While creating a new character on my Xbox Series X in single player I gave my new character the name Commander Nightfire Wolf.
As soon as I clicked on accept a window poped up saying “Nightfire can’t be used”, and yet with my other characters it let me use Nightwolf, Steelfire, Stormfire, Nightspire, and Starfire.
It’s already hard for a lot of players to come up with names for their characters so why restrict names that should not be restricted?
Even if I was to do a search for the blood and sand Assassin Armor in the admin search, it will pop up a window and say I can’t use the word Assassin in the search for the armor when that is what it’s under in the gear section.
Like Vahlok said. I think this is an issue with the input system used by Xbox blocking those names. As in they are blocked before Conan Exiles even sees it. The game will let you name pretty much anything you want that your input system allows.
Other games on Xbox have no issue using these words. Minecraft has censorship but it doesn’t block random words like “eyes.” Whatever wonky filters are in place is purely a Conan on Xbox thing, and I doubt there’s anything we as players could do about it. The developers on the other hand might be able to fix it by collaborating with Microsoft.
i ever wondered why “Luba the luscious“ (has clearly the appeareance of a woman) is labeled “Luba der Sinnliche“ in German. Now i know: “die“ (would be the correct female article for “sinnlich“, german has three for masculine, feminine, neuter) is banned on Conan XBox because of this game is totally not about death and dying… Die, Filter!
Not quite. I had a Hall of Fame base with Richard Butkus. Of course, Richard had his more widely known nickname, Rick with a D (Funcom’s forum will edit that out if used, as well as the beloved actor D ick van D yke. Note that this a perfectly respectable name to anyone not 13 years old). I found Mr. Butkus had reverted to Cimmerian Berserker one day, and when I attempted to change him back, it said it violated terms.
It’s not PS, it’s official servers. On a private server or solo game, anything goes. I have tested this.
I do find it odd that Titan without the ‘an’ is fine.
On XBox series (German) i can’t use D ick or T it or D ie even in singleplayer offline.
I can however name my sherpa “Dicker Cimmerischer Träger“ (means Fat Cimmerian).
It’s complete ridiculous, especially because at a quick check i don’t find any offensive german language to be blocked.
And i made a mistake in my other post, it’s not Luba the luscious, she has the correct translation of “Luba die Sinnliche“, it is “Hosth the Venomous“ who gets the gender swap in german.
Dare not question the one who rules the dictionary privilege of the one he / she censors the word they deem, naughty. Beware your playing with fire don’t question the dictionary god!!!
by yog, this truly is ridiculous. i am sorry console and official server players have to deal with this stuff.
i have no problem with a private company’s decision to engage in censorship of truly offensive words. players shouldn’t be able to name their characters with racial slurs or hatespeech, but what you folks are describing is absolutely ridiculous censorship. it’s like… a censorship bug? filter gone rogue?
ridiculous.
There was a long period I couldn’t use the word Raw and it drove me absolutely fvcking nuts. I don’t care if some moron is naming himself Rawdogslol420 just let me label my fridges.
Same with blood. Had a chest labeled Demon Bluut for years because blut and blood were blocked.
As someone said it’s a Microsoft issue, but it’s really goofy sometimes.
