All I want for Christmas is⦠![]()
This thread rather swiftly indicated why celebration of waking world holidays in the fictional mytho-historical setting is an extremely prickly issue.
Not that there couldnāt be some sort of holiday event (perhaps if there is a future Age of the Gods) structure, but letās leave the Hyborian Age and our own cleanly separate.
To your understanding, when was the Hyborian Age time period, specifically the time of Conan?
14,000 to 9,500 bc
Well, there it is. BC. Before Christ. So itās not ENTIRELY seperate.
ANYWAYS, festival items and events are always good. ![]()

Costs money and time . Already took them 3 months to send out a update with 3 things in it , they would atleast need a year to add a santa hat ![]()
It is an Age undreamed.
It occured between the time when the Oceans drank Atlantis and the coming of the sons of Aryas.
But if we want to seriously crack this open, there are two angles.
-
We look at the time periods that the various lost civilizations were popularly considered to have occured during the period Howard wrote the source material. The pulp era of literature loved Mu, Lemuria, Hiva, Atlantis, and other vanished civilizations that were postulated precursors to the modern cycles. By that standard, they would be pre-historic, pre-neolithic, maybe pre-ice age, probably pre Younger Dryas. The Hyborian Age would probably have been coming to a close about 11k years ago.
-
We draw parallels between the styles of civilizations and tech featured and what we now have documented in our own archaeological records. In this regard, rough match ups can be found to many societies from the High Bronze Age of the Eastern Mediterranean, putting itās hard close around 1200BC.
Now, to note, 2 would be a vastly inferior choice except how precisely Howardās notes on the close of the Hyborian Age match pretty well how we now understand the Eastern Mediterranean Bronze Age Collapse.
While 1 would be a laughable can of worms some years ago⦠With the most recent understandings coming out of Gobekli Tepe and other Tepes, and the markings/tooling in Derinkuyu, it becomes a much more fascinating topic.
Of course, this is all the forlorn effort of dating a time period that didnāt exist, that was a fabrication made from a patchwork of many different and non contemporaneous societies and legends. There are Cataphractoi a few days ride from a reverse Vinland invasion of Doggerland (which sank 20k ago by most estimates) and the Mediterranean basin being yet unfilled.
But, if this one must spitball and stick it somewhere for funsies, this one suggests 12k-15k years ago as close enough.
Again, this is just for entertainment, not serious. It would be a more serious matter if we wanted to try to place the component material of the Hyborian Age, because that patchwork quilt comes from many eras.
If, on a massive tangent, we do want to explore where and when there is space to put entire empires that we would not have much record of, thatās a possible endeavor. Many societies had legends of precursor civilizations that occured before the terrible serpent of flame descended and ended the world before.
Brother, I appreciate you and your posts. ![]()
This one is glad if they are able to entertain or engage.
Pass the bird embryo grog, please.
devs cleary said theyāre wont be any events (holidays)⦠probably because of stability issues (more bugs), that why we didnāt have Haloween event (simple asf, just make evil looking moon texture and set free roaming werewolfās) but noā¦
half of random events\encounters are still gone so this is mean NO 2nd time, proofing there wont be any xmas or similar events⦠(for now at least)
Seasonal events would be alright, as long as they are Conan related events, not specific real life events like Easter, Christmas, Halloween, Pink October, Mothers Day, and so on.
If they hold, letās say, an event for Spring, Summer, Autumn, Winter⦠Or even an event a year to celebrate Conanās gods, or an event to celebrate a specific Conanās civilisation (though thatās already what the Ages seem to be inclining towards)ā¦
I donāt know, Iām not a specialist, but there are surely plenty of things that can be done.
This, yes. Yes yes yes.
Raised Catholic here ![]()
Iām not going to get into a religious debate either ![]()
Agreed that thereās all kinds of inspiration out there.
I vote Krampus.
Krampus, but with a Lovecraftian twist.
Iād be down with some Yule-lite sort of festival.
I would politely disagree. The game should not be subject to real world holidays. We do not need to start having Easter, Hannukah, Ramadan, Kwansaa, Tet, Veterans day, Earth day, etc added into the game. Conan Exiles should remain apolitical and free from religious influences. The only events I could honestly support would be those, if there are any, outlined within the lore.
I believe thereās nothing wrong with seasonal festival type things⦠like Samhain or something for Halloween or winter festival stuff like they did in AC Valhalla. As long as they fit in with ancient or folk type stuff, keeping with Conan lore of course. Just because itās a holiday season doesnāt mean the events need to be traditional modern holiday themes.
Ymir isnāt Santa? My thralls will be so disappointed this year
No heās a reindeer.
Iām envious of the majority that get to celebrate the festive season in winter. One year I need to travel to experience this.
Come to this oneās hometown!
The entire city is lit up, there are plaza regions of the downtown area blocked off for Clydesdale Horse drawn Carriages, carolers and other street entertainment, ice skating rinks set up if the lakes and rivers are not cooperative, itās a grand time.
