Do you have any ideas as to how this would work or get set up?
Honestly though, I don’t see the incentive for the Company to participate in this sort of activity.
The focus of the Company seems to be extracting as much revenue as possible from the Playerbase and not so much as providing engaging content the Playerbase is actually interested in, or addressing the concerns with current content.
But I’d set of a list prerequisites to sign up for the counsel, let the players vote on candidates, and see if funcom would be nice enough to help with a loading screen notice.
The people I’d like on it I doubt would want any part of it; for multiple reasons. But, my opinion funcom isn’t the one in the drivers seat, it’s funcom’s boss we need to have listening.
If this is the case, then Chapter 2 and 3 will likely be the last major updates and the game will be sunset. You’re never going to see a new map then. Better to take the devs off the game and onto a new one. New map will be a money sink with no guaranteed revitalization. Whether you think Siptah was done well or not, it served as the indicator of how new maps from FC fair. It was an utter failure. Even after the fixes.
Players are spending money now though.
This is why I don’t see the incentive for the Company to put any more effort into Conan Exiles.
The Council you suggest would not guarantee increased revenue, so I don’t see the Company seeing this as a worthwhile activity.
The less effort the Company has to put in, the higher their profit margin will be.
Also, the track record for responding to Player Feedback over the years has been spotty at best, so unless the Company was 100% behind a Player Council for Game Improvement, I dont see it accomplishing the things Players would really want.
Are they? I haven’t seen any sales figures so we really don’t know what % of players shop the bazaar; I know it’s less with every funcom bad decision, or how much is being spent.
I’d be whiling to bet your average player hasn’t spent a dime in the bazaar or bought more then the first battle pass.
@Taemien well then maybe they could do like a contest and let community enter their maps and then the winners map gets hosted on official for a trial run or something like that.
And what if, like on these forums, the players forming the council cannot agree about what they want? How many different versions of the game should Funcom make?
History shows that Funcom takes at least some of their development ideas from these very forums. Many, many nerfs are direct results of players whining about a feature being OP. On a positive side, we got things like horses because players kept asking for them.
And players, like all people, are mainly motivated by four factors: greed, laziness, selfishness and stupidity. It would take quite a lot of effort to find a reasonable number of players who can approach game development from an objective enough position to give good council, rather than promote their own favorite playstyle.
(Me, I’m motivated by laziness and greed, which is why I don’t want to work in game development, especially without pay.)
Name 3 other things in game we players asked for. Bet I can name a dozen we didn’t.
And I thought I was a pessimist.
I think you’ll find most players share opinions on the game. The rest can be worked out in committee.
Now I’m argumentative by nature. I’d argue with god if I thought she was wrong. But I also know what compromise means. A compromise means both sides are a little happy and a little disappointed.
Listening to the players doesn’t mean doing everything they want and only what they want. Game creators also have their own vision.
Looking at these forums, people have a nasty tendency to focus on the disappointments, to the point where they go out of their way to shout down any threads with a positive message. Terms such as “white knighting” get thrown around, but the way I see it, there are a lot more black knights on the forums.
People won’t be happy with compromises. As I listed above, selfishness is a major motivator.
Yup, and why we got the personal light no one asked for and a good number of players want to be able to turn off. I’m hoping funcom listens on this like they did when they first introed the autorelock on. I will thank them again for giving us an off switch for it.
Best you can hope for is to make the majority of players happy enough not to complain and keep playing.
None the less there are people on here that if funcom squatted down and they’d call it gold.
@Taemien why does it have to be a mod? I simply don’t understand that part. Are the official Exiled Lands and Siptah mods? If not then why can’t this new player generated map be like those?
I’m not talking about a modded EL or IoS, I’m talking about an all new map.
Who has a map that is willing to let Funcom do that?
Making a map isn’t the most simplest thing in the world. Its why the number of new maps on the Steam workshop can be counted on one hand, even if you add the ones that are simply Exiled Lands reskins.
But Deacon if you think its easy, lets see you make a map for Conan Exiles. The devkit is a free download. By all means, make your perfect map, and send it to FC. If its good enough they would have no choice right?
