Unreal Engine is exiting due to D3D device being lost

Type of issue: Crash on startup

I just bought this game and I was having an issue with the game crashing on startup where it would give me the error:

Unreal Engine is exiting due to D3D device being lost.

I searched through the forums and found that it was because I am running the game on a laptop with an integrated and a dedicated gpu. I commonly have to tell the dedicated gpu to run games by specifying them in its control panel, however, that wasn’t working and this game would always crash on startup.

After awhile of tinkering, I discovered that if I told windows to run it in high performance, then the game would work. To tell windows 10 pro to do this,
Settings->Graphics Settings->Browse and select the game

The game now works great. I did not see this solution anywhere, so I thought that I’d post it.

Pentnoir, thanks very much for the tip. I think I’ve seen others, but this is the simplest.
