Many thanks! Didn’t know all that.
I’ve been playing alone since day one, online but alone.
The Lore stones tell us a story about what happened before we arrived at the EL, also the books that are lying around everywhere, whether in EL or ToS and there are Lore stones there too.
You write your own story in Conan because you have to invent yourself in this sandbox game, but a story that is told is still there.
Single player games are simply a thing of the past, the game industry now puts more emphasis on producing multiplayer games.
(That is not to say that the focus would only be on multiplayer games)
This is partly due to the fact that it is always claimed that gamers have no social contacts and live like basement children.
(Something that is absolute crap)
They are working on at least one other game in the REH universe - hope it does / they do have a strong emphasis on RPG/story/single player.
Well said, by Mitra! And a gaming history about exactly the same age as mine. My first ever PC games were Sword of Fargoal and The Hobbit Both on tape cassette. I am gonna feel so nostalgic if anyone remembers either of those two gems.
My first PC game was Metal Gear Solid (8Bit).

First of all, thank you for this
I remember @Jimbo and @drachenfeles conversations about the lore and I was reading non stop and waiting for the reaction of the other!
Unfortunately @drachenfeles left the forum and @Jimbo mostly regrets his visits here, I believe! Another lore master that helped me a lot in the past is @Oduda. Some posts are lore based and they are so beautiful and educational! These people not only read a book or two but gave to much time and energy.
They don’t argue to show that they are better than anyone, they argue simply because they know the lore!
So thank you very much for this reaction, I really appreciate it, our negativity here only push them away, so I am very happy to see beautiful reactions like yours, thank you again .
Ha! You truly value this community! Guess this is one of the reasons why this forum is still this active after all these years. Anyway, Jimbo’s reply is very friendly and informative, so I had no chance but to admit my defeat due to my ignorance in Conan lore. And thank you stelagel, for helping me not feeling embarrassed.
Not sure why some one would buy Conan exiles expecting a single player linear game that feeds you a story when it was never advertised as such. Sorry but you set yourself up for disappointment.
Conan was always advertised as an open world survival builder MMO in the Conan world.
There are stories. They just aren’t fed to you by the game and NPCs in a linear fashion.
The OP is not suggesting this version be single player, but hopes that FC owning the IP would create a single player RPG where we are Conan. This Forun is so defemsive when it comes to posts about something different.
I played a Conan game on ps3 years ago that I enjoyed that was just single player action adventure. I don’t think it was very popular, but I liked it (it even had topless dancers in cages and stuff). I’d be all for it but I don’t know if the production costs would be worth it to them. I hope it would. That game was fun. Makes me want to fire up my ps3 and play it.
Witcher 3 was a blast. Cyberpunk was an utter flop BUT currently it’s a very good game. They fixed most of the problems. I played it a while ago and had a very good time, even if looters shooters aren’t exactly my genre. I would safely suggest it to anyone at this point.
I played that one way back when it came out. It was… not very good but it had it’s own appeal to a point. It honestly just felt rather generic and not really that much like a Conan game. I actually have the figure from that game, even though the person at the store gave it to me when I pre-ordered Age of Conan (the funcom game).
Oh it was generic sure. It released really close to ps3 release and was the reason I had to get my first flatscreen. Couldnt see conan from the couch…
Exactly… thank you.
I don’t think you understood the subject.
I think this was cancelled a while back, don’t rememeber when I read it, but it was after this date. The DUNE thing ended a lot of Funcom previous plans.
I really have to disagree on Funcom not caring what Conan is about. And I’m a player that never once went the multiplayer route.
I have my issues like everyone else, and I disagree a lot with decisions, but saying they don’t care and understand the work of Robert E. Howard is 100% untrue.
My TV set died Yesterday evening . Now I have to play on 32 inches until I get a new one
. I do remember an evolutionary game from ps1 Vagrant Story! It had Static drawings to explain the story, but it was one of the best games I ever played to my whole gaming history.
My take- the Exiles lands and even more so the Isle of Siptah are half real, half in the ‘Dreamlands’ of H.P. Lovecraft, a transition point between the two, much like the city of ‘Carcosa’.
In general reference to the thread however, I fully agree- I would LOVE a single player Conan game where we could make our own character to live and adventure in the Hyborian setting. I don’t want to play as Conan- but I want to make a Poitanian knight that inhabits that same world. If Age of Conan had been single player I would have just loved every second of it. As it is my enjoyment of that game is very much marred by some rather bad memories of some really rude people.
