I just died to the Rhino boss again, stuck underneath it’s chin, helpless. This has been going on for years now. I see posts going back to '18. Several of the threads here have community manager responses so I know you’re aware of the problem. It’s shockingly easy to reproduce and I imagine a somewhat simple collision fix. PLEASE elevate this. It’s low hanging fruit an immensely frustrating when it happens. It should never have stuck around this long.
I don’t think it’s a simple fix, as I’ve seen at least five patchnotes about this issue that I can recall off the top of my head. I’m not saying to not report it - in fact, I think the more details you give, the easier it is for them to try to debug the issue.
The last one was noted in the last patch:
“* Fixed an issue where players could get stuck inside a rhino’s mesh.”
I think it actually dates back to 1995…

It’s nice to know they have tried addressing it. On the other hand the repro steps are literally
- Attack rhino in melee range
- Get stuck when rhino spins and tries to hit you
Happens on single player. Happens online. Low pop, high pop. Heavy load, light load. Low ping, High ping. You get the picture.
I was a game dev for 6+ years and am a software engineer now. I’m willing to bet the fix isn’t that hard. Probably just some collision edits during one of the attacks. The problem is likely an artist or designer made some changes and then tested really quick. It probably didn’t get communicated to QA and never got vetted thoroughly. It’s understandable, I’ve been guilty of it myself. Someone just needs to get it fixed though.

Yeah, I’m not sure what the issue is; they might have lost the person who designed it all, and are missing where the collision "gaps " occur.
I agree it just takes diligent testing. Even with that patch note, people noted on testlive that it wasn’t fixed. I think the other issues being raised just ended up getting the focus and it dropped by the wayside… again.

Its safe to say at this point it will never be fixed. I assume this highly intelligent, unparalleled AI system this game has cannot be altered by mortals. The devs have given rhinos the power to push thralls under the earth and trap players under their almighty chin to challenge us like no other game can.
