Shattered bridge question

Hi all!

Last night I was looking up at the Shattered Bridge and started thinking of those ghosts that walked across it when you explore the top. Is it possible to fill in those gaps and repair the bridge? Only thing I can think of is stacking stone foundations. Any one ever try?

Ahh, the things I think of while at my desk at work…

In Conan, anything is possible.

While it is possible to patch or repair the shattered bridge, it really does not add anything to the ghosts’ manifestation there.

You ought to give it a try. It is a fun little project. Plan on using ceiling tiles as far as the structural integrity will allow. Then, support from underneath with pillars going down to the ground. Or - perhaps incorporate horizontal elevators.

Getting the height and alignment right is the tricky part if you want it to look good.

For alignment to the ground, I use the following “top down” approach.

Set the foundations at the start of your bridge project on one edge of the chasm or canyon. Build out as far as the foundations will allow. Then, start placing ceiling tiles.

The SI (structural integrity) rules will typically allow you to extend 4 ceiling tiles from a fully grounded foundation block (Si = 100). If you try, the 5th tile will not snap to. You can even check the SI score by equipping your repair hammer. Once you have gone out the 4 tiles, begin pillaring down from your last tile. From the edge, or from below, place pillars underneath that last tile. Use crouch © to get close to the edge of your project without falling off to see underneath. Or, work from the bottom of the chasm. If it is high, some temporary scaffold pieces may be required.

Even with an SI of less than 20, you can always get pillars to snap-to underneath (or above, actually) your poorly supported tile. Stack these down, down, down, until you get to the ground.

Two options now. 1) You can either pillar directly into the ground, which should provide an effective snapping point for the pillar, and provide you SI 100 up top. Or, my preference… 2) you can work to get foundation underneath your support pillar. This requires a little bit of manipulation. Bring the pillar down not to the ground, but within 1 foundation block of the ground. Put a ceiling tile on the bottom of it. Then, snap a foundation to the ceiling tile. For whatever reason, you cannot snap a foundation to the bottom of an extended support pillar. Then, destroy the ceiling tile, and snap in a full foundation block underneath the pillar. This is technically snapping next to the first foundation block you placed. Then, you can clean up your first “anchor” foundation block so that everything is aligned.

If using method 2, you can then extend ceiling tiles along the bottom of the chasm to support your project again after 4 more ceiling tiles as everything on the base of your structure will now be aligned with the top.

Of course - in any project - use T1 sandstone first to frame it, and later go back and upgrade once you are happy with placements.
