Some call that winning. Others dont. The clans that attack people just starting arent on 24/7. There are ways to outplay them, to outlast them. My example of that goes all the way back to EA, where we fought a Chinese clan who put us in the desert with stone weapons and tools every single day. We kept going, kept fighting, and that war we had that spanned months, was among the best times we had in Conan - the drive to survive, overcome and win.
Some people might not see it that way, they want to get on a server, build resources, get multiple sets of gear, and then square off on the battlefield like 2 armies in the medieval ages, with the “winner” being the last clan standing.
Being outnumbered, outmaneuvered, outwitted, etc. is part of competitive play. I can live with that. I’d have no hope against Kasparov in a game of chess, but at least I’m able to move my pieces until the inevitable defeat. That’s different from a situation where after setting up the board Kasparov would just tell me “you lost”, shake hands and walk away. The end result would be the same - I lose - but in one case there was a game, and in another case there wasn’t.
It’s a waste of time and resources to invest in a game you don’t get to play.
Like one has a lot of verticality and requires a lot of thought into traversal (zip lines etc)
Another is entirely desert, with very limited water (lots of fighting over water of all things)
It wouldn’t translate to Conan perfectly, but it’s a start.
Something like an oceanic map with islands (like I said), or a single gigantic island with limited building area (say only on the coast) with ultra-deadly but very rewarding jungle center.
A map with a very very large and populated city with NPCs just ripe for looting. Add some kinda reputation system so “bad” players essentially play bandits living in surrounding hills. Have NPCs hunt criminal players down.
But we can agree that some people also like that challenge. That’s the “survival” aspect to the game, or at least sometimes it is. It’s extremely rewarding to overcome and win in situations like that.
I think we’re still talking about different things. You cannot win if you cannot play. The challenge you want is playing against Kasparov. The problem I describe is Kasparov telling me that I don’t get to play the game.
Of course, in Conan Exiles you cannot be hard-locked out of the game (at least not legally), so the situations where you cannot play are not the whole game.
But imagine a server where there are PvP clans camping at all desert spawn points. A new player joins the server, creates a character, and is instantly murdered. Respawns, is murdered again. Repeatedly. There’s no challenge to overcome because you never get to really enter the game in the first place. Every time you log in, you just die. Every time you respawn, you just die.
(Apparently this was a problem in EVE Online at some point. PvPers basically prevented new players from playing the game.)
A few months ago Funcom disabled their services in specific countries and regions for a few months or so. Since that time they removed the block only in certain countries.
Players with full ist of DLCs, BPs and Bazaar purchases were hardlocked from playing the game by a pop-up. They couldn’t play online nor single player. So players can be hard-locked out of the game even if they never cheated or played online.
No we’re on the same page. That kind of game play sure does wear a person down, to the point games aren’t fun.
But as someone whose been through it, there is nothing more rewarding then winning that fight. It can be done. It won’t take a day or two, it might take months. Play the long game, learn their online hours and numbers and adapt.
I understand not everyone can or wants to do that, but there is great rewards for doing so.
Anyways let’s end it here before the you know who’s bragging about flagging all my posts flags our conversations for off topic too.
Yep, but it should be the Age of the Roll-back. Pre-Sorcery for all, folks. That’s what the game needs. No more microtransactions, back to the pre-overhaul game mechanics, get rid of the silly magic and fatalities they added… back to the golden age of CE.
Why do you think more then a very minor minority want the game rolled back?
If you’re so hot to play the old version, you can, you know you can, you’ve been told repeatedly how to, so go do it. Or is that too much trouble for you? But you expect funcom to do it for you for free
I want funcom to have active admin on the public servers, and I am whiling to pay for that; as well as a few others.
Funny how your “golden age of Conan” is when I quit the game because it was stagnating.
