Thoughts after playing the new chapter for a while

So, the changes didn’t do anything to the steep slope the game has been in for a while now. Still uniteresting, lacks challenge, doesn’t reward you basically in any way so nothing has actually changed. Things were supposed to be done to dungeons, so far i haven’t seen anything but a few spike traps in Black Keep. Haven’t been to all of them yet, though. Most of the chest weapons are trash, so no need to go after them.

The amount of items and food from loot is ridiculous. There’s no need to learn recipes anymore since you get everything from chests so that’s another thing taken away from the game experience. There used to be useful materials like iron, steel and leathers in some chests and it was logical. Now there’s 17 paintings, 5 beds and a fence in a chest, where’s the logic in that?

The world bosses are still a complete joke, they offer zero challenge. There was a time when for example the Judge on Siptah was fairly dangerous opponent for a low level thrall, i remember losing a couple to him. Now i plough through him just like that.

The purge, then. It was interesting at first but got old very fast, just as i expected. Endless lines of fighters who just run the same path, and the reward for winning them is mostly junk. How about rewarding players with some purge exclusive things like in the past? Thralls that have better stats or recipes, like it used to be. Back then purge was worth something. And so what if everyone isn’t able to get the best stuff? That’s the name of the game, survival of the fittest. And it’s even more fun to raid someone for the better gear.

The curved ceiling not snapping on to an outside of a wall issue in the Aesir set is still there, surprise surprise. The issue with stacked foundations is partly there as well. You still can’t rotate the top one in every direction unless there’s one also next to it, then it rotates every way. But if it’s just one on top of another it rotates only in two directions. But it seems that if you are replacing a foundation, then it rotates freely even if it’s the top one so that’s an improvement. Also if you are placing ceiling on top of a pillar, it rotates only in two directions.

Just bring back the old, proper Conan Exiles instead of this pile of goo. Give us back the days when you had to play the game to achieve things, when you had to calculate your attacks, blocks and dodges instead of this endless stamina. The days when you first had to get a taskmaster if you wanted to break a T4 thrall faster and possibly outside of raid hours. This one hour nonsense is… well, nonsense. THERE’S NOTHNG INTERESTING OR UNIQUE IN THIS GAME ANYMORE!

Per another thread I just posted how I’ve been finding the new loot chests as being fun/interesting but honestly you are correct that the amount of higher tier food is a bit crazy. On the “plus” side it is forcing me to actually make steel again.

Generally speaking I agree with your observations (I’m probably a bit less negative though). I am a bit tired of Funcom removing or changing things willy nilly that I actually liked. To your point I’ve lost interest and having a hard time even having the energy to play the latest update.

I’m completely confused as to how they are coming up with some of these changes. Starting to wonder if the lead Dev is just listening to the wishes of a nephew who plays the game

Well, if you watched the community stream today, you know that Funcom’s top priority is debating the merits of pineapple on a pizza. As that is a debate no one can win, they are stuck in an infinite loop and the game suffers.

There was never any need to learn recipes, except for a few corruption-reducing ones maybe. and back in the day when food actually healed, aloe soup was okay. But the dozens of recipes for the foodstuffs with delicious-looking inventory icons never saw any widespread use because the best thing you can feed your fighting thralls is a slab of beef cooked on open flame.

Funnily, I seem to furnish and decorate my bases more often now that I get random pieces of furniture out of loot chests. On the other hand, I spent much of the weekend making steelfire because I can’t just pick up the steel I need out of loot chests and dead enemies.

I didn’t expect world bosses to be changed in this update so I didn’t realize I should be disappointed with no change. Sure, they’re easy, but I’m sure you can still lose a low-level thrall every now and then if you’re being careless. A one-skull Grey One boss with a big hammer can plow through 1200 hitpoints in one full combo. And now that they’ve learned to redirect their attacks midswing, simply sidestepping the combo isn’t as trivial as it used to be.

The new Purge is being developed in stages. Admittedly, in its current state both the implementation and the rewards are somewhat lacking. Curiously, according to feedback, it’s simultaneously too easy and too difficult, so maybe it’s actually just right. I kinda understand why the purge is being released piecemeal, but maybe they should’ve kept the old system active while the new one was still being developed.

Bottom line is, whether you like the new updates or not, Funcom is not going to bring back the 2019 version of the game, and asking for it is a pipe dream. Might be more worthwhile to focus your energy on suggesting updates on the features we have now, rather than ask them to delete thousands of developer-hours of work.

Classic case of game burn out. How long have you been playing?
Not saying you’re wrong. Just sounds like you are disillusioned with the game.

First up, I said from the start hard release dates are a bad thing. Never seen them do anything but make a game worse.
What you inevitably get is on time, half finished, broken updates. Which just makes the developer look bad.
And as much as I want to blame funcom; and do, their biggest mistake was selling out to tencent. This, what we see now, the passes and new events, is SOP for tencent games. What we have now is a Conan flavored tencent game. Eventually the ages will be done and Conan exiles will become another tencent zombie game, just recycling the same old battle passes and the same old bazaar items.

I liked the loot table on the beta server, then they screwed it going live.
I have never gotten the raider [purge] siege to not bug one way or another.

Now I do like kiting bandits back to my base. About the best part of the update. But I’m not playing now. Got a couple demo games I’m enjoying; one is pretty much an open alpha/beta, the other is a time limited server early public beta. Both, even the one that eats GPUs is more enjoyable then Conan right now, and not really any more buggy.

Now is it the bugs; old new legacy? No. Is it the direction the game has gone? No. Is it because of funcom’s regularly scheduled dumps they call an update? No.

It’s their pathetic admining of the public servers and my unwillingness to play on some here today gone tomorrow stacked mods private server.

Also, cause burning out. Cause of limited time.
