Old player here who recently installed the game and have no idea how the community works anymore. I quit around the bori/border kingdoms pvp update back in the day.
I tried to visit Border to Kush during the PvP festival to see if there was any life.
I saw a group of people farming each other to complete objectives. This went on uncontested for a very long time. Later a second group came and starting causing havoc, making the first group hide or logg off. The second group then started farming each other until they logged off and the a new group came to farm each other.
I didn’t see any real battles, more so just one group quickly leaving as soon as any they met any resistance, only to logg back on later. I jumped into the game for several days and just checked in to see the same pattern repeat itself.
I never saw any mini games going.
Is this all there is going on or are there events that I would only know about if I was “in the know”?
Sounds like you’re on Crom (PvE server), but yeah Pvp is now a very niche thing and really only on Fury the Pvp server and even there they use a fight matching app to find each other.
The Pvp ship sailed long ago I’m afraid for those that like that game play. Now it’s really just the hardcore types still hanging in there.
If you are looking for PVP, try to play on Fury. I stopped play on Crom, because no minis, no any normal PVP (duels are dead too).
On Fury you still can find PVP everyday in pvp fest location. Sometimes we have 6vs6 or more. But of course no minis and only Free PvP in location, but this part of AoC still rly nice. Good Luck
I didn’t check population during PvP week. The times I did check there was something like 7 people online in total. Taking the time to lvl to 80 just for some 6vs6 one week per month seems like madness to me considering that there is no other group content on Fury. Add in the time needed to get to a pvp level high enough to do any dmg and it’s even worse.
It’s empty 95% of the time. Sometimes a couple of groups form (up to almost half a raid on each side, at the very best of times) and they brawl for a while, at late EU hours.
With a lot of drama and the quality/balance is debatable (to be polite), but it exists.
Crom has even less than that pvp wise, most of the people who log during pvp week just want to farm (on fury there are farmers too, but most of them will jump on the opportunity to fight at least). Minis I suppose can still pop some days, but don’t count on it.
Ye, I’ve been trying to get mini games going on Crom with no luck, usually 2-4 ppl short. People doing world bosses instead which I don’t understand, seems so boring.
I went on to check on the PvP festival again and I just can’t understand the mindset of the few PvP players left.
There is a handfull of players running around with PvP 10, BK buffs, Rune buffs, maxed AA etc and they don’t actually seem to fight each other in groups. Rather, the dominant group runs around and the other group just stays at the ress pad or does some duels.
I saw a couple of low pvp lvl players who came, only to get melted by maxed out characters in seconds, get discouraged and leave.
You’d think that with so few ppl left they would try to include these noobs in some way rather than chase them off. It seems like the ultimate goal is to be alone in the zone and not fight anyone, just staring into the air.
Nobody signed for mini games either, which is the closest we get to any kind of fair PvP.
Well, i again come back from slack, so last 3 months i play sometimes. Moreover created newbie hox on fury and have fun in 2vs2, duels and sometimes mass pvp (rly rare). Main problem of fury is that you fight vs same people, no new players, heh.
And what do this new players? They just alt farming without trying any participation in mini games, duels, and other pvp activity. If you will attack them, or try ask for duel or smthing, they go out from location. No idea for what they are doing altfarming, but look like most of them only for “10” near nickname.
Moreover, most of them have full t6 gear, it’s enough for minis and pvp, because t1 pvp accessories give same stat than t3 pvp accessories. But they don’t sign minis. They don’t try learn pvp in AoC. When i was noob, and get crazy dmg from sins it was smth like super magic for me, i got oneshots, and after that i started learn pvp in AoC, read about spells and combos of other classes, raise up my skills in duels and mass pvp. This guys don’t do anything of that, they are not interested rly in pvp :\
One of them was a PvP lvl 0 guardian with blue gear, and one was a barb with pvp lvl 2 and no raid gear. Both clearly noobs or very old players returning because they asked me how they can do the quests they got from the pict NPCs.
If this game was alive, you can afford to be all "Oh these new players need to learn the hard way, LIKE ME!!" , in a dead game like AoC that is not a mentality that is fit for purpose. The purpose being getting more players to PvP.
