When I got this game in January of 2017, I did so mainly because a magic using class was supposedly in the plans for development. What happened? I realize I am in a minority, I only play single-player, I love to play God in a CGI world. I love the game. The first Conan movie with Arnold had a “Khitan” sorcerer, was just looking forward to it in this game. Thanks
I would love to have a mage class, or even if it was like, a wand/staff item you had to equip or something.
I agree I was one of the people that was excited for sorcery as well. I don’t have a quote but I believe their plans for player sorcerers have been cut from the game. We can build magic-like items such as the portal map or some such but actually flinging spells seems to be a no-go in favor of polishing and developing what is already in the game.

You are correct. How about a way to create spells? Maybe once you gain corruption, you could harness that to use magic. Remember the sorcerer in the Conan movie lifting the stone door with magic? Whether it was magic, telekinesis, or who knows what, I want to build a character based on that guy. Again, I in no way wish to detract from the as is, I wish for what was eluded to from the beginning.
As far as I remember, they have sorcery spells mostly(?) developed, but they are missing a quality Fx artists for the spells as well as the whole process of acquiring and using spells. The groundwork is there but they didn’t have the time to dish it to us in a complete form so it’s been put aside but as they have said before, when it does come it will not be paid DLC so that’s good.
There are mods with spells already it’s just a little basic. I used a “lightning spear” spell that when you attacked with it the only attack it did was the “throw” animation of a javelin and the spell did ok damage (mod). Another was a glowing axe that had 1 durability (broke on first use) and did 300 damage when you struck with it. Some modders got quite creative but there is a lot to sorcery that I’m sure the developers want to express in full value rather than hand us some basic casts that take no effort to learn craft or use.
It would be cool if they actually made it where you had to go through the proper process of gaining magical abilities through rituals sacrifices and aligning with different gods will unlock different ways of learning and also unlock specific kinds of magic and made it an actual process to learning how to use and control magic instead of okay here it is.

Conan talks about the stench of magic the war maker talks about magic to create the sand storm so maybe finding old tomes from the ancient civilizations idk just a thought?
The way I imagine magic in the conan universe is something along the lines of an alchemist. Using concoctions to solve problems, kind of like the old MacGuyver series. In Conan Exiles, I could see one on a firebowl cauldron brewing up smoke bombs and the like to debilitate and crowd control opposition.
This game doesnt have classed, I would much prefer it in the realm of alchemical recipe. The demon fire orb is a great example of this. It’s a dot yes hard to hit a moving player but works. Gas orbs is an aoe dot but can be countered with a mask. If they add a corruption orb it would be a debuff or as some would call it curses. There is a lot of things that can be done.
Yes this game doesn’t have classes we know but you can play and create your own class by following certain archetypes and only doing certain things. If they do implement some sort of magic I don’t think it will be orbs which could be cool I have a feeling it will be magical items.
I remember a dev stream where Joel and Jens discussed the situation briefly. They talked about the game mechanics being there with corruption and other things. Since they didn’t go into much detail, I got the impression that they had an artist lined up, but they didn’t want to move to Norway or some other studio snatched them up. Either way Joel seemed pretty miffed about it. I have much faith that we will some day get magic and can’t wait.
