The purge is a frustrating mechanic

So take all the risk out of the game and your good? Go play moshi monsters or something …

Perhaps you can find a PvE server that doesn’t have offline purges…?

This was the original intent. They were going to do this. When people heard they were going on vacation BEFORE the 500 patch. The vocal minority created about a dozen threads.

Funcom’s mistake was listening to them. So they pushed out what they had, figured they could fix some stuff before heading out, and missed it. They knew what they did, and it was on purpose. Now they can point to this event whenever someone cries to rush them on patches.

They can say, “well we did that for the 500 patch and it didn’t go well, so your patch will be ready when its ready now.”

The vocal minority is always the most important people - to ignore!

Purges are important to remove old buildings and building spam. Offline purges and online purges are part of the game, they only attack during event time. IDK what event time is on PVE but I assume it will still have one. If you build with enough defense and walls etc you will not be destroyed offline. give them lots of foundations and walls they can attack with no consequence to you. Outsmart the AI.

Having offline purges become announced globally would create dynamic community events, while increasing base survivability for those offline and making purges appear less rare.

It also encourages people to visit other people’s bases, and itneract with one another cooperatively, and observe their servers in ways they’d normally not have without a waypoint. This would truly be “PvE”. And would also add an additional layer of strategy in PvP.

There is a lot of untapped potential in purges.

That’s not their purpose.

that’s your opinion

The only problem with purges is how they bug out between waves or mobs get stuck somewhere and it doesn’t advance.
Thralls not attacking is a different problem but makes purges become an offline nightmare.

Building a ton of foundations to wait the timer out isn’t a fix for this it’s just a work a round/cheesing it. Albeit it is a sound strategy, it’s still a cheesy way to do it, I’d rather a proper fix.

Fixing the thrall AI would actually alleviate the offline purge problem for the most part.

Disabling offline purges is not something I want permanently implemented but temporarily untill they fix thrall AI I wouldn’t be opposed to.

I’d also like a purge now button even if it only was available once purge meter is completely full and only brings it down to that line.
Or not at all, atleast people could experience purge without a rng factor that way, but still be in the cross hairs for the random ones.

I would use a purge button to attack people I don’t like and get the named thrall. this would be fun for me

Well that would be interesting, get the purge to do your bidding lol

I already use world bosses to do it so this would just add more fun for um trolli… er I mean attacking other people

And since base Thralls aren’t really defending anyway, its so easy to do. Its actually kinda funny to watch a enemy’s base getting obliterated by some world boss and his guards are just standing there going, “I’m not getting paid enough to fight that thing!”

No thats not the job of purges, decay is but thay still havent fixed thralls flying around a base thats long decayed and gone.

Purges have many purposes i believe and getting rid of buildings spam is one of them i guess, along with the decay system.
But i would say that the primary purpose of purges is to make late game more entertaining by putting all your hard work in contribution, ESPECIALLY IN PVE which can become boring and frustrating once you have over defended bases all over the map with no real challenge/ action for your thralls anymore (when they are working  of course)
But as “spiralvalve” said it’s just my opinion.

Got purged two nights ago while I was offline again. Had a tier 2 base with fencing. They took out two sections of foundation that were wrapping the walls to my base. My thralls did noting to protect my base again. Bug drives me nuts. Thralls have no health if I am not around them for a while after I login so I know they have no health if the offline purge comes. And, they don’t protect your base. It appears from what I’ve seen that they only attack to protect ME. I need them protect my property. I hope these things gets fixed soon.

They only target foundations and stuff blocking routes to foundations. You could build a base out of pillars and ceilings with foundations outside to use as bait and never have to worry about purges.

When a purge spawns it will attack the foundations only, and then stop once they are destroyed.

YEP 100% true.
That’s why i’m taking care about never placing foundations near wheels of pain, fish traps…etc, all those placeables that i have on the map but are not bases are placed directly on the ground itself…
But you will agree with me that most bases, i mean “true bases” do have foundations. If you try to trick the purge system with pilars + ceilings only, yes you won’t get purged, but how many players are doing that for this very purpose?

Anyway there will be always flaws in video games that some or many players will enjoy to use at their advantage.
personnally i like the way it is scripted with purges about foundations and “non foundations” building pieces, i don’t want my wheels of pain and fish traps to get purged, this is not fun.

I’ve also actually been purged BEFORE the first bar, when OFFLINE. The day right after I got an online purge after waiting for over a month.

Anecdotal evidence as it is, I’m pretty convinced by this and other stories on my server that purges TARGET offline people. What a dumb design choice.

That’s entirely possible. I am offline for much of the purge time. Usually on for the opening of the window. And I get nailed consistently and before my purge bar is even full.
