This will be long.
First, let me preface by stating that I don’t care what you feel. I have spent thousands of hours playing and testing this game for over 5 years. I, and several friends, spent an entire weekend testing a problem that was reported on this forum. We posted our findings on a thread. Did anyone bother to comment and add to it? No. We got “But, But…Wahhh”.
Currently, I play exclusively PvE. I used to play PvP, but that particular segment of the game, in my experience, is 95% babies who whine and cry because the game was changed from that one particular thing they liked to do, or because something was added that made their style less optimal, or simply because they actually are not very good at this game.
I play on officials. The reason is simple. Anything I have, I earned. I don’t have the Admin password to spawn in anything.
I play on console. No, I have no desire to play PC and take advantage of mods. See my second paragraph. I also don’t have to deal with hackers, so…advantage.
I am going to do something I don’t like. It will undoubtedly cause many to scream and “But, But…”. Which leads me to an old saying - “When you throw a brick into a pack of dogs, the one that yelps the loudest is the one that got hit.” There are people on this forum who have nothing positive to say, ever. I will not single anyone out. You know who they are.
This is just a small sampling of the forums and what has happened in the game. I am not in any way suggesting that this is ‘the what or why’ things happened. I am pointing out the complaints in the forum and how they coincide with changes. I am not saying mistakes have not been made.
What I am asking is, simply, can you take a joke?
Here’s where we stand, and keep in mind, my first day of play was July 4, 2018.
PvE/PvE-C – Some of these players are building giant bases, and we keep crashing in their area.
Offending players – This is my area. Stay out.
Funcom – We are introducing rules for land claim and other obnoxious building issues.
Offending Players – But, but…your trailers show people building cities.
Funcom – You ever hear of Single Player Mode, or Private Servers?
Offending Players – But, but…I like for people to see my builds.
Everyone Else – Youtube.
Player 1 – Player 2’s purge killed my thralls.
Player 2 – You built right on top of me. I don’t control the purge.
Player 1 – I’m going to build more stuff around you and stop it.
Player 2 – My purge meter is full.
Player 1 - Player 2’s purge broke my stuff. I am reporting him.
Funcom – I know you reported him, but I see you’ve surrounded Player 2 with land claim. You’re banned for a couple of weeks, and this trash is going to be destroyed.
Player 1 – But, but,…he started it.
Players – We want horses
Funcom – We are going to introduce horses, and a thrall limit
PvP – But, but…we use the thralls for base defense
Funcom – OK, we are going to introduce a leveling system for the thralls. Fewer, more powerful thralls.
PvP – But, but…thralls are too powerful. I get one shot by a Lian with a Sword of Crom.
Funcom – We are introducing a new leveling system, and adding grit to the mix. Also, the thralls are getting an HP nerf. We want you to the be hero of your story.
PvP – OK, but now thralls need babysitting because they die more easily.
Funcom – How about this? We cut the breaking time down to 15 minutes in some cases. If they die, you can get a new one in a half hour. Also, we are going to cut down the HP of almost every boss and creature in the game, so your thralls have a fighting chance. Of course, what this means is we’ve basically made the players stronger while the thralls and enemies are relatively as equal as they were before the nerf.
PvP – But, but…Thralls are too weak. Buff the thralls.
Funcom – What exactly is it you want?
PvP – Lifeblood Spear is OP. In a fight they back off and heal too fast. We can’t kill them.
Funcom – Here’s a nerf.
PvP – Yay
Everyone else – What’s the point of Lifeblood now?
PvP – Ambrosia and Yog Meat are too powerful. In a fight they back off and heal too fast. We can’t kill them.
Funcom – Here’s a nerf.
PvP – Yay
Everyone else – What’s the point of Ambrosia and Yog Blood now?
PvP – Funcom only cares about PvE. They don’t do anything for PvP.
PvE – Check out this Siege Hammer I found. What does it do? It destroys player buildings in PvP.
PvP – Siege hammer is OP.
Funcom – It’s now the Rage Hammer. It gives a buff when you are below 50% health.
PvE and PvP – Drop it on the ground.
PvP – Funcom only cares about PvE. They don’t do anything for PvP.
PvE – Did you build the Trebuchet? Why? It’s a Journey step. No other reason.
Funcom – With Chapter 3, PvE has a reason to build a trebuchet.
PvP – Funcom only cares about PvE. They don’t do anything for PvP.
Players – I wish we could repair Legendary weapons. I give them to thralls, but I’d like to use them myself.
Funcom – Here are Legendary repair kits. Just for good measure, here’s a dismantling bench for if you break them.
Players – Great. You know, the Legendary weapons don’t do as much as some crafted weapons.
Funcom – OK, we are re-working the Legendaries, making them more desirable. Also, you can only get them from completing dungeons. And, since they are so good, no more repairing them.
Newer Players – Why can’t we repair Legendary weapons anymore?
(This is from an active thread RIGHT NOW)
PC – Combat has changed. I actually have to turn and attack now. I can’t just look and turn automatically.
Console – Yeah, that’s how we’ve always played. If we press forward while attacking, we can turn when we look. Does that work for you?
PC – (Ignores question) Combat has changed. I actually have to turn and attack now. I can’t just look and turn automatically.
Maybe I will add more stuff. There’s plenty to choose from here. Whatever happens, I look forward to the regulars who will prove my points.
