Thank you for the new reporting update Funcom!

Hey guys and gals, wanted to let you know if you didn’t see they updated the reporting form with a new reporting topic , “False Reporting”. I realize I am late by a couple of days of this being new, if any missed it :

https://forums.funcom.com/t/review-and-update-to-the-official-servers-terms-of-conduct/198227

I really hope this helps curb reporting being used as a raiding weapon. Again thank you Funcom for this I for one will be letting my friends know this is available now.

I have a concern about that. Let’s say I see your Funcom ID in the player list, and then I decide to spam fake reports about other players, but I put your Funcom ID in the form, as if you were the one making those reports.

What happens then? How does Funcom know whether it was you or me or someone else? Will they ban you? Will they just silently ignore reports from you in the future?

Good point there. I guess they could go the authenticator route though that could be a pain.

Yea, I just looked at the form as I never reported anyone.
Here it is in case there are others who didn’t use this feature:

Basically the “your funcomid” field is a simple textbox and you can type anything in there…
It would be nice if you had to log in first before reporting someone and maybe have an exact character selection based on what characters you have on official servers, forcing you to select the one you’re trying to report with…

Likewise I was never one of the people fighting for or against the wording of the ToS… however seeing as I noticed a fair amount of post surrounding that, I read this new version and I have to say, in my completely unbiased opinion (I don’t even play on official servers and never dealt with any reporting / bans in this game)… I think it’s just too soft… even the wording is way too careful…

If someone falsely reports another player with ill intention to try and trick admins into deleting that player’s assets for no good reason… then that in my opinion is one of the worst offenses a player can commit and in cases where it can be proven, deserves an instant no questions asked BAN… not some “warning” - but for that to happen the above issue needs to be solved for starters and probably a bit more thorough investigation of reports is required…

At the very least thou it could be worded a bit more “threatening” to put off players from doing it

YIKES! that’s an issue.

@Community Can you relay this to the Zendesk/ToS teams to see if a solution like a Funcom login and password can be done?

The best way to do this would be to report straight from the game, preferably sending the report from the client to the server, and then the server sends it to Zendesk or wherever they want it.

Even sending it directly from the client to Zendesk could be possibly be spoofed.

My guess is that this is work in progress because now we have this:

Not quite there yet but still …

Oh, that would be awesome! And I’m not talking about reporting people. It would be really nice if they fleshed this out properly, so we could report a server problem (e.g. a zombie server) without going through the Zendesk form.

Ingame reporting like the bug report above would be amazing. Also having active GMs like in WoW or others who can immediately pop in and deal with an issue in real time and not several days or weeks later would go a long way to stopping cheaters, greifers, and other problems.

I don’t remember which stream it was but it was relatively recent, where they said they didn’t wish to tie FuncomID to a sort of verification process. They considered it to have more cons than pros to have everyone need to present an email address, verify, and have password (and encryption/hash for those) for players just looking to download and play.

With that said, that stance is going to make it impossible to verify who is making a report. Thus taking actions against false/malevolent reports is something that is going to be incredibly difficult if not impossible. Maybe they have a method I don’t see, but I doubt it. So if they’re going to take actions against false reports… well good luck to everyone for that.

They could make the FuncomID on the report only visible once submitted to the Zendesk Admins and anyone else looking at the report would only see a empty box.

What do you mean anyone else looking at the report? The only people who look at the report are the person who submitted the report and Funcom staff. The problem isn’t that someone else can see the report, the problem is that everyone can impersonate someone else.

Well, in general, you should still write your mail. They MAY check if it corresponds to this funcom id. But there is a feeling that they don’t check any of this.

They should start BANNING for fake reports. I put together a clan to fight back against the alpha clan, and they just brought in a speedhacker to run around with us. And they report US. I got a permanent in 2 days! Since I had the video, permanent appealed, but the base is already deleted. And most likely most teammates do not even know how to ask for an appeal. Surprisingly fast processed their complaint (2 days). This clan has a huge storage spam on ice lake. My report has been hanging for a second week.

I haven’t played WoW for many a year and I never had much need for GM assistance when I did, but the few times I did need them, response time was in (at least) double-digit hours, never ‘immediate’. I know what you mean though.

double-digit hours, not double-digit days

Which is still not immediate. So if you’re currently being raided it won’t do you much good.

I still think in-game reporting is a near-must and obviously faster response times would be great. I’m just saying to be realistic: even in a subscription based game like WoW, assistance is rarely if ever immediate.

Greeting everyone,

Please be aware that the in game reporting system is not final and we are still working on improving it.

We are taking the opportunity to test it even more now that 3.0 has been releases on TestLive.

Thank you for your patience and understanding while we work on this.
