Unable to build in my own base

I was just reading through previous posts, and it seems this has been an issue for more than a year now:

I can't build in my base - says land already claimed

Hi, I built a small hilltop castle on an official PvE-Combat server. Today I tried to add some doors to a tower I built a few days ago, but the game tells me that the land is already claimed. I looked around for the cause and found that a clan had built a new base some distance away, but also placed a couple of foundation stones close the bottom of the hill I built on to mark their territory.
