I’m a solo player. I’ve been trying to beat the Arena Champion in the Warmaker’s dungeon, but I’ve failed in two attempts. The first attempt I I went through all the rooms to get all the statues to open the first door, went through, got the next key to open the door to the arena champion, got one shot killed after my lvl 20 thrall died. I tried to go back in and realized I needed the statues to get back through the first door. As luck would have it, a group of players ran through and killed me and they looted my body before I could recover anything. Brutal…
Next attempt I had my magic circle corps summons ready back at my base, I laid down a bed roll, I had previously got all the statues, I loaded up my thrall with meat and took plenty of potions. I got to the arena champion again and gave her distance. I timed my attack for after her combos and rolled away. Her health was almost gone and I went for the kill. WAM! She one shots me again. All I could do is spawn at my base and recall my corpse. My thrall is alive and scouting. How am I supposed to do this solo?
yeah npc with maces are frustating with the current combat changes. cant really read when they start their combo. i think best is to keep her staggered switching attacking with your thrall. you can also skip the arena champion, there is a crack in the wall you can go through before you open the door to her room
The Arena Champion is an interesting fight. Its not simply a harder version of other fights. Its a unique one in its own right. What I have suggested to people in the past is to not use a thrall to fight this optional encounter (optional in the sense you can bypass it to complete the dungeon).
The NPC is designed to absolutely murder thralls. It is designed to be a challenging encounter for the player. Challenging in the sense that it tests your ability to avoid its attacks. Right now that’s a little more tricky due to the NPC’s ability to home and turn while attacking, but the Arena Champion still has its most major weakness. Its short range.
You can still dodge away from its attacks to avoid them. You can still (and easier now then before) use your own attacks to lock her down. This was still possible before Age of War, though with her previously increased health and ability to be immune to flinch it was much harder and more involved.
The Arena Champion so long as you don’t let her connect with her attacks is the easiest she’s ever been. But you still need to put the applicable knowledge and timing into dodging her attacks. But using a decent weapon, you should be able to down her without too much issue with a bit of practice with any sort of build. She is quite vulnerable to damage now.
i beat her just now, naked and solo with weapons i got in the dungeon. I toke the black blade of musashi no al merayah (the stigian castle) entered warmaker and killeed the priests, one of then dropped the mordum (a big spear) use it to beat the champs. focus on her and start poking with the lance, one or two pokes, and she will try to hit you, just do a back roll and when she finish the combo hit more 2 times and repeat, get calm and dont panic if she hits you, backroll imediatelly a second hit will be fatal. Its impossible to tank her in close combat so the combat requires strategy. Forget about thralls to fight her, on before the nerf she was capable of killing then easy, and and now much more fast. Use streng 20, vitally 20 at least, and the perk “gluton for punishment”, i got hit some times it saved me. It recover you last stand of damage taken in 15 seconds. Good luck.
Right now she’s much tougher than usual due to the current state of combat maneuvers for players and NPCs and how it impacts roll attempts.
She can be staggered.
So use a polearm. Even with it’s recent nerf, it should buy more time.
If you are going to get hit, build into grit so you are immune to one hit kills.
As others mentioned, she is a tool for killing off your undesired thralls. A feature from before we had the ability to dismiss thralls with break bond.
She’s not actually hard now (unless you have 0 vitality then I suppose you can get one shotted), she’s a squishy boss. At least for me that felt really easy, because it’s a very short fight (easy to stay focused) and no adds helping her.
Don’t use a thrall (they’re too dumb for such encounter) and wear little to no armour so stamina regen is as good as possible. Just hit 1-2 times and dodge when she starts an attack animation, rinse and repeat. It’s ok to get hit once in a while. Glutton can heal you but it’s doable to get pots off.
If you have a mace or 2h hammer you can hit her a bit more than twice and get her knocked down (well it’s the only weapons I tried, hardened steel, with agi+str+vita build) to make the fight really short.
I chose to bypass her. IDK I’m running 20 STR, 20 AGI, 20 VIT in Silent Legion Armor with an Ancient Axe + Archeonian Shield and Lemurian Spear poisoned. Maybe I’m just getting old and the reflexes aren’t what they used to be. I did run through and get the champion armor knowledge. I took on the warmaker and won. Took forever whitling him down. Got the knowledge from his room too. Now I need armor scraps. IDK why bosses teleport. Like before the update. Why does anyone need to teleport ever? That’s what is making the bosses hard. Poof… I’m behind you. That’s BS.
I just have problems with server lag and my thralls won’t attack. This lead to my partner an me getting killed along with four level 20 Dalinsias in Godbreaker.
With the Champion doing one-shot damage, I have found that it’s critical to control the fight. I use a weapon that does knockdown and make certain my thrall has the same. I will engage to knockdown first, then let my thrall knock down, then jump in, etc. By controlling the fight, I keep the champion off-guard and am able to survive.
Block the attacks with a shield while your thrall pounds away, use poison arrows, healing arrows if they are any better these days and hope for the best. That’s how i do it. To be honest i don’t even bother with her anymore, you get so few scraps that it isn’t worth the risk unless you have an army of thralls at the ready.
If you really need an answer to this fellow exile, allow me to suggest you 2 important things.
every boss fight has a pattern. Learn the pattern and you can defeat literally everything solo, even a lvl 10 purge! When i say however solo, i mean solo, not even thrall.
The reason you should not use thralls on fights it because bosses swift focus and this way you cannot understand how to “manipulate” each boss.
learn how to fight each boss on single player, not online. Single player the performance is as it should be and you will learn all the “gaps” each boss has, so you can use for healing.
Now. Before you do all the above Grit build offers 3 hits window, so you can go full grit too.
Have fun exile and worry not, we all been there, no problem.
Nice to have you around
