Star metal and it's need

Ok just fyi…I’m not talking about buff or nerfing since bonuses and such are up in the air with pending 3.0. I’m talking removal of star metal tier completely and having the standard top tier as hardened steel(and all weapon and armor recipes switched to harden steel requirements) with advancements in learning rare types like obsidian, serpentmen, grey ones, what have you. Pvp or PvE, doesn’t matter because the full game isn’t enjoyed as much due to the rocket to star metal and it kills the lower leveled armors and compares to legendary. My point is star metal is a tier we never needed and cheapens the rest of the tiers and it’s cheesy as hell to begin with as far as just fitting in the lore. It adds value to harden steel again and make legendary gear worth it.

voidforged mace is the best in game as far as I know.

So basically, strip out epic gear?

This one uses star metal for mass outfitting of Thralls.
Especially all of those tasty DLC recipes that save a few feat points before farming fragments of power is easy.

Having control over what the prisoners with jobs will look like, while still having ok enough stats is a boon.
Stripping out Starmetal gear will require a rework of most of the DLCs. To say nothing of the gear used by Cimmerians and Accursed. What a pain. Possibly easier to just nudge the most pathetic legendaries closer to being useful.
And while eldarium and vault gear is the best around, simply removing it is not only going to rightly invoke the gnashing of teeth from those who already paid for and use that expansion… But it’s also just plain lazy.

Can’t be bothered to balance it so let’s just remove existing content from the game

No. Thank you. This one already has hackles up everytime something is “improved” by adding yet more restrictions to the base game because someone’s under garments are in a state of distress around their reproductive bits.

Serpent gear does need a little boost.
Obsidian got one, but could probably use even more given how obnoxious it is to learn the recipe as well as craft composite obsidian.
Black Ice weaponry is almost in a good place except one of those single handed swords could become a short sword instead…

What to do with Serpent gear?
Perhaps add poison? Suddenly the Feroxic Daggers have competition for most effectively weaponize bovine feces!
Mayhaps add some serpent hide armour that functions as an upgrade from the reptile hide.

As for Obsidian… Add bleed? Bump stats closer to Gray one weapons from Siptah? Not all the way mind you, as the Gray One weapons are very heavy and drain stamina like a ~redacted~. However, high damage, high pen, sharp for bleeding and low durability because… Obsidian.
Perhaps Obsidian weapons would be equal to Starmetal but lean more on the pen side than the damage side.

Starmetal, at the end of the day, has a much more narrow and somewhat haphazard spawn window. In solo or low populated servers, it’s acquisition is simple enough (especially on Siptah where it is trivial and inferior for everything expect dress up to Vault gear). On more populated areas it could be a source of contention. Especially if sulfur points are already choked down.

Also, leave us not forget that those meteors lie. They are not for the good of the world.
Er… Wait… Wrong game.
They are so often either empty or simply refuse to crack open.

Lemurian mod :pensive:. Check it, I don’t know if it’s still functional but it was a “dream”. @Wak4863 has lots of videos and it’s almost impossible to find it in his Playlist, yet this video was “love from the first sight” for me. I never felt so less playing in console. I wish all the ideas of this mod to be implemented on a dlc for consoles, it was awesome. If you have the time try to find his video and you’ll understand what I am talking about.

Please god no

It’s still the best in game

I’d prefer not to level up at all tbh. That’s one reason I’m looking forward to transfers coming back.

It was a very nice set this one recalls.

Beyound that, it is difficult to express the disappointment this one felt when the Black Ice building pieces looked nothing like the Frost Giant fortress pieces.
Yes they are dark and imposing…
But they really don’t have the shine this one expected after having been in the Disjunction.

Likewise that Stormglass building uses the hardened brick rather than black ice recipe was a real head scratcher.

But keeping on topic, another set of gear that lags too far behind is the Khari.
Love the wine cellar dungeon. It is tough, long, and has multiple bosses available.
However… as challenging and as RNG locked as the Khari recipes are, it really should be better. Not that there needs to be more of it, but it should be close to Vault gear in stats if anything should.

Perhaps there is a fix.
Give all that volcano gear near Vault stats.
Or at least one or two items of it.
The Ancient Lemurian War Axe is a beast.
Pick an Obsidian weapon, preferred something sharp and pointy, put it on par with that.
Likewise, pick a serpent weapon, something fang like, perhaps the daggers. Boom, same story.

Huh? Transferring is starting on a new server

This is again another oversight of the worker thrall re work. All that gear never got updated

I totally agree, right now without caring for going off topic. If you have the khari recipe for weapons can you remind me if it fixes short sword, I remember taking a “pristine” one, but I can’t remember if we fix a short sword. If it does, please fix it with a good blacksmith, apply Queens venom and tell me the outcome. @Marcospt helped me to understand the power of the void forge Gladius, I believe that there is something “similar” in exile lands. I could test it on single player, but I believe it’s funnier to do things when playing .

Which is tragic because it should be so very awesome. In many ways, the Wine Cellar seems like a Proto-vault.
Contained dungeon.
Boss at the end has an RNG drop.
To craft the recipes learned in there one must farm the materials dropped in there.

Also, Khari gear looks pretty nifty.
Most unfortunate it never had a Heavey armour set and thus was basically a non starter for thralls.

I was a very big fan of the light khari gear

This is one of the reasons I brought this thread up. I start fast leveling with mounted fish or carpenter benches or whatever is the current methods to fast level in industrial scale. I grab some spiced recipe from summoning place and head up to stargazer area with spiced whatever and demon orbs. 10 minutes later I come down with average of 3 nodes worth of the star ore and black ice. Head over to the boat and jump into that island. Learn the axe without hitting a thing and go back to the base. I got an axe that is comparable to yogs touch now. I just don’t like star metal tier because it’s too powerful and devalues harden steel as everyone I know skips hs gear completely…heck most skip steel. That shouldn’t be. Time taken to build these in the system…just to be ignored because we have to have craftable gear on par with legendaries? IMHO, I’m good with getting rid of it because of that and rework the gear to harden steel.

I can’t think of one. 70 damage, poison, and an attack that can layer it quickly without large stamina drain

Because harden steel has a time factor that you can’t get around. Iron to steel to harden steel. It literally forces you through the layers of gear so that you can enjoy these and not just skip them. So enjoy them dang it!

On khari dungeon yesterday I collected 500 pieces of steel :man_shrugging:. If you go on new Asgard you’ll get 400 steel bars in 15 min maximum. You’ll tell me hey, it’s rng luck, yes, it is, as star metal luck . Yes I went for star metal in Siptah and I didn’t find an ore, hey it happens. Ancient lemurian trident do not need star metal but hardened steel :man_shrugging:. So either pvp or pve are covered. Hardened steel is easier from star metal and that’s a fact. I can farm 3k steel bars per day (only from drops) , I cannot do it with star metal .

I said transfer my lvl 60 said nothing about gear

This is why I kept saying that PVP players don’t get how PVE players enjoy the game, until @Barnes eloquently persuaded me that they do. It seems like some do, and some don’t.

And don’t take this as an attack, either. I’m not saying anything bad about PVP players, I’m just saying that you guys have different priorities.

As a PVE player, I’ll give you some reasons why I still use skeleton-key legendaries even after reaching level 60 and getting reasonably well established on a server:

  • The Glimmermoon is one of my favorite weapons for PVE content, because I prefer axes for PVE most (but not all) fights and I can use it at night without having to use a torch. I can use Glimmermoon and a shield at night without being blind (or worrying whether I forgot to take Argossean dream dust or nighteye potion with me).
  • The Lovetap is my preferred thralling weapon. It has the mace moveset, which allows me to handle crowds of NPCs more easily and also knock my target down. Plus, I can even use it while mounted.
  • Aja’s Bane gives me +5 to strength, which ends up giving me considerable bonus to damage. I don’t use maces a lot, but they’re very nice against certain things, like rocknoses or wights.
  • If I ever decide I’d like to switch to a two-handed sword or a warhammer, Baal-pteor’s Razor and Baal-pteor’s Lodestone are my go-to weapons, because they weigh literally nothing.

The difference between my playstyle and yours is that I don’t have the pressure to min-max everything. I can build a whole castle before deciding to even look for certain thrall specializations. In fact, I can’t even name bladesmiths off the top of my head, or tell you where to find them.

I’ll stop belaboring that particular point, I think it’s obvious what I wanted to say.

So am I saying that Funcom shouldn’t balance for your playstyle? No, I’m not saying that. I would just like them to not do it in a way that will make my playstyle significantly less enjoyable.

Would removing star metal completely make my playstyle significantly less enjoyable? I don’t think so, but I’m sure there are others who will find themselves affected that way.

There’s a relatively simple solution for what you described, though. Funcom could give us a way to craft those legendaries. In fact, leave them just as underwhelming as they are now, and add two things:

  • A way to “delve” them in order to gain the recipe to craft them.
  • Make those recipes require a material you can only gain from dismantling a legendary item in the dismantling bench.

I’m pretty sure that would accommodate different playstyles. I’m also sure that the min-max PVP experts would probably find a way to make that into a meta that everyone would start complaining about on the forums, but that’s pretty much inevitable
