So what do you think about horses?

Use your common sense!

Between the dredge and shattered bridge there are all kinds of them.
We got ours in the north land just past the hunter cabin.

Thanks for the tips

Thank you. I found only two sturdy foals near the Shattered Bridge. I discovered once the 1st was tamed and placed that it’s impossible to mount one without a saddle. No bare back ridding for us.

Don’t you know that’s unsafe? Always use prot-- I mean, a saddle :stuck_out_tongue:

haven’t got one my own but i think it would be nice to be able to carry knocked out thralls in them

I noticed. I’d just rather have my thralls than a horse.

The thrall culling to take place is definitely not worth having a horse.

It’s given me a newfound appreciation for the environment of the game… Even when helping other people during purges, people who have a maproom as an example, I usually stick to my horse and just ride home instead. I don’t feel any urge to use a maproom at all, which is an incredibly different feeling because the maproom was the thing I strove towards before, just because it made travel easier. I used to make a dedicated spot in my base to place one, and for once I’m incredibly satisfied with the base I have, without it having any room whatsoever for a map room… It’s freeing, in a way XD

Besides that bit, I generally enjoy it. It’s great fun riding around on a horse during a purge, smashing into foes… Or well, my new favourite passtime whenever I ride out: Stab everything I see on my way to my destination… Why? Hell if I know, it’s just fun to come galloping at full speed and jamming a spear into everything I come across.

One thing I could never understand about pets and now horses - why are animal pens/stables so HUGE? It’s basically a breaking wheel for animals - why don’t we have a 3 different sizes of it, like wheels do? The game already have everything you need to build a vast structures, if you can gather enough resources.

As for horses themselves - IMO one thing needs to be implemented, to make them somewhat “complete” - capture saddle - allowing you to strap a knocked out NPC to it and drag him home.

I will - but not for the horses, but for the lovely building pieces and placeables.

I tried the horsies on Testlive (haven’t had time to play Live yet), and I quite liked the spear and bow while mounted. As a left-hander I’ll need to re-map my keyboard to be able to drive my horse with my arrow keys, but based on what I experienced using the clumsy WASD setup I can see a lot of potential for fun.

There’s the keyword for me. Not necessarily the most effective tool available, but something new and fun. To me, this is a game, not a competition, so I can just as well choose suboptimal tools as long as they keep me entertained.

I’ll just need to learn to drive more carefully so the horse won’t get stuck on every piece of shrubbery I come across.

I also find it quite funny, that Funcom said in the streams, you need a stable for horses because the Animal pen is so big.

And then you can put 1 in it… 5 stables are for sure way bigger than the animal pen

I am absolutely loving my horse. He has become my new favorite follower.

Of course, I never liked being my followers sidekick so I run without one a lot. So I’m not really losing out by using a horse instead of a fighter type follower.

Oh, and I use a mod that let’s me send my follower home and retrieve them when I am ready for them. So, the horse works great for me

Try someone knocking out with your horse at following you… It will block you. And maybe kill the thrall before you are able too…

But if you can send him/her home like that and then retrieve it, then yeah… Its for sure great. More like how the horse in RDR2 worked.

After testing a bit the horse, it feels really nice to handle, i love it, but i would love it even more if it had enough AI to know when to stop by his own in dangerous situations (a cliff, a wall, difficult terrain, etc.)

As for the combat i need to test it more, i might need to build a training zone because i had many issues but it was fun nonetheless.

What i hated is that the horse is a follower and being that means that he follows you everywhere if you don’t command it to stay.

This would be nice… I nearly killed it by jumping down something way to high   Then some Dogs of the Dessert attacked it and I panicked and ran away

The horse is stalker!!

Yeah, but that is no different than any other follower. You have to manage what you have if you are thrall hunting. Truncheons to human followers, or have them stip following at a distance. Same for animals. That has always been the case.

Now, as I said, I have Tha advantage of a mod that let’s me designate a follower as a sidekick, which let’s me send them hone and summon them back.

Note: the mod allows 6 sidekick’s but I limit the server to one.

I was concerned this was going to happen. You can verify they’ll trample a new slave on the rope? Absolutely haven’t had the time to test it yet, and asked about it upthread, disclosure lest I be suspected of repetitive repetition.

No, running home beside the horse was no problem… Knocking out Lubia (T4 dancer) itself was kinda the problem, when the horse blocks you…

Horse was only level3 so the dmg to a Sepermeru T4 wasnt that great.

I will say, they definitely missed the mark by not allowing us to sling them on the back of the horse like in Red Dead.

Huge missed opportunity.

Just found another Option:
Like truncheons, the blunted javelin can’t be equipped while on horseback.
However blunted arrows work just fine!
(at least until the next patch hits us)
