There are many regions in the Hyborian world that have potential to be well diverse maps, with lots of lore and exploration.
I do believe that to truly capture the setting they might need to sacrifice the amount of biomes they can add and keep it consistent with the lore and only add what makes sense to the region.
For example a future map I would love if it existed would be one focused on the border region between Cimmeria, the Pictish wilderness and the north Gunderland border.
Gunderland is lightly forested, with some open fields it also has Mount Golamira to the west, which could be a part of it to add variance. It also contains a river to the east.
Cimmeria is a bit similar to Gunderland but is colder, has a lot of mountains and tundras. A bit like Skyrimâs Whiterun province.
The pictish wilderness or Pictland would probably be composed with a mix of dense jungle, forests, coastal plains and beaches if they added the eastern side.
Now I know that in the lore these regions are vast which would be harder to translate in a game but one can dream.
Do any of you have any other regions or areas that could be prime for a new map or the next Conan game?
Yes the Hyborian age is lost to time, somewhere between the last ice age and known history. The map I am talking about as reference is the Hyborian age one, not the post cataclysm version.
i think the OPâs point was for a map that funcom would make in the future and set in the Hyborian Age, not a map of the future of the Hyborian Age.
i personally donât see funcom making a new map for conan. it would be cool if they did, but i wonât hold my breath. luckily funcom provides us with a powerful devkit to make new modded maps, and maps made by fan modders is the most you are likely to get.
i am not sure what ârealâ hyborian age location would make for a good play area. somewhere savage, mysterious, and unsettled. so that strikes out many of the named civilized areas in my book. what we have now is the exiled lands which could be anywhere or nowhere, depending on who you want to argue with; and siptah, an island that was in a pastiche story not written by howard and thus not a part of the original lore. so funcom has free reign with exiled lands cuz itâs just âsomewhereâ and not tied to a true lore location, and free reign with siptah cuz it was just a not-well-fleshed-out location from some âofficialâ fan fiction by sprague de camp and lin carter.
thus i think if funcom was to make a new map, it would follow the same logic and not be set in a specific nation or place. but i am just some dude on the internet, so what do i know?
Personally, I would like to see a dark dystopian world like Furiosa, with a reddish world, similar to the city without a name, with a lot of skulls and other things, I would like to immerse myself and feel that gloomy area.
I would love to see the original map as a age, or maybe even 2 or 3 ages.
They could create a map in parts like Valheim and Enshrouded does in their map building.
Start with the first part, and expand each chapter with new biomes (since the current maps reached the limits).
Just a thought
Btw I donât see why Germanic countries are represented in the Aquilonia parts on the top map representing Europe, kind of confusing sine Aquilonia is Southern. Its not important, just confusing to me.
