You are not wrong. It makes no sense for both maps to be identical. And in fact, the Isle of Siptah stood out more during Early Access.
Adding more areas to the map (Isle of Dawn and Isle of Dusk) was probably just an attempt to add the missing elements from Exile Lands so as not to change too much the core area of the island.
In other words, attempts were made to combine both concepts (make something unique but close to the original map). Personally, I am grateful that they have made such an attempt. Maybe they did change too much, since even I think the Exiled Lands map is better (a bit, but always).
@CodeMage, the question is, if the Isle of Siptah remained more unique (like Early Access), would you consider it better than the Exiled Lands map?
I play both equally. right now my personal private server is siptah. We will be on that all winter. Then we take a break. Iâll likely throw an exiled lands server up next spring / summer.
I like to imagine that I would consider it neither better nor worse, but different.
I know it sounds like a cop-out, but Iâm being honest. It wouldâve been nice to have that choice, to be able to say âtoday I feel like playing Siptahâ or âtoday I feel like playing Exiled Landsâ, because they scratch different itches.
Siptah had so many unique touches back when the loop was âVaults â Maelstrom â Surgeâ. For example, it offered some real in-game incentive for conflict in PVE-C, something that Exiled Lands doesnât have.
In Exiled Lands, if you attack another player on a PVE-C server, itâs because you can. Any reason beyond that is fabricated, for RP purposes. Now, donât take that as a jab against RP. I donât have anything against RP or RPers, but the fact is that RP is pretty much non-existent on official servers. As a corollary, if you attack someone on a PVE-C server, they tend to get upset, because itâs âunprovokedâ.
Siptah early access changed that. Vaults and surges offered valid reasons for conflict, because they presented players with something to compete for, to fight over.
Another thing that was unique and I liked a lot was the fact that you couldnât build anything permanent inside the Maelstrom. I loved it for a variety of reasons. It offered great ambiance: nothing says âhic sunt draconesâ like the complete absence of player-built stuff. Also, that was one big, important region of map in which I didnât have to worry about some schmuck paving over a bunch of spawns or walling off something. Yeah, sure, you can report people who do that, but I would rather spend my time playing, instead of on Zendesk.
Unfortunately, most of that originality was scrapped in favor of making Siptah more like Exiled Lands. And I think thatâs a shame. I donât want Siptah to be âExiled Lands 2.0â, and I certainly donât want Exiled Lands to be more like Siptah, either.
On the other hand, Iâm most likely in the minority, so thatâs okay
I just wish the server transfers worked differently, so I could travel between Exiled Lands and Siptah without losing all my stuff. For a guy like me, that would make Siptah worth trying out again.
He was responding to your claims that pvp, PvE, and role players were all unhappy with the game. You put yourself in a position where you were speaking for others, itâs not really fair to complain when someone else does the same
incorrect. He stated that all he knows are happy with everything, then after thinking, took it back. What takes my deepest respect! I say that neither PvP nor PvE are satisfied about the condition whats happening. And this is obvious cause of the many posts and reactions. I donât say I know xyz⊠who are all satisfied/dissatisfied about everything.
I speak for myself and give a reference to steam statistics, steam reviews and the obvious fact people like/dislike and tell about. But this is tedious. Trying to tell someone he lays in the dirt while he denies and wants to stay is senseless. Should he lay where he is. I saw this many times in my life and how it ends.
And that this is clear: I like the basic idea and program of Conan, it is fantastic. It is sure better than many other programs. It has so much potential. But unused potential is basically the same as no potential. And Funcom is beneath Paradox and Bethesda the laziest company I ever met.
He didnât take it back, he said he was sorry you misunderstood him and went into more detail about his thoughts.
Iâm not even sure exactly what you are arguing here? At least not in the context of this thread. This is a thread about how someone feels Siptah isnât as good a map as EL, not a thread about how FC is terrible and lazy and donât know what a sandbox game is or how to make one.
@Enapets
If you ever find the time I would beg you to give us your reasons, why (?) you didnât have the El experience in Siptah. A personal feedback.
What do you wish to change and why?
I donât say Siptah is bad, but I get some âemptyâ feelings, like @darthphysicist said very correctly.
I donât know if itâs because our hadits playing in El, but these habits was a great reason we loved the game, so I find them necessary in Siptah too.
Again, Siptah is different
Siptah is awesome.
I love it, butâŠ
Not as exile lands for this, this and this.
Or why not?
I love Siptah and itâs better than El for this, this and this.
Thank you for your contribution and understanding exile
@stelagel , I love Exiles Land mainly for the following reasons:
EL is not symmetrical unlike Siptah
All areas are different (different biomes)
Dungeons are really differents in EL
EL invites exploration unlike Siptah
There is no storm that eats half the map
There are caverns to explore on EL
The only thing that I find interesting about Siptah is the extension which has added small islands to the south (but itâs too small in area) and villages of NPC.
Most i hate Siptah because of Maelstorm. Not becouse dangers-its good place to leveling thralls .I hate because now that cover all map. Before release Maelstorm wos just in center. All other areas you have sunny weather. Now when he start-all map go to dark. All time run with torch is not funny. And that noiseâŠ
Siptah is harder difficulty for many things. Some are too hard. For instance I had to go to a level 50 Vitality build for a while just to tank the extra damage.
In the Exiled Lands there are many interesting ruins to build in. In Siptah I have never found even one. Itâs as though build-able ruins were specifically removed from the map. Sure there are some trivial small ruins with very few defensive aspects, but nothing you would build in if you had any other choice. And generally any where you would build a base in Siptah is very exposed on all sides. In PvP that just becomes too much work. In PvE-C I like to build extensions onto existing ruins and have the two merge into one. I do like the big trees in Siptah. Up top they have their own environment.
So, Siptah lacks the great ruins for building that Exiled Lands has in abundance and that is the big difference for me. It means when I get to Siptah my actions are limited to a much shorter duration before I am done and move on.
MY big question, ( and BTW, if stelagel said night was day I would like his post, he is just that adorable ) Is the correct syntax âExiled lands IS betterâ or âExiled lands ARE betterâ ? asking for an â â â â retentive friend.
For what itâs worth - âExiled Lands is betterâ is the correct format - while Exiled Lands appears as a plural, there is only one thing called âthe Exiled Landsâ that is being discussed, and so it is singular. (Same thing applies to a company - eg Funcom is singular).
I donât know if I am correct to the spelling here. âISâ better going to the gaming feeling that I gained playing both maps.
Playing both maps I gained different things but the excitement on exile lands was bigger. Playing exile lands I felt more rewarded even if Siptah is giving you treasures in every single camp. The âgainâ in Siptah is only materials or rare items that you would need months to grind in exile lands in some cases. This however, this plurality of farming cannot be compared with the knowledge reward you gain in exile lands. I know that I can take items, all the items by farming easily all the island. But my habit in this game is first posses knowledge so I can fix whatever I want, whenever I want, wherever I want. So gaining knowledge sooo slow, by rng, is a bit wrong for me, especially to points that effect the gaming sequence.
I would love some basic recipes to be out of rng area in Siptah, I believe itâs necessity.
You do not have to sell me on Exile lands being better, I played IOS for about a month and quit. Going thru Funcomâs EA trial and error once was enough for me. I will not play guinea pig for them again.
The IOS graphics were amazing, and I built in the redwood forest by a waterfall, but everything else was a bug fest.
Yes thatâs exactly it, I also find the EL map more exciting. In addition on EL there is a certain logic to the progression of the equipment, we do not find weapons and armor as easily as on IOS. But again, I think Siptah isnât for players who want to explore (these two maps donât have the same audience).
Itâs why I hope Funcom will make a new map like Exiles Land
You have to know how to share . I think the two are compatible : having a new map for exploration and continuing to improve IOS (besides I donât understand why Funcom has abandoned EL since the release of Siptah, especially when you see the number of players who are still on EL ).
I think itâs possible for Funcom to extend IOS and work on a new map (otherwise players like me will never come back ).
What country are you in? Iâm in Japan and playing on a Chinese official IOS server (PvE). There are about 30 or 40 people on that server (typically 10 to 15 at any given time) and when someone does a surge they usually announce it in chat. I sometimes go to watch. No one takes anything without asking. They often help the guy doing the surge if he needs. If the guy doing the surge doesnât need the thralls that come he will often give them away or whatever.
It sounds to me like there are a few bad eggs on your server.
I like both maps fine. Of course there are differences but I only see them as differences mostly. I like some of the new characters in IOS. So funnyâŠ
