Stop the manipulative FOMO tactics, and you will sell more in the Bazaar

I just returned to Conan Exiles after two years to find Battlepass and the Bazaar. As usual, I bought everything - hundreds of US dollars worth of Crom Coins, Premium Battlepass, everything in the Bazaar, and I even purchased 30 levels in Battlepass, not really knowing what that would get me. After all, I trust Funcom, because I have purchased and enjoyed every DLC that has ever been released within one week of release.

Then, I opened up the Admin Cheat Panel to start rifling through the items to try-out some of the new building pieces, armor, and weapons. Much to my dismay, half of the items I selected were unavailable. "This has to be a mistake,"I told myself, ā€œbecause I just spent hundreds of dollars buying everything that Funcom had for sale!ā€

Then, I did some reading and realized why I kept hearing about ā€œFOMOā€ in the forums. Funcom, are you trying to manipulate me into buying things? The hundreds I spent today are a fraction of what I have spent previously, and that is a fraction of what I was prepared to spend upon my return to this game.

So, hereā€™s a tip. If you want to sell something, you have to make it available. Stop encouraging impulsive buying. Some of the people playing your game are kids, and some are not in a financial position to spend impulsively.
Others knowingly enter the store with the full intention of leaving the shelves bare everytime, purely in support of a game and a developer we respect. However, that respect and loyalty dies quickly when you openly attempt manipulation to increase sales.

Items should never be removed from Battlepass or the Bazaar, and it should always be an option to purchase cosmetic items outright.

Welcome back @Atali! Yup. As much as I generally avoid buying feom the Bazaar, I have been waiting for the Gibbett to reappear alone for months now. But good luck getting them to listen Atali. They have demonstrated that they are deaf to feesback with regard to the Bazaar.

On my end, I really think they are missing out on having stuff that is ā€œpermanentlyā€ on the bazaar, instead of this rotation method.

And you should be able to ā€œbuild your own packā€, like adding stuff to a ā€œorderā€ and getting discounts, if that happens, from the pack you built.

Not that it would be hard to accomplish that ā€œcode wiseā€.

The most important feature of buying in the bazaar is exactly the ability to buy specific stuff instead of a full DLC for one item or another, but this present system kills that advantage.

They should add a extra tab in the bazzar thats just bundles , that way people can look threw it and purchase what they want when they want , and if you already own some items in the bundle the price will be lowerd .

But thats never going to happen since funcom prefers banning people that have currency at the moment :joy:.

Also jokes aside , they need to fix there prices .

Precisely, I could not agree more. It would make sense to have older items (just for an example AoS items) permanently available, and then just have new items, or those on special rotate. But either way there should be a permanent page/section like you suggested.

Itā€™s also worth noting that you have to be online to actually access anything you purchase from the Bazaar or get from the Battle Passes. If you want to play Single-Player offline, or on a LAN with no internet access, you canā€™t use the stuff you purchased.

Not according to the case it came packed in

Iā€™d even be down with having the discounted ā€˜bundlesā€™ be on rotation, but having each individual item available for itā€™s base price at all times.

There are many times Iā€™ve bought a bundle of items because I only wanted one or two things from it.

Iā€™d be willing to open my wallet again if they did a system where after each age they bundled the Battle Passes from those ages into a deal that could be purchased through Steam similar to the old DLCs, even with a price hike to reflect things such as inflation. Itā€™d have to be accessible offline though, and thatā€™s one of my biggest issues.

If Iā€™m continuing to support a game that I paid full box price for already that is specifically advertised to have an offline mode and LAN support, then I should have access to those items at ALL times when and how I choose to play the game. This wasnā€™t like World of Warcraft or Final Fantasy 14 where it was understood those are always online games. There are videos on the Funcom Youtube page still from when they announced Conan Exiles where we were told these issues would NEVER be issues.

No, it is an open world sandbox game with survival elements. Funcom has never categorized it as an MMO since its release.

Care to substantiate your own claims here by providing numerical data on the ratio of physical sales to digital ones for Conan Exiles, or is your claim anecdotal?

Getting some serious ā€œHow do you do fellow kidsā€ vibes from some of these responses.

Technically, itā€™s only the Bazaar, challenges and dailies affected by an internet connection. All the old dlc packs can be used offline with zero issue.

Iā€™ve stated this elsewhere but yes, it is a very good clarification here as well.

Funnily enough, you just completely wrecked the main argument Funcom/Tencent and others have been using to justify the prices in the Bazaar and itā€™s FOMO nature.

I could not agree more. I warned about this sort of thing when they gave us that creepy survey that was clearly just designed to teach them how best to manipulate us in order to get us to spend the most possible on microtransactions. Itā€™s disgusting.

No one is being manipulated. People buy what they want to buy, donā€™t buy what they donā€™t want to buy. The only difference between individuals is how much responsibility they wish to take for it. Some want to blame the system on some choices they regretted. Which is very common with intangible services like digital ā€˜goodsā€™.

Hereā€™s how to deal with FOMO:

Step 1: Look at it.
Step 2: Shake your head and say to yourself, ā€œNo, I will not participate.ā€
Step 3: Do NOT put in your credit card information.
Step 4: Put the card back in your wallet/holder.
Step 5: Close out the purchase screen.
Step 6: Go back to playing or uninstall the game.

Deviation of any of those steps, ANY of them, is SUPPORT for FOMO. Deviation of any of those steps tells Funcom you LOVE the FOMO. Deviation from any of those steps informs Funcom to keep doing it.

Just put the credit card down. Put it down, put it away.

Fair. Iā€™m personally not terribly affected by FOMO tactics. I buy what I actually like and ignore the rest. And the truth is FREE modded items are generally much better anyway. Just one more reason to never play on officials.

But yes, personal responsibility is important. And yet I cannot but feel utter disdain for the predatory natures of those who deliberately prey upon those with less resolve. Being completely willing to cause people distress is just kinda ā– ā– ā– ā– ā– ā– .

This may be the current game, but donā€™t kid yourself. This is clearly not the original description, with sorcery only being added last year.

@Croms_Faithful is correct, as it originally was described an open world survival game. :point_down:t2:

No matter how you twist it, you should always have access to your purchases. Monster hunter, doom and many other games managed that without any struggle, iā€˜m pretty sure everyone could name some.
Once again CE is one of the few exceptions. And we can see how well that works, half the players are banned!
Why is the game almost dead again? :person_facepalming:

This is very true. We are all responsible for voting with our wallets. Good reminder @Taemien!

Can I just say I like Battlepasses. I know its controversial and all but I do. I also think the fact that Funcom gives us the coins back to buy the next one if the current one is completed is very cool of them.

It sucks that those items are now lost to returning players like @Atali but iirc they did say the battle pass items may become shop items with variations in color and such, so all hope is not lost. But it does suck for returning players.

My biggest concern is the problem when going offline and the bazaar and battlepass items that are not accessible any more. I bought and payed for those items and passes, they are mine. Why does the availability of an online status determine if I can use things I paid for and own? My DLC items still work.

Am I missing something or what is the story here?
