The Siptah way of Archery

Today we did some testing.
One made himself the best Siptah archery gear (didn’t forget them star metal arrows) and went full accuracy (at 30 vit).
The other made himself the best Siptah melee gear and went full strength (30 vit zero acc).

Well, the melee blows dealt more damage to the other than the arrows - this is somehow expected.

But then we decided to let the melee guy with melee gear take the bow and shoot the archer.

  • Archer 50 needed 14 hits to kill the melee.
  • The melee guy needed 4 shots to kill the archer.

Wellllll… is this working as intended? I mean okay, there is no heavy archery Siptah armor, and the medium ones ended both up having 3 stats (one of them always being agi sigh) so I took Marksman (epic light, t4 armorer ) to get the max amount of accuracy Siptah offers … but … shouldn’t the archer in archery gear be the better archer? And 14 to 4 is not a small difference.

We also tested mounted combat. It was not possible to shoot a rider from the horse, even if you hit every arrow since you drain your stamina faster by shooting than by getting shot.

Don’t you like archers?
If you don’t want people to become archers, why add accuracy to the game?
If you don’t want people to wear light or medium armor for archery, why didn’t you add a heavy one for Siptah?

If they buff archery, PVP players will complain again probably.

I am a huge fan of archery in games and I really want it to be great here. It isn’t and will never be I think, unless we take advantage of some talented modders and play solo or dedicated servers. Official servers are for melee and mounted combat.

Indeed, they always complain if the meta becomes more balanced. But balancing is exactly what the dev should do. Since archers lost 30% armor pen AND lost the reach of the red mother with 30% armor Pen AND lost quivering arrows AND lost hollow bone arrows AND lost Mandibles of Altach Nacha… there is just not enough AP to make any sense in Siptah vs team frost giants / black knights. Archers got 5 nervs vs a huge buff for melee.
We don’t even have dragonbone arrows on the island …

According to the movies - Subotai is the archer.

Add some AP for archers back in, a heavy armor or a knockdown from horseback with 40 acc perc heavy shots (or at least a meaningfull hit to the stamina of the horse).

If we could just make a server setting for PvP vs PvE…

Add in balancing sliders for things like this. Could change many different game mechanics based on it being a PvE or a PvE server. AP on arrows and bows from 0 to 30%. Damage on Arrows and Bows. Weight of arrows. Stack size of arrows.

As always get rid of arrow bounce horrible perk that just draws unwanted agro. Change it to “faster shots” or “better accuracy (if you would normally miss by a hair, it hits instead)”.

Is this really about buffing archery? It looks to me like @Korahan was pointing out a really weird inconsistency (additional emphasis is mine):

So we’re talking about two characters that have the same health and armor. They both use the same bow to shoot each other. One deals more damage. Isn’t it at least slightly counterintuitive that the character that deals more damage with the bow is not the one that has 50 points in accuracy?

The archer is only wearing light armor, so that test is a bit skewed.

Wait, so they didn’t both use the same armor? That changes things. Hey, @Korahan, can you try to run a test where both characters wear the same armor? Just give them both vitality armor, for example.

We have tried dune hunter and marksman with 50acc and both is weaker than 0acc heavy armor. You need hyrkanian or poitain to win an archers duell against a melee. Which seems odd to me. Heavy armor outweights 50 acc which is probably the reason there was the 30 AP perk in the past.

archers have fire spark arrows now they do really good dmg and bleed…

put two stacks of them on your archers defending your base and they will have trouble getting in… lol

there is a dlc heavy archer armor… stats not all that great but they do have one

  • Hmm, fire spark is not (easily) available on Siptah. My clan does a lot of dungeons since Siptah’s release and nobody ever found the recipe. I can’t verify it even exists. Also, the base damage is low and the materials are hard to get on the island, thus I don’t think this can be the solution for anybody playing archer on a PvP server.
    Poison and Bleed also don’t depend on accuracy making them just that good for any melee skilled player as well and therefore these arrows are more of an added bonus for melees than an advantage of archers. It could be a possible solution for archery on Siptah if the bleed effect on arrows was a perk for high accuracy.

  • Yes, the DLC heavy ACC armor is Poitain Cavalier and the non-DLC is Hyrkanian Raider. This still raises the question, why there are 2 vit+strength heavy armors for Siptah but no acc+any heavy or acc+any medium, considering, that anybody in heavy armor would win an archery duel with zero acc against a 50 acc archer in less than heavy.

i can and it come from the goblin and grimlin dungens , i gotten it 4 times from them
