Here are some figures from post launch. On a full server after two weeks and 140 hours, a builder/gatherer/fighter in solo mode can acquire 44 levels. After 44 the numbers scale such that you will progress no faster than 1 per day unless you are cranking T3. We can then project it would take a good player an additional two weeks to level to 60 without extensive exploration. On a “hide or die” server, this means soloing to 60 in about 300 hours.
At 44 I sought a skin suit, a falcata and a targe and went on an epic-ish journey. Having only four POI in the North, a few in the Highlands, and the rest discovered in the lower map, I am now 57.75.
And don’t let anybody fool ya. If you don’t have instructions, even with a map you’re only cranking out 3 POI per day cycle sometimes. I thought a map run was a soft option, but heck that was plenty tough and fun.
Bonus, I took on the Witch Queen with an Ancient Hammer, a Falcata and my Darfari Skin Suit. I wonder how that turned out…
I run a 1x server and everyone thought people where hacking even i didnt think it was possible at first so i had to spend about 2 hrs digging and yea doing journeys combined with discovery’s is not inline with the other ways to get xp or the core part of the game for that matter.
You get guys that are lvl 60 in one day and gank and raid all the small noob bases and chase people away from the game.
I always kind of looked at this game as a grind because once you are lvl 60 with a decent base the game wont kill or slow you down only other players raiding you and as long as you build your base correct even thats not a big issues.
It would be nice to see a change in the amount of xp you get from doing them.
On the plus side, it’s great for letting players hop servers if they decide they would prefer a different server. If the minimum leveling time was weeks, we’d be stuck on one server. Plus, PvP only really starts at 60. Any lower and you’re crippling yourself and entering a losing fight.
I think it’s good to make leveling easy this way. But if I could suggest a tweak, lower overall XP on PvP servers by 30%. Then players will need to do more Journeys as well.
As a working father with limited time I say this system works. I know a few of our clan members rushed to 60, but that was because they decided to spend hours doing nothing but running around the map.
Us older guys just played normal and took us a week to hit lvl 40.
It’s all about your play style & how you play the game. No one is telling you to rush to 60, but if you want to go hard then the option is there.
Only *** holes go around raiding everyone and drives people off servers. You need to find the good clans that leave people alone and only attack others when they get attacked. It’s a great gameplay strategy.
If u have 100’s or 1000’s of hours in a game u are bound to know how to lvl super fast, however, i just played the game and it took 2 weeks to hit 60.
Sure i could’ve searched for guides but i didn’t want to. I wanted to play the game. I could lvl u from 0-100 in ark in 4 hours for god sakes.
I heard a vague mention of “something” changing about exploration exp in the recent patch notes but can’t get a straight answer as to what or how bad it is.
The funny thing is, had you read the very next sentence in my post, you would’ve seen, “I’m not saying I want people to be at a disadvantage, but the fact that you can hit level cap in less than a day is troubling for a game made for long-term progression”
To not nerf this is bad because server jump can easily get organized and server wipe in two days. First day lvl grind mats, 2nd day lock server down with all maxed 60 lvls.
I really don’t understand the whole argument here. It’s too easy to get to 60 but people don’t have enough time to hit 60? How does increasing the time it takes help the situation with people hitting 60 too fast and wrecking everyone else? These people are either already 60 or will still be able to hit it more quickly than other people and it’s not really doing anything to slow them down. All you’re doing is removing your ability to catch up to them in a timely fashion and do something about it.
This is a classic case of cutting off the nose to spite the face, and you’ll realize you should have been careful of what you wished for
Eventually everyone will reach 60 and be capped anyway. Any form of power leveling (or playing on a fast xp server) just means people reach end-game sooner.
I’m not sure the game was specifically made for long-term progression.
For some people end-game is where it is at, for other people the game is about the journey to max level.
