What is obelisk blocking now specifically, how will it be treated?

First of all, I want to say as disclaimer that I’m not one of those players who thinks it’s cool to block POIs, obelisks etc in a mad power grab and to be toxic. We have in the past, claimed around an ob closest to our base, and left gates open during times of peace, then shut during raid hours when an invader clan would come try to take over the server.

Under the new system, I’m wondering the specifics of how this will be treated, specifically admin dismantling.

I’m aware that you cannot connect pieces together surrounding an ob, in fact I tested this on Official PVP. I completely encircled an obelisk but left a path open, and it remained for two days. When I filled in the gap, it was deleted within half hour.

I’m assuming there’s some automatic detection going on here, so far so good.

What would happen if people build around obelisks, but not conpletely enclose them? What risk is there of still being admin deleted?

Let’s say we make a garrison around an ob with a clear path out, but use it as a deterrent against toxic clans of using it as a staging ground to raid? For example we could have thralls, animals, and spiked palisades etc to make it very dangerous to use.

Basically what I’m saying is, is there a CLEAR definition now of ob blocking or are such things come down to the random opinion of some hired tech/admin looking at the case?

Greetings,

Thanks for poking @sestus2009. The POI protection system is in place to prevent the obelisks from getting closed. Not completely enclosing or extending the area to enclose it is a circumvention of the system. The general idea is that no player should have ownership of a structure that exists for everyone to use. The same goes for recipes, other POI’s, journals, or any content that is meant to be part of the exploration of the map.

We hope to have clarified the matter. For more details or to discuss a specific case please submit a ticket on Zendesk.

Besides what the Right Honorable Mayra said, how about just not building anything within 500 meters of one. It’s selfish and immersion breaking. Likely not you but anyone doing this needs to rethink their game-play etiquette!

Agreed, even though in pvp it was at least an area that drove legitimate reasons to fight. I mean the crevice on CE is a partial obelisk because it saves about 10 mins of travel between 2 areas, but it remains a building zone. So ehhh.

It saves maybe 30 seconds to get around the crevice. It’s not like the shattered basin where it takes a few minutes to go around.

depends on where you are headed.

Question for you, @Caroll

The south jungle obelisk has panthers that can maul the crap out of you before you even load in. Is it still considered a circumvention if I build a small shack there to move the panthers off the obelisk?

Building something is one thing, blocking is another.
If you play on official servers you can place some fountains, elevators, dancer, maproom, etc.
Things that will help, protect and make happy other players of the server too. If it is pvec or pvp, try to place carefully your dancer so it won’t act as a panther to the others . Despawn a panther or two do not change the game experience so much, especially when you have a place to farm them in the map, to a spot which is unique and very difficult to ruin.
This is at least what I did all these years and I never accepted a simple complain.
If you play private… Ask the admin ofcurce :man_shrugging:.
I am sorry I am not @Caroll, but if you want to see this sweat existence my dear @Rekt visit the YouTube channel of Funcom for Conan exiles and watch the thank you exiles video. Me and her father share the same happiness, to have beautiful daughters.

I play officials on Xbox, and I’ll do just that. Set up a public map room (Since all the ones there currently are walled off with anticlimb. Jerks :stuck_out_tongue: ) and add a T1 dancer set to attack nothing. Might add a bar on an upper level or something. Ya’know, cuz us PVPers gotta have RP stuff too.

Put your dancer in stand guard command too. Try to place a pillar somewhere in the middle of the map room after you place it, sometimes it works, make this pillar 2x high and place a ceiling to enclose the dancer with walls and roof cap. The dancer will always send away corruption from others without unwanted behavior.

That sounds familiar.

Poor dancer though.

I mean that’s gotta be one of the worst gigs…

I’ll use stormglass windows. My dancers are always beautiful ladies, and it would be a shame to simply hide her in a wall. I’ll grab a male dancer too, so no one feels left out

I remember placing 2 dancers, not to feel lonely and always filled their inventory with food . @Rekt my favorite dancers were always gifted nordeimers, with melons :rofl::rofl:.

I’m still not happy on the whole vague aspect of this topic.
Remember we’re in a “report meta” now. Everyone on officials is resorting to reporting their way to victory, or to get rid of people they don’t like. Note: I’m not even addressing here the point of whether people getting reported do or don’t “deserve it”. Some do, others not at all. A whole clan of toxic ***es can report a good and peaceful clan simply to cause trouble, and, due to the vagueness of certain guidelines, may or may not lead to a result.

That’s kind of my overall point behind this thread. It just seems that things without official details, may or may not get you banned, even when you’re doing nothing wrong.

Don’t believe my good natured stance here? Think I have an alterior motive and I’m trying to justify malicious building? Sure, a perfect example:

Let’s say you DO build those nice fancy welcome centers, map rooms, public dancers, and even communal refresh stations near obelisks. You know, the stuff you find on friendly RP-ish officials. Believe it or not, I LIKE doing that stuff.

But with the vagueness of certain guidelines combined with people who spam reports just out of spite, my point is that it seems you could get all that nice stuff wiped merely at the whim of one support ticket staff vs another who, in that moment, decided “Eh… I think this is wipe worthy! It received 8 reports in a single night!”.

That just doesn’t feel right.

And while I’m not trying to recommend a personal favored alternative, compare this to let’s say (and others have mentioned things like this as well) a simple NO BUILD zone in an x-block radius around an ob. So that way, it’s clear cut, no confusion. Or simply say in wording in the guidelines, “Building is permitted near obelisks, as long as it doesn’t connect in any way shape or form” or “As long as is not guarded by thralls” or “As long as there is a safe passage away” etc. Or even have a no thrall place zone in the same radius, similar to how it says “Thralls cannot be placed here” in POI’s. That way you can build while knowing you’re not violating anything.

I know there’s going to be people here that still claim “Just use common sense and you should be fine”, and trust me, I’d love that to be the case. But I know from personal experience, and from friends, and we can all see the comments here, there are good people who do nothing wrong that get spam reported and wiped by whole clans, who try to rely on “strength in (report) numbers” to force it.

All I’m saying is, in the era of report abuse and actually good/peaceful builders getting screwed, try to make the wording as detailed as possible.

As a followup on my own stakes in this, I actually have been wanting to build this beautiful “Hanging Gardens” oasis near the sinkhole for a long time now, I even drafted it in single player. With dancers, public food and water, bone dragon elevator for everyone to use, etc. It’s a really gorgeous design and I’ve been saving mats for a while.

But now I’m scared to do it as if a hostile clan ever comes along and reports it as violating “Ownership of an ob” as the devs wrote about, I could lose countless mats in the blink of an eye.
