What is everyones thoughts on the New Construction System?

Yeah you’ve made that pretty clear, but your only argument for why it’s more realistic seems to be ‘because I say so’.

But see I think most people respect that you prefer the old system, just not these continued appeals to objective realism, immersion or hardcore (lol, srsly).

I dunno, I’m not seeing a lot of storage chests with finished pieces in them. Most seem to be building from raw materials - being mixed or assembled on-site:

And why would real life builders make 100 walls when they only need 15? The new system makes far more sense to me.

Are you sure about that? The majority of Funcoms employees have been released over the past several years.

Not a fan of the new build system in the slightest. Takes me twice as long to build bases with this bs qol change. I used to enjoy building as a way to relax, now it’s infuriating. Funcom could have at least given players the option to choose in server settings.

correct more structures are built on the spot. Very few people purchase preconstructed home kits. As a someone trained as a carpenter and mason by the U.S. Job Corps I know.

As a console user, I think the experience with the new building system is an overall improvement from what was in place previously. It is much easier to see what I can build, and what is required to build it.

There is a bit of a learning curve, and some aspects do fell a bit clunky, but other than that I think is good.

Personally I like the new construction system. Much more user friendly than scrolling through a long list. Negated crafting times for benches and building pieces and so much easier to find what you’re looking for.

So to devs , we’ll done, this new building system is great and thank you.

As an avid builder i love the new building mechanics the building menu being out of the way is great and the copy feature is amazing and being able to build and remove from a mile away is SO USEFUL!

I would like it if benches and placeables were able to put in your inventory instead of dismantling though. And I would love to be able to Free build without snapping, and some more building pieces like half walls and ceilings triangle foundys(not wedges) and maybe some round structures as well.

True now that tencent took over…who really knows what direction they will take this game?

@Blindedsmurf but honestly you do have the option to return benches to inventory which refunds all materials and can replace it instantly, only thing you need is the hammer so the actual bench not going to inventory is no big. I believe you’re even given the option to simply relocate the benches now without having to pick them up at all.

Your right you can pick it up and get the materials. But for example say you are building a back up base or helping out a new player with some starter benches, or just want some back up benches. instead of having to figure out all the different materials and amounts you need for the benches and filling up most of a box of different mats you can just have like a row of benches and a stack of boxes ready to go and be put down, and that way every tribe mate doesn’t need a building tool which will also lower the risk of people accidentally deleting something & messing up the base, I have clan mates I trust with putting boxes down but have learned they can’t be trusted with a construction hammer at all.

@Blindedsmurf yeah but it’s the grind to the top is important so if that player can’t craft his own T3 bench then maybe he just not ready for it yet :man_shrugging: I’m all for helping the little guys but in a game dominated by alt accounts who’s really a little guy anymore?

lol I see what your saying, but were still getting new players and I always try to help out the new guys, us experienced guys are getting t3 on day one and top tier weapons, some guys are still in sandstone and using iron or steel maces after the first week. sometimes people just get prim locked without a way out.

Cause real life rules decide they can’t place 100 walls anywhere and move them cost effective…

We on other hand in a video game world, can craft 100, place in storage and pull out what we need when we need it, cause Convince and QoL

Real Life can burn a in dumpster with its rule set of how things work…

This is a Video Game, I want certain aspects to work as such.

I’d rather ditch Hammer,
Keep a Work bench, with me or a Thrall at it.
tell it to Build This and This.

I then can open Build Menu, No hammer within a Set Range. And see a Visual Counter that I have 10 walls, 3 floors, 0 of that, 2 of that.
And Build as I please. If I click something I do not have, it’ll show what it need. And I have thrall make it. And it’ll be ready in a short bit.

Thats all I want.

I love it overall. As soon as it hit testlive I never looked back. I went back once to the pre-3.0 game and realised how clunky the old system was, and how cluttered my hotbar was. It’s far easier and faster to build and to correct mistakes (removing incorrectly placed walls from a distance for instance). Yeah you do have to be careful when in “delete” mode but I find delete mode more precise with things like removing a standing torch that’s in front of a wall. In the old system I would struggle to find the torch’s hitbox so often, it was frustrating. Never an issue now.

Specific things I would change:
Make Wheel of Pain and Greater Wheel of Pain at Torturer’s Bench so it’s a “permanent” inventory item that can be placed and picked up without converting from/to the raw mats. Make Lesser Wheel at Artisan’s or Carpenter’s (so it’s available very cheaply and before Torturer’s Bench is unlocked)
Make Fish Traps and Improved Fish Traps at Carpenter’s Bench and make them able to be picked up without converting to mats. As far as I know we still can’t make Improved Fish Traps because we can’t hold a normal fish trap in inventory (although I admit I have not tried since testlive, but I think people are still saying they can’t do it), and now that they’re made with Construction Hammer we need to have a normal fishtrap in inventory to make an Improved one - catch-22.
Make Map Room at Sorcery bench? Is that logical? It’s a pain filling so many inventory slots up in my horse with all the raw mats when I used to be able to carry a few ready-made maprooms and still have 9 slots left for food and other mats.

But apart from those suggestions, 11/10 - great job with that system, so much better now in every way. And I am not a new player, got 6000+ hours up now. I didn’t really see the need for a new system until I tried it. Now I would never go back.

So after some extensive use now with the new construction hammer. I’m even more not liking its implimentation. The following are my reasons.

  1. Before 3.0, On a roleplay server, I could quite make something and turn around and sell that building piece, let them place it down. This would be the case for any Mod that creates a building piece such as Age of Calamitous. Or something from another Mod and there are several of them. This is no longer possible.

  2. Unlock plus has made the ability for you to pick something up with a keybind and put it in the box. You can for that one day. Unfortunately the moment you log out and then log back in after a restart. Everything you pick up and put in the storage box has turned into a salvaged item, essentially back into this raw components. This is very much a very annoying thing for me, so much to the point that I HATE its release

  3. It’s very clear to me at this point that 3.0 has a message all to its self without even verbally saying it. 'We the developers of the game do not like modders. We do not want then changing the game anymore. " It honestly seems that way.

You have blocked every means of crafting into the hammer by default and that is the most ignorant decision to date.

ATLEAST make only vanilla building to be controlled by the hammer and not be controlling everything. LET US craft and STORE IT for later use. I don’t want to keep freaking building shit over and over and over again.
This Building grind/ crafting grind is honestly making me lose my interest to continue using this platform.

The only thing good that came out of 3.0 is their building system.

Stealing?

I can’t decide if you’re trolling or ignorant.

The reason I call it stealing is because it circumvents people having to purchase the corresponding DLC. Now to get those pieces the exploiters will have to buy the DLC’s for the content.

You could call it a thousand things. Some would be even right, in legal or technical terms. But “stealing” is not one of things.
