Why can't I buy complete edition off steam for my friend?

I bought the complete edition yesterday off steam so I could play with my friend. So today I went to buy her the complete edition but there is no option to purchase it as a gift. The only option I have is to buy her the standard edition, which I assume as no dlc?

Does anyone know of a way around this?

I just went to the Steam Store to check, and I couldn’t select the option to give it as a gift either. I own the Argos DLC but none of the others. So I did a couple quick tests. I selected the full DLC bundle and couldn’t select the gift option from it either. But I was able to select the gift option for individual DLC’s. So at a glance, it looks like it won’t let you gift something you already own. But after that, I went to doublecheck and tried to buy a separate game that I did already own and was able to select the gift option. It’s strange.

Honestly, I have no idea if it’s an issue with the Steam Store or with Funcom, but it’s still a strange behavior.

@Spynosaur_Nicole Apologies for tagging you at random here, but I really have no idea who to tag for something like this. Do you know anything about this, or would it be possible to route through the proper channels to find out? Is this something that should be directed at the Steam Store rather than Funcom?

I would just send my friend the money.

Hey there,

Gifting is restricted (disabled) for the Complete and Deluxe Editions. I don’t know of an official statement on this topic.
I personally think the reason may be similar to this, as the bundle provides a discount.

It is possible to gift your friend a Steam Gift Card, however, as mentioned in the linked thread.

Steam has some trouble with gifting bundles in general. Bundles are priced based on the buyer’s existing collection (so as not to charge twice for the same item). I tried this during the weekend with Endless Space 2 and Civ 6, and neither of them let me buy a bundle product as a gift. And as discussed in the thread linked above, gifting some bundles could open up opportunities for cheating.

A gift card, as TheLOLxd2 suggests, should work.
