Swimming - Sinking Feeling & Bitiness

I thought about this when I last swam across Buccaneer Bay in my Silent Legion kit (as one does).

Why in Crom’s name do players not suffer any issue swimming fully clothed, covered in metal or otherwise encumbered? Makes no sense to me.

I have tried swimming fully clothed (fell in pool) and it ain’t easy. Wearing anything heavier than cotton and you kinda sink (gravity sucks).

@Tascha @Jens_Erik @Ignasi - next patch: The moment anyone leaps into water, and have to swim, auto-stripped down to ‘bare essentials’. As a bonus, all the players that use water to escape to, or to sneak up on bases, will have to be able to tolerate the water temp and also have to re-equip when back on land?

Piranha exist for a reason too…as do anaconda and crocodiles. As mechanics stop croc and snake deep-water excitements, perhaps piranha can go deep-water bitey bitey on the dangly bits sometime soon instead?

Same reason why I can carry 200 kg of rocks, wooden logs, food, furniture and weapons in the Eega Beeva pockets of my loincloth, maybe? And I can stuff the loincloth into the pockets, too, when I want to feel the wind in my nether regions, and still keep carrying the 200 kg of stuff.

I was actually thinking the same thing.(ironically at Buccaneer Bay grabbing some gold and silver) The amount of tension and suspense it would add would be amazing. Maybe with an underwater dungeon in the works we can start aeeing some of these ideas implemented!:shark:

They couldn’t get underwater pathfinding for npcs to work. That’s why there’s no piranha or barracuda (way back at the launch of early access there were screenshots of barracuda that looked terrifying).

Carp happens.

maybe piranha doens’t need any model to work, just add some debuff zone that damage players who swim inside

Point taken, though I will say, speaking for myself, I do have a magical loincloth that can carry a ton of stuff  We will not discuss cavities or the like.

I’d be okay with having decreased speed, significantly greater breath depletion rate while under the water and the perk ’ sinking ’ added to those who wear heavy armour while swimming. Sinking perk would drag us down toward seabed and we would need to stay above water to not drown.

Is there a drowning animation in the game?

But you’d be wrong. It’s easier to swim underwater, you’re faster and you spend less energy to swim the same distance as in the surface, provided you can hold your breath long enough.
And the op is wrong too. It isn’t difficult to swim fully clothed even if it isn’t as easy as swimming naked or wearing a swimsuit. If I was able to swim in full combat gear without drowning, I don’t think a CE character in full armour should have any problem doing it.

It the game was completely fix cool but I’ve crashed underwater and died and when I got back couldn’t find my body lost everything so no for me

Gear on you adds to the mass going thorough water. Inanimated gear you carry adds motion resistance. Unless you carry something that floats, it all adds to the difficulty, and even this may not actually help you. You can swim to a degree, but there is a breakpoint when it comes to efficiency and fatigue.

Have you tried swimming while wearing a full plate gear with all the layers in place, a backpack filled with stuff and a two-handed broadsword in hand, overcumbered to the letter, trying to get all that stuff to the other side of a huge lake without losing any and keeping your head above water coz you’re not efficient enough to tolerate underwater motion? Likely not. You are like a sponge with all that relatively inflexible stuff on you and a phobia going underwater. Question is, do you even want to proceed. Likely no. If there’s a dry path to the other side, it’s likelier that you’ll take that instead.

It’s not the stuff on you that drowns you. It’s your lack of physique and mentality to carry over that stuff; you are your bane. It could merely be easier to swim underwater, but you’d need to be fit and my character isn’t that fit.

So you expect funcom with a small team still working on Conan Exiles to do all this when it’s not needed?

Some think that devs could focus on an upgraded version. CE2 maybe? With a better engine.
