
I know its inconvenient, but waiting a few days might be the best option so those preying on mergees will eventually just get bored. Then you can login with relative safety.
Although there is a point to be made here. Scurrying around like a mouse is great when you are low level since you don’t have 1000+ pounds of stuff on your back. You aren’t that concerned about your cache at that time and so you got time to build it right…however when your entire base (or what’s left of it that you managed to salvage) is on your back in a foreign server…you want to minimize your exposure time as much as possible…and vaults won’t help because you know dang well they are expecting vaults to be slapped down and will have the means to cut through them.
