Since Age of War chapter 3, thralls often do not face the enemy during combat. This results in them swinging at the air often in the opposite direction of the enemy. If this only occured very rarely, it would be a minor bug, but it happens often. Sometimes the issue persists throughout long boss fights. Obviously this greatly reduces the damage done by thralls and their ability to hold and maintain aggro. Damage and tanking are the whole point of combat thralls, so this bug renders them much less effective than prior to the update.
Oooh I have this issue too. I’m probably not going to play anymore, as thralls are what’s fun for me. I love being agility and up high. I thought the thralls were losing agro because I was shooting at the boss. It felt to me that me getting involved with the fight made them loose agro and stop fighting. I then get the boss and any adds bearing down on me. If I die due to this (squishy build) the thralls do not even defend themselves, they just take the beating till dead. I’ve lost three like this now, two in the mound and one in the castle.
Hello,
Could you please give us the following information:
- Do you play in Single-Player, Co-Op, Online Private, or Online Official? If you play in Official, please send us the server number.
- Does this happen with all followers or a specific kind?
Thank you in advance!
Same here as well. Private server, Siptah. When my named archer thrall switches from a bow to daggers to fight in close, he turns around and attacks in the opposite direction, doing zero damage. Set to prefer range. Haven’t noticed this issue with my fighter thralls.

This is sort of a known issue, basically after attacking once, followers lose their ability to rotate while repositioning and they are only able to do it mid-attack with the new correction mechanic. (also why NPCs “moonwalk”)
If I understood correctly, this part was already fixed internally and will be in the next hotfix in a couple of weeks.
In the meantime if you’re able to use mods, I do have a combatfix mod on the workshop that addresses this and a couple of other current combat related issues.
I have your mod installed but still had a case of an archer thrall misbehaving last night. Fighters seem fine. Obviously the archer died promptly so I didn’t get to test her too much
Other npcs were fine so it was a bit unfair for the thrall!
Looking forward to the official hotfix though I greatly appreciate your mod in the meantime.
