Orientation Lock
When building with ceilings & pillars, a common issue I run into is walls wanting to face inward when hanging from ceilings. The same occurs when building atop inward-facing walls, or when placing ceiling tiles with grain, like wood planks, which tend to rotate in strange directions. Having to correct these errors creates a lot of busywork of rotating pieces. On a larger build, that can be pretty arduous. Thus, I would like to propose Orientation Lock, a method to prevent the continuous need to rotate.
How would it work?
Orientation Lock would be activated when using the building hammer to lock the building piece’s rotation. It would lock said orientation in whatever direction it was facing the when key bind was pressed, and will remain that way until the key bind is toggled again. This would benefit walls primarily, but also ceilings and foundations. Having orientation lock enabled would display a small red padlock around the cursor to prevent accidentally keeping it enabled. That padlock would disappear when orientation lock is disengaged.
Whilst this system targets building pieces, it could also include placeables, as there are definitely some that could benefit from this feature.
I suggested this a few years back, but I figured I’d re-suggest the idea with a mockup image, as I believe this is a small QOL change that could greatly benefit the builders out there and save on those frustrating times when we have to spend five or ten minutes just rotating walls or ceilings.
