Bug Description:
Something is wrong with the starmetal meteors on this server. first thing i noticed is that they are not smoking. ive sat through an entire day hunting them, but when i break the shells, using an achoronian pick i dont harvest any starmetal. the blue ore breaks down as i hit it, but i get nothing.
Bug Reproduction:
all of the meteors do this over 12 hours of trying. very low pop server.
Ya, not sure why they did that… specially when you have to haul butt across large section of map to get to landing zone. And even with draw distance on max… No Smoke makes them near impossible to find.
They changed something in 3.0 but it isn’t important enuf to fix. It’s linked to the “Graphical Effects” quality and may be specific to nVidia.
Nope, that is something else and was a while back.
Since then meteor smoke has been removed… period, no amount of driver updates can make it smoke when the game literally doesn’t even attempt to render smoke there
Smoke worked pre-3.0, doesn’t (reduced) in 3.0 when it was released. The referenced post is dated Sep. 22 2022.
And it’s not a driver issue, it’s an in-game setting. Did you scroll through the rest of the post to the images and the explanation provided there?
No… however I investigated it in the devkit… found that it was removed on purpose so it’s unable to smoke regardless of what you do… and then made a mod that actually adds the smoke back and makes meteor showers reliable
So by all means feel free to tweak any setting you want… if you get meteors to smoke on any server with the current patch that isn’t using my mod then I will be mighty surprised.
(the change most likely came with Chapter 2 btw, December 6)
There’s a good chance though that it was a result of either some internal miscommunication or something as it doesn’t make much sense, ofc we can only speculate, but if that’s the case it might be readded in an upcoming patch
Well that absolutely sux. Rather than fix a feature that has been around for as long as I have been playing, 1.x (some version), they removed it entirely?
And yeah, I stopped playing when the bugs kept mounting and they were being allowed to persist. So I didn’t notice their fix.
Oh I edited my post in the meantime but yea there’s a good chance it wasn’t a “100% sanctioned” change.
The action itself is no doubt deliberate since the effect in question isn’t even packaged with the game anymore and the component / code snippet spawning it was entirely removed from the meteors, but the instructions for the dev in question might have been unclear or accidentally introduced some old version no idea… all I know is it’s not there anymore so I had to readd it.
And no, we discussed it not long ago in another thread and couldn’t figure out the “why” either
I found a campfire that smokes and most bonfires still smoke. That is different from the campfires (and meteors) we found without smoke. That may be a built-in sprite plume, but I’m not looking at the code. (I like unity for its ide).
It’s critical for new players (on console) that are headed to the mounds area, but otherwise it’s not. 'nuff said
Yea, I saw one the other day as well, the first NPC on noob river that you can talk to next to the giant bonfire. That one is smoking.
However the meteors actually had their own unique smoke, so it wasn’t the same particle effect being reused, that’s how I know it had to be a deliberate removal.
