Surge etiquette šŸ§ - PvE

Greetings!
I wonder if there is a code for what you are expected to do and not when someone else summons a Surge.
I know we do not own events in official servers, even in PvE servers (specially when FunCom will allow any type of building, even when reporting them), but every time I call a surge for religiousā€™ temple items, experience, loot, or recruiting Thralls, people come and have done things such as:

  • Carving corpses for religiousā€™ temple items.
  • Killing Thralls I would recruit.
  • Recruiting Thralls I would recruit.
  • Looting 100% of corpses, even final boss corpse.
  • Running around with foes making it harder to kill them/knock them down.
  • Killing baby animals.
Like I said, I know we do not own the Surges, even when we gather and spend the ??? items to call a level 4 Surge, but is any kind of behavior expected or can you just go and do as you please?

@Wonka Iā€™m going to guess itā€™s about the same as posting on the Forum but alot less supervision. Levity aside etiquette on a server for surge is no different than people building over huge land claims personally I would not intrude into some ones surge or boss battles other than to help. Recently on Exiles went to help with boss crocodile it was killed other player left I got the cheat a spear sent a message to him to come get his Bounty he let me know he had to go for a pee break didnā€™t need the spear unfortunately I doubt the majority of players are like that. Hoping for some positive input from others about this.

I typically try to ignore when others trigger it, and I expect others to do the same for me. That being said, itā€™s not a guarantee, so I TRY not to do it solo to clean it up quicker before others arrive. Also, when thereā€™s a lower population on. I try to respect others simply because I had been part of a clan when siptah first started and we raided someone elseā€™s surge at the request of our clan leader. It became this big issue that ended up with that clan tracking down every one of our bases and building walls around them. Then when we tried to negotiate, they reneged on it and let their clanmate continue to build walls. It was a disaster and @Marylambs and I had to just cut our losses and go to another serverā€¦ especially when our clan leader that instigated it never logged back in amidst all the drama.

So yeah, long story short, respect others by not interfering, hope they do they same, and take precautions to avoid heavy population times when starting oneā€¦ and try not to do it alone.

On a related note, I still have a tcho tcho I named after that clanā€™s leader on our current server that we escaped toā€¦ because he was a dick.

I would say it depends on the serverā€™s rules on it. Lacking that, use your personal judgement, but donā€™t expect others to do the same.

Iā€™ve played enough Everquest to know how people can act at times. Most people will be ā€˜niceā€™ and not interfere in stuff like this. But the moment something valuable is in front of them, all bets are off. Then the killstealing, ninjalooting, and all other shenanigans come out.

@jmk1999 thatā€™s an interesting experience about clanmates. That is something clanmembers need to consider, always know the kind of people youā€™re associating with.

In general I do think keeping to a set of courtesies is a good idea as not doing so always leads to a worse outcome in the long run.

This one abides by the customs of the server.

On PvE servers, if this one happens upon a surge in progress, this one may wander about with a truncheon and knock out some of the surge enemies, and after itā€™s over, ask if the surge summoner is using all of them. If the storm kicks up during the surge, definitely help fend off the storm spawns.

On PvP, this one will wander off with any and all unconscious surgers, opportunistically gang up on another player who is fighting a surge, throw as many gas orbs into the field as possible, kidnap baby animals, blow up any nearby wheel of pain, and bemoan the lack of a twirl moustache emote.
If this one is already in a state of conflict with the clan that started the Surge.
Otherwise, this one ignores it.

There was a PvE-C server this one was on that suggested surges are fair game, unless the summoner spent extra to raise the walls. Walled surges were considered private.

If a surge seems abandoned, this one considers it fair game and may opportunistically clean it up.

But getting back to the point.
On PvE, Private, follow the customs of the server.
Public: Hop in with a truncheon and help out or ignore it. Possibly negotiate for resources after the fact.

I donā€™t recommend this. Most random players, myself included, will feel threatened and think youā€™re trying to steal it. Theyā€™ll get super annoyed. Itā€™s best to just stay back and away. If youā€™re interested, maybe message them and ask if you can help out next time. Iā€™ve actually stood back, sat down, and watched them run around fighting. Lol.

To put it bluntly, if you are playing on officials, there is no etiquette.

People can and will do pretty much anything they want on officials, no-one polices the servers as such, so expect people to interfere, whether you want them to or not.

Feel threatened?
On a PvE server?

This is somewhat difficult to grasp.

But then again, public PvE servers are rarely pleasant places. Itā€™s like general population in a medium security prison yard (which the Exiled Lands are). So the assumption of hostility is understandable to an extent.
There is always some troll swill too cowardly for PvP, but who really wants to ruin someone elseā€™s day.

But point noted, in the incredibly thin chance that this one encounters you at the olā€™ kidnapping sphincter control base, this one will not interfere.

OMG yes, I recently started a new game on a PvE server, itā€™s one I had used in the past, I was hoping server transfers would come back so I could leave. A year later, this particular clanā€™s buildings are still there and now even bigger and somehow even more obnoxious than before.

I wonā€™t go into it now, but I wasnā€™t thrilled to see they were still there, and while I say ā€˜theyā€™ I am pretty sure it is just one guy, whoā€™s effectively made it his own private server; Building in all the prime spots, webbing everywhere to stop others from building, gating and walling off whole areas. I swear removing this guy alone would reduce lag on the entire server.

They get the jeebies at first, but they soon catch up to what youā€™re doing. I always help when I see surges going on.
Usually I go for the enemies you canā€™t break. If I knock out a thrall, I drag it to the players and remove my binding. They immediately understand Iā€™m helping.

humanity being humanity, i remember when i was a tibia player, when you was figthing a powerful creature a lot of people appears to loot it when you killed it, they didnt move a thing to help, they was there wating to loot you or the monster you was about to kill. It forced the cipsoft team to add a timer to the carcass, to other cant loot it or move it before the that killed. Most of survival games has this mechanic, even tibia in 199x, but CE is an special case lol.

Yeah, Iā€™ve done this kinda stuff in areas. Recently I did it in Sinners Refuge with a newer player. They didnā€™t even acknowledge it and left the area. I said ā€œmeh,ā€ and added another cook to my collection. sometimes people donā€™t understand and they leave because they donā€™t wanna deal with it, even if youā€™re trying to be helpful.

The threat is usually because you canā€™t fight back. People know this and they swoop in and steal stuff. So even if youā€™re trying to be helpful, people may not catch on. Iā€™ve even ran over to them and swung my weapon, basically telling them to leave when they interfered with mine. I had one player actually message me and apologize for it. I told them it was fine as my clanmate messed it up when activating it anyway, but in the future to just ignore them unless asked to join.

Not a surge though. Too expensive. They stay. But what you say is very accurate in most situations. We should have a general chat or something.

God bless you @Wonka, thanks a million! Years now when Siptah started i begin on 8013. Back then everyone was curious about surges and i just couldnā€™t have a surge alone. I end up playing on single player to learn what surges give. So i fixed a topic giving my feedback about Siptah official asking for a way to isolate my surge. No matter the cost i would do it.
But tbh, back then i didnā€™t knew how to farm a tier 4 surge in half hour . When i learn this detail, somehow everythingā€™s changed. Not that i still donā€™t want the option to isolate my surge, no matter what i would love to have this option, still!
Now.
How do we farm tier 4 surge in 30 min!
Sigils of gremlins - goblins, an eldarium sickle and off to the fractured citadel. 2 times the liogor and two times the blood moon beast, itā€™s six shining and six greater which is 900??? . Killing the small one ones too youā€™ll get for fun 50 normal (x2) so there you go 1000??? in 30 min.
This way getting a tier4 surge literally costs notging. But back then it took me weeks of farming ??? to have a tier 4 surge, so ā€œloosingā€ it from others was really devastating.
I miss you brother :metal:

Bundles into Stelagelā€™s surgeā€¦

You also have to understand that many newer players may not know how to farm efficiently. It could still be annoyingly expensive just to have it stolen.

In my opinion when someone else wants to involve in your surge, it is all about agreement and stating, what the other player can do, because the surge summoner is the one who makes the rules in that moment. It was his hard work to gather ??? and if others are not invited, they should never involve in the surge of someone elsesā€™s without asking.

In my opinion the acting you described should and could be ā€œokā€ on PvP, but IMO when someone does this in PvE, he is an a-hole.

Well there is nothing easier than inform or ask them during that, or before that. It makes sense some of the players can not read peopleā€™s minds and donā€™t know why are you knocking out thralls summoned by them.

Could be better solution than waiting for them ā€œto catch your idea eventuallyā€
