I play this game for hours and when I die or even shut down for the night, ALL of my inventory is gone. I have start over and over again. Why?

We need more information. What does the event log say? Where are you playing? server? SP?
The character stays in the game, It just “goes to sleep”
So if you’re on a server, and it’s PVP someone could rob you.
You should always log out somewhere safe, like inside a base.
Stats from gear stop working when you’re logged out, so if you’re in a area of extreme weather you could be dyeing from weather while off line.
If the game isn’t shutting down properly you could die of starvation or thirst.
It’s a good idea to always log out in a secure base and put all your gear in a chest.
Also on a server check the decay timer on your base, the numbers are hours you can be out of game before everything decays.
Check the event log and let us know the game mode, for a more accurate explanation.
Because you seem new, I’m also going to say, you need to hit “submit” for the event log to populate.
Oh, about losing stuff when you die, (not when logging out)
if you’re in single player there is a setting to keep everything.
On a server however you can’t change that setting.
Regardless of where you play when you die you’ll respawn either at a bed, bed roll or the desert.
There will be a map marker at the location you died, and you have 15 minutes to get back to your body and reclaim your items.

Thanks. I am in SP mode and am very new. Where can I change the setting in SP to keep everything? I didn’t know about returning to death marker to retrieve everything. Thanks and appreciate the quick response.
You might need to make yourself admin for the setting to change.

Settings / server settings / survival
look for “drop equipment on death” and choose the option you want.
