But they harvest automatically as long as you’re somewhere close enough for them to render. The damage on crystalline golems is probably more mid-range I’d say. And the walking speed doesn’t matter that much, considering followers are tethered to you. They don’t need training or food and can be mass produced as long as you’ve got the supplies.
Yep, they are fun additions to the overall game. Players always have a choice on what thralls/mounts/pets/automata they can use - or not. I have one player that has chosen to max out on bunnies and cats (allergies go off just passing their base).
Although PvP would love all game additions to be that magic item to ‘end all battles’, ultimately it is individual gameplay that decides that. It’s a game. In my opinion, a very enjoyable game with its breadth of gamplay style options.
I choose not to defend my base/self with cats, but at least I have a choice - oh, and Funcom, whoever your new designers are, Wow! The variations and ideas - excellent! They deserve a bonus - or at least a biscuit with their gruel.
680 is Crystalline golem armor.
Now then since most of you pointed out the special heads let’s look at them in full set for Iron and stone.
Stone Golem default all stone parts.
Health 9000
Armor 320
Stone Golem with Explosive jar head with all stone parts. Jar head is classified as stone.
Health 7920
Armor 272
Iron Golem default with iron parts.
Health 14000
Armor 440
Iron Golem with Radium Guardian Head with all iron parts.
Health 13832
Armor 440
Iron Golem with Lightning Rod Guardian head with all iron parts.
Health 12770
Armor 388
Iron Golem with Lotus Burner Guardian Torso with all iron parts.
Health 13125
Armor 414
The best support golem combined would be Iron Golem with Lotus Burner Guardian Torso and Radium Guardian Head with all iron parts.
Health 12957
Armor 414
Not really sure where you’re going with this, but…
Just pointing out the lotus burner and other head weakness. Another reason for why golems should be repairable.
Just make a new one. Freshly “repaired”
Is that all? Why not be able to repair them? Makes more sense.
Why Golems vs Thralls?
Why not Golems vs braziers or earthwares?
Anything weaker than RHTS is not a Thrall, but decorative NPCs one can put in their PVE bases to show off to friends.
When people complain about golems it’s always compare to thralls. Decorations can’t move. Golems can.
At the risk of being irreverent, much of the golem discussion does suggests the great Terry Pratchett’s Golem ‘Anti-Defamation Leaqgue’ intervention in ‘Clay Feet’. Well worth the read.
Not true. When I complain about golems it’s because I don’t want them to exist because they are too high fantasy for the Conan Genre.
Golems aren’t that high fantasy. They’re basically little more than animated statues, which I think already exist in Conan lore as well as Conan Exiles.
Honestly, you could argue that in some ways a giant spider is probably more high fantasy than golems.
The 20k golem health is crystalline golems only. There armor is 680. Wear heavy armor over 680 armor value isn’t that hard in this game. By the time you fight these pathic in response and movement speed the player and thralls has hit the golem 4-5 times each. Golems speed sucks.
They are in the Conan lore. Read the books.
Not like this. Re-read the books.
I would agree, except that as the descendants of Robert E. Howard (his son or grandson) have said that the Conan genre also includes media produced after Robert E. passed on.
Stone golems popped up in the comic books back in the '70’s (under correction). As per interview in Funcom stream way, way back between Joel and said decendant, the Howard family are very happy with the way the Conan Exiles game has stuck so close to the genre.
ps: Elves, Fairies, Orcs and the like? No!!! But it is a game and I am very pleased to see how well other genres can be integrated into it via the amazing Modders out there.
I don’t think Robert E. Howard had any children. His father inherited the rights to his literary legacy. Howard had very few close female relationships, with the notable exception of Novalyne Price Ellis, with whom he “dated casually”.
Golems aren’t really just high-fantasy, either. Their origin is in Jewish folklore, and have been described in various religious texts for centuries. The origin is assumed to be in how God created Adam by shaping him out of clay. The golems in Conan Exiles may be somewhat fancier than the Jewish clay statues, but basically, it’s just the material and aesthetic design that varies, but the concept is very similar.
I haven’t had enough coffee today, so my memory isn’t working at full power, but I don’t remember any actual golems or golem-equivalents in Howard’s original Conan stories. But, considering how much Howard drew inspiration from folklore and mythology, it doesn’t sound like an idea he would never have used in his Hyborian Age.
Heavens t’ Betsy and small, hairy rodents - you are correct! I genuflect at your feet.
https://reh.world/articles/history-of-ownership/ I shall start digging back through Joel’s Funcom releases those years back to check exactly who that was (I don’t have his fast-dial number so can’t ask him himself).
Having just lost a Crystal Golem to a peasant with a starmetal short sword, I am now 100% anti all golems and other in-game automatons!
