Of course you have some evidence, facts and/or statistics to back this statement up right? Oh wait you don’t, you actually just pulled it out of thin air, (some would say a certain orifice).
I can play this game as well, HUNDREDS of people banned so far have been innocent and had their bases WIPED for NO reason. Ooooh look how evocative and provocative my statement is and I said it with such conviction it must be true!
Lets get real for a minute, humans make mistakes, the more grey and the more open to interpretation a set of rules are, the more mistakes will be made. Players are making mistakes because of these farcical rules, the IT staff doing the wiping, (who most likely don’t even know what Conan is, let alone play it), are making mistakes and you can bet your bottom dollar any automated system coded by humans is making mistakes as well.
e.g. Ooooh a player built one foundation block too close to an Obelisk, what is the automated system going to do, delete everything within a certain radius of the Obelisk and call it a day, or delete every connected piece and foundation and wipe thousands of man hours of work? Which do you think the current automated system does?
The only way to combat these mistakes is to have a proper system in place that allows for reviews of complete wipes in non-obvious cases, (under-meshes, hackers, spammers, etc). If you can’t spare an hour to review a build that has had thousands of man hours put into it and/or you just don’t care enough about your player base, then you don’t deserve to be in business.
Now for the real kicker, (and I am sure this has been covered ad-nauseam before, but this is my take on it), why have large builds been acceptable for 4 years plus and all of a sudden they are the coming of the Four Horsemen and the Apocalypse? Is it because the majority of the players complained to Funcom about it?
No, that’s not possible, the majority of players don’t communicate with Funcom and hence Funcom can never know what the majority wants. What you have is a squeaky wheel of a minority of a minority of complainers, nerfers and wanna-be game designers that a) usually don’t know how the game really works and b) are just throwing tantrums. Game design by forum warriors has been proven over and over to never work.
So many people are so eager to make sacrifices, as long as someone else as is being sacrificed.
P.S. Funcom fix your servers, stop using archaic technology provided by bottom dollar providers who barely provide the absolute minimum functionality. And STOP blaming the player base for your poor back-end decisions, you’ve had 4+ years to upgrade the back-end and instead you are going backwards. Why was the original back-end setup for 70 slots? Why do we still have a maximum of 40 slots? Why does a 2012 four core laptop on a 100MBit up/down link run a 60slot server better than an official server or a G-Portal server? So many questions, but never any answers…right?
