I have a suggestion for a new DLC to add to base defenses. Purges would be a lot more fun if we had a small scorpion or ballista that we could mount to the craneling wall piece and maybe a agrossean fire slinger craneling wall mount. This new defense pieces could be under the siege equipment area and be taken control of by either the player or a thrall archer. What do you guys think? Wouldn’t it be cool to be on your base wall firing ballista bolts at a huge purge wave?
I think Funcom should just add magic at this point. A ballista? Really? :))
Age of Conan has magic like fireballs and lightning spells. There’s no reason Conan Exiles shoudn’t have it.
How many games are around with fireballs spitting mages ? Tons !
This is often what push me away from some, it has become very generic, and isn’t surprising nor new. Still the same anims to, magician floating slighty up, and poop, a fireball. Nope, please !
I’m not against some magic aspects. But i’m sure we can have more imagination, and new ways to express that.
Also magic shouldn’t be just a weapon more, but have some purpose, some rare users, and of course a cost.
Base defenses, balistas, and such would be fine, and fun. There is still the technical aspect, how they work, and that they will work like intended. But sure, a more active defense, also attack system would be great, still better than offline raiding. But, that’s just my opinion.
Grapples, ladders, towers to push. Sure, all that, if done in a way that is working fine.
I just watched some Age of Conan gameplay. I’ve seen alot of magic in there and it made no sense why Conan Exiles wouldn’t have something similar. Magic clearly exists in the Conan universe, in games, movies and the books.
@cristihan The ballista and battling ram would be less practical in PvE where you can’t raid bases. Adding stuf to the game that would benefit only a part of the player base is bad. However, if Funcom would add raidable NPC bases on PvE servers, that would be fun indeed.
I played on a private PvE Rust server where they had this mod that would spawn NPC bases for players to raid in a certain part of the map. That was alot of fun and I wish Funcom would do something similar to Conan Exiles. Raiding is a fun activity that PvE players never see and the fun stuf that explosive jars and the trebuchet give, is being denied to PvE players.
There;s a pretty great argument to be had that Age of Conan got it wrong, and that Conan exiles got it right.
Magic is the Conan setting is rare and mysterious. The product of a life time of searching and making secret and unholy deals with creatures that straddle different dimensions and realities that we humans can often only comprehend as demons or gods.
It’s also a setting where elements of strange science from distant ages even more remote in the distant past, or ancient beings and species from by-gone eras are themselves only understood as ‘magic’.
In these cases its more appropriate to NOT have fireball slinging mages running around. That;s the hallmark of DnD, modern hero comics and other such things.
The Hyborian era needs no such things, and deserves to be free of them.
TLDR: Conan Exiles is better for not having magic.
I have to admit, I like this. It reminds me of some cool games I played that centered their plot around this type of magic.
Nah, just give us Stygian dlc after 3 years of painful waiting.
Age of Conan is great, and yes has magic. But it’s an MMO, not a sandbox survival. Also again, why in each game having same stuff ? In my mind, magic could be expressed in different ways than just the traditional fire ball and bolts.
How would it look having some Mitra adepts defending themself with fireballs.
Magic should be reserved to a few. I know, this isn’t a popular opinion, sure i know !
In game, most gamers want be king or gods, so this would be hard to achieve. But it’s the creative corner here, so let’s dream a bit.
I am happy with the game without magic. (Not this thread was about magic to start so moving on)
Additional siege weapons would be cool, although not sure you can make enough items for a full DLC. Maybe would be more for expanded items for the game itself. As shown above, you have Ballista, Catapult, Ram type siege weapons. Maybe even a siege tower and ladders (although not sure how practical those two would be in the game since people’s walls could be higher than the towers. And ladders - same issue, plus you already have climbing.
It would expand PvP concepts of siege warfare for sure.
They could add more building parts as part of the dlc, to fill it up. Like proper/bulkier crenellations that extend out from the wall. A 2x3(or something) gate with a raising portcullis. And with arches, stone triangle walls that are missing from arena style…
Suspended cages with skeletons in.
Some spikes with heads, or even better, the ability to put the head of your enemis on them in display.
Oh, Nemedian armor, from Age of Conan, please
And finnaly Stygian dlc
What about a Silent Legion dlc? Throne with piles of skulls at its base, new large carpet, placeable hanging cages from the Black Keep, Silent Legion styled improved furnace with witchfire glow, improved blacksmith also with witchfire glow, improved armory that uses Silent Legion armour pieces, new Silent Legion shield based on Frank Frezetta’s Death Dealer’s shield, new bearded axe, placeable ‘dragon’ skull (t-rex) with a Silent Legion helmet in its mouth, statue of Telith and a Telith outfit.
It’s a good idea, but why do I need those defenses if I am never attacked? In PVE the purge never comes, in Siptah I have never had a purge on the official server playing every day and in Exile the purge has not arrived for months and yes You have the base in the south, the purge is laughable, and if it comes it is a purge every how often? There is really no danger to the base, there are no enemies and there is no danger.
in fact start a thread on the subject, in case you like to comment on other ideas in it.
Because it goes completely against the lore and theme of the Hyborian Age. Age of Conan was an MMO and as such they had to take certain liberties to make the game fit into that genera. They have made it clear that they want to keep this game within the confines of the lore as much as possible so your argument is irrelevant.
To the point of the topic, for base defense you could add things that would help out. A very weak and expensive to use but high damage output option would be something like the Hwacha. Add 100 iron arrow, 100 twine and 10 dragon powder (just estimates) and BOOM!
Or for some more alti-personel artillery there is the afore mentioned scorpion.
A weaker yet faster and easier to craft option to the Treb could be the Onager.
I wish the next DLC would bring more weapon racks with better aesthetics and fancier wooden signs … but it would be better if they added 2 x 2 slot double doors to have medium size doors and please add a drawbridge with a best look.
