And if you do it to a player corpse (loot bags are left on the ground) then you get to keep their name and image on the body. (so you could collect your favorite nemisis players corpses and hang them from your walls as a funny little taunt)
Corpses disappear after death. It wouldn’t work this way.
The only way to do this is new placeables, crafted from rope and pieces taken from an enemy corpse, likely heads because they are already in the game.
Use that to make a placeable of what appears to be a corpse of that enemy dangling from the rope.
Ya who hangs heads from ropes… It would obviously just become a graphic only of the players body and not be a real corpse once you hang it. So they could just up the timer to indefinite…
If corpse on rope gets attached to peg THEN create image of body on peg n’ rope. Original body disapears… MAGIC!
Corpses can’t be left indefinitely because that would clog the system.
As for the player corpse, the game engine would have to essentially clone the person’s body after they died.
I would assume there is also the issue of lag on official servers, which are already under a strain from way too many placeables being used.
Having alpha clans sporting dozens of corpses like this, from other players, would probably only wreck things further.
It would just become a decoration… So your saying having 100 walls is possible but adding 1 corpse decoration would break everything. Sorry but I dont really believe anything you are saying.
I got like 50 daffari wind chimes around my base why doesnt that break the game?
Do you play online or offline? That makes a huge difference.
When you have 30-40 players with bases and lots of placeables, it becomes a big problem. One hanging corpse probably wouldn’t be an issue.
The problem is players wouldn’t stop at one. They’d want dozens of player corpses as trophies to show how badass they are.
You can believe what I say or not. That’s entirely up to you.
I guess those 10,000 sandbrick bases also break the game then.
Man i better take down all my windchimes before this game explodes?
I play on official server with 67 ping
Hanging bodies from your barbarian fort IS THE MOST CONAN THE BARBARIAN THING I CAN THINK OF. That and spiked bodies surrounding your fort.
And GIANT skull piles made out of 100 skulls.
And a skull throne.
If they made it so the body wasnt affected by physics and never moved once placed I dont think it would take very much more resource.
then the 5 billion npcs wandering around the earth with specific faces must be really hard for it then. If no player is looking at it then just dont load it.
I simple 3 line txt file could remember what the player looked like and just load it on demand.
The player would be nakd of course so it doesnt have to remember any of the gear.
The performance hit would come because every single time a player character was killed, the script would be called. The only way to bypass that would be to have a specific weapon, the way the truncheon worked, that triggered the clone script.
Once you got past that step, it could probably manage to create a clone corpse using the same visual settings that the player character had. The second performance hit would come, because that data would have to be pinged, every time the corpse was going to be rendered.
Each individual corpse hung would have to ping it’s own unique ID file to govern that specific corpse’s appearance.
It comes across as highly unreasonable to me, that such a thing is possible to include. The impracticality of having unique dangling corpses far outweighs the dedication the dev team would have to take to implement it.
You are right, @zerog in that one or two generic human corpses created as a placeable is a much more effective way of handling this idea. Cut their heads off to give that extra gory atmosphere. That also lets you bypass having to give the placeables a semi-unique looking face.
It would only need to clone a player body double if you roped them. So i dont really believe what youre saying.
And the game already makes thosands of random NPC looks on demand (or is it prespawned with that data already?) either way randomizing it already takes more effort than just remembering 2 lines of description flags. So I already dont believe what youre saying again.
I’d be happy if we could just have generic dried up corpses on sticks like the ones near the starting zone…
Maybe a throne made of skulls, bone furniture… stuff like that. (We can already put skulls on sticks, plus we can put arms and legs on weapon display racks, which we can get from harvesting human remains including player corpses…)
I should also point out we can already make skulls on sticks to put in the ground around our lairs.
It kinda seems like the already have preplanned content for release and just do not want to deviate from that plan no matter what.
At least thats the feeling I get.
You, sir, are what we call an idea fairy. You make an awful lot of suggestions…
Yet, this suggestion makes you sound like a jaded player.
It’s a good business model to plan carefully in advance and stick with the plan.
It isn’t nearly as simple as you make it out to be. There are a lot of unique IDs involved.
As of now, I believe something like this is used:
Base ID - the same for everyone, for this particular placeable
Unique ID - different for each version of this placeable in the game world, tied to the character who placed it.
The trouble comes into having to add a new ID line that points to the appearance data.
@Minnion
That’s probably the only way we’ll ever have this sort of placeable.
Arms, legs, and skulls on sticks are easy. Just have the base look for the item, maybe a couple extra so they can have a little randomization. Aside from that, they are like any other placeable. A base ID and a unique ID created from whoever placed them.
Prolly got 3 years worth of stuff premade and ready to give it to you 3-5 months at a time
Bet its 90% cosmetic stuff too
You honestly are starting to come across more juvenile that more I see you on the forum.
Of course they have a plan to work towards. But like any other development team, plans change as new ideas come to light over the course of time. This is evidenced already with Monster Hunter World, which has been a huge commercial success.
So what if they work to get stuff premade before releasing it? You sound more than jaded, now. You sound more like someone who thinks they are entitled to stuff, just because they demand it.
@Shadoza is right, and it’s something I hadn’t considered. This would be used mostly to just grief other players, by hanging up their corpses so you and your buddies can laugh that you killed them.
I think we are playing two different games. Let me give you a bit of Conan Lore.
